Impaired Driver

Last night at approximately 9:30 pm, the accused a 47 year old Pain Court man was observed driving a white GMC Sierra westbound on Edgar Street in Chatham. A witness believed that the accused was operating the vehicle while impaired and called police. Police subsequently attended for investigative purposes.

Police stopped the vehicle in question in a parking lot located on Queen Street. The investigating officer noticed that the accused slurred his speech while he spoke, and also detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

As a result, the officer formed the opinion that the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and arrested the accused for impaired driving. He was later transported to Police headquarters where he provided samples of his breath which were over double the legal limit. He was then charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and with over 80 mgs.
