Cyclist Charged Following Collision in Chatham

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police investigated a collision between a motor vehicle and cyclist on Emma Street in Chatham.

No one was injured. The 19-year-old female cyclist was charged with the by-law offence of riding her bicycle on the sidewalk.

The Chatham-Kent police would like to remind cyclists that the Ontario Highway Traffic Act defines bicycles as vehicles that belong on the road. Riding on the road means riding with other traffic. This is only safe when all motorists use the same rules of the road.

With the warm weather upon us, motorists will see an increase in cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. Please slow down and share the roadway with all road users. Let’s make this a safe summer for everyone.
