Saturday, May 31,2014 at approximately 10:19 a.m., a 36 year old Kitchener resident was walking her dog in front of her apartment on Sydney Street South, Kitchener. Another dog that was unleashed in an nearby unfenced backyard ran from its owner after the woman’s dog. The woman tried to stop the attack on her smaller dog and was bitten in the right hand and left thigh resulting in puncture wounds and scratches. Several witnesses observed the attack. The Humane Society along with Police met with attacking dog’s owner. Police learned that the dog had not had any vaccinations and was deemed to be a dangerous animal. The owner was unwilling to pay for the associated costs and chose to turn her dog over to the Humane Society. The breed of the dog has yet to be confirmed but the owner advised she believed her dog was an American Bulldog / Sharpie cross. The dog is being quarantined for a 10 day period at the KW Humane Society. The female victim and her dog suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack and were treated.
