Occurrence #: BA14022326 and BA14022473
Date: Sunday, May 18, 2014 – 12:20pm
Over the last two days, the Barrie Police have received two separate calls for parents leaving their young children unattended in vehicles while they shop inside a store. Yesterday afternoon, police attended a north-end grocery store after a complaint was received that a 4 year old child was left in a vehicle. Today, police received another complaint that a 3 year old and infant were left inside a vehicle as the parent shopped inside a south-end box store. The witnesses reported the children were left for short durations in both incidents. The involved parents were cautioned for their actions and the Children’s Aid Society was contacted to follow-up with the parents. Police would like to remind everyone that aside from the obvious hazards such as climate, predators and the potential of a lost child in a busy parking lot, that often the argument with citizens once the parent returns can be very upsetting to the children.
