Wellington Weekly Update

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On February 26, 2024, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Sideroad 10, Erin. It was reported that the driver of a blue hatchback was possibly impaired. As a result of the investigation, Jennifer Madeline McMURRAY, 52-years-old from Erin, has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on March 22, 2024.

On February 27, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a blue sedan on Main Street West, Palmerston. As a result of the investigation, Dallas Avery MIDDLETON, 28-years-old of Palmerston, has been charged with Operation while Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code. Further, the driver was also charged with Possession of a Scheduled I Substance – Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, on March 22, 2024.

On February 28, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP stopped the driver of a grey pickup truck on Wellington Road 109, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old driver from Paisley, has been charged with Driving while Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (C.M.V.) inspection of a black pickup truck and trailer on Elora Street South Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old driver from Cargill, and a Cargill business face numerous C.M.V. charges including Insecure Load, Improper Means of Attachment, Overweight Vehicle, and Improper Breaks on Trailer, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A total of 11 offences were identified.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a member of the Wellington County OPP conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (C.M.V.) inspection of a black pickup truck and trailer on Wellington Road 21, Elora. As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old driver from Dunnville, and a Beamsville business face numerous C.M.V. charges including Draw Trailer No Plate, Fail to Surrender Completed Daily Inspection Report, Overweight Vehicle, and Permit Peron with Improper Licence to Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. A total of 13 offences were identified.

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Erb Street, Elora. It was reported that a purple sedan was in the ditch. As a result of the investigation, Mary Neetta MORIARITY, 65-years-old of Wellington North, was charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 22, 2024.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired – B.A.C. 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.

West Grey Police Weekly Update

On March 24, 2024 West Grey Police officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Elmwood.  The investigation resulted in charges of Mischief being laid against a 50 year old male resident of West Grey.  He was released on conditions and will appear in court in April to answer to the charge.

On March 25, 2024 a West Grey officer on patrol observed a party who had outstanding arrest warrants from another service.  A 45 year old female was arrested and transported to the service that held the warrant.

On March 25, 2024 a West Grey officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on Grey Road 3.  The  18 year old driver of the motor vehicle was charged under the Highway Traffic Act and The Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.  His vehicle was towed from the scene and he will attend court in April to answer to the charges.

On March 26th West Grey officers entered into two separate stolen vehicle investigations.  One vehicle was recovered and a suspect was identified in that occurrence.  A warrant has been sought charging a 39 year old male from Hanover with numerous Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences.  The individual is currently in custody on charges from another police service. In the  other investigation both a truck and trailer were stolen.  The trailer was recovered but the truck, a 2008 GMC Sierra is outstanding as of press time.  Investigation into whether the tow incidents are related is on going.  If you have any information about this please call West Grey Police at 519-371-6911 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

West Grey Police Weekly Update

On March 15th West Grey Police officers attended an address in West Grey to execute a search warrant after receiving information that a stolen trailer might be on the property.

The stolen trailer  and an additional stolen trailers were located on the property .  The property owner was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property and will appear in court in April to answer to the charges. This investigation is ongoing.

On March 19th a West Grey business owner reported the theft of a truck from his business lot sometime overnight.  Hanover police officers located the stolen vehicle in Hanover.  The investigation into the original theft is ongoing.

Two individuals were arrested on warrants for failing to attend court this past week.  Both were released with new court dates.

The West Grey Police administration office will be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday.  Please travel safely on our roads this coming holiday weekend.

West Grey Police Weekly Update: 05Mar2024-12Mar 2024

On March  6TH 2024 after an investigation by uniform and the Criminal Investigations Unit, West Grey officers charged a 39 year old male from Durham with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of assault.  The charges stem from an incident in Durham on January 19, 2024.

The charged individual was released on conditions and will appear in court in April to answer to the charges.

On March 7, 2024 officers were called to a property on Concession 2 WGR where the property owner confronted two people cutting trees on private property.  The property owner declined to press criminal charges but the two individuals were charged under the  Trespass to Property Act.

On March 10, 2024 officers were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a building in Ayton.  Responding officers were able to locate and arrest three parties.  A 52 year old male from Hanover, a 32 year old female from West Grey and a 33 year old female of no fixed address were arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering to commit an indictable offence.  All three were later released with conditions and will appear in court in April to answer to the charges.

On March 11, 2024 officers were conducting a RIDE check at Concession 2 WGR and Concession 12.  A 35 year old male driver from Clifford was stopped in the RIDE check and was subsequently arrested and charged with Impaired Operation over 80.  The vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and will appear in court at the end of March to answer to the charge.

With the early spring weather officers are noticing an increase in speeders on area roads and a number of people have been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with speeding offences.  Please slow down and enjoy the sunshine!

Wellington OPP Weekly Update

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has consolidated and streamlined notable traffic offences with a single release.

On February 21, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Paisley Road, Guelph. At approximately 7:30 a.m., the driver of a black sedan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old driver from Waterloo, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Further the driver was also charged with Failing to Surrender License and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Validation on Plate, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 21, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Elora. At approximately 7:45 p.m., the driver of a grey Sport Utility Vehicle was observed traveling well above the posted 50km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old driver from east York, was charged with Drive  Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed and Driver – Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 22, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Toronto Street, Palmerston. At approximately 12:30 a.m., the driver of a black sedan was observed travelling well above the posted 50 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old driver from Kitchener, was charged with Driver Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 22, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Pilkington. At approximately 1:30 a.m., the driver of a grey sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old driver from Cambridge, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Performed Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 22, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was morning traffic on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. At approximately 4:45 p.m., the driver of a white sedan was observed traveling well above the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of investigation, a 42-year-old driver from Toronto, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 24, 2024, a member of the West Region Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement Team was monitoring traffic on Highway 9, Minto. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the driver of a red minivan was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old driver from Stoney Creek, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Further, the driver was also charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – No License and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offence court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

On February 24, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was morning traffic on Wellington Road 124, Erin. At approximately 8:45 p.m., the driver of a grey sport utility vehicle was observed driving erratically. As a result of the investigation, Michelle Gwen KEEPING, 41-years-old of Scarborough, was charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on March 12, 2024.

On February 25, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on South River Road, Elora. At approximately 1:30 a.m., the driver of a black sport utility vehicle was observed traveling above the posted 60 km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation, Dylan James Joseph BROWN ERLENDSON, 33-years-old of Elora, has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. Further the driver was also charged with Speeding, Failing to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle and Littering on Highway, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, on March 12, 2024.

On February 25, 2024, a member of the Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Charles Street West, Wellington North. At approximately 4:30 p.m., the driver of a white sport utility vehicle was stopped. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old vehicle owner from Arthur, was charged with Permit Motor Vehicle to be Operated Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court – Guelph, on June 5, 2024.

West Grey Police Weekly Update

On February 21, 2024  West Grey Police were advised of a vehicle in the ditch on Grey Rd 4 between Durham and Hanover.

Officers attended and located a 37 year old male who admitted to being the driver of the ditched vehicle.  Officers could smell alcohol on the subject’s breath and  when requested to provide a breath sample into the roadside screening device the subject refused.  The subject was subsequently charged with failing to comply with the demand as well as operating a vehicle without insurance and driving while under suspension.

The vehicle was towed and the accused was released and will appear in court at a future date.

On February 24, 2024 West Grey officers were advised that a 42 year old male who was currently on domestic violence related charges had breached conditions of his release.  A warrant was issued for his arrest.  On March 3, 2024 he was located in Hanover after committing offences there and the warrant for his arrest was executed.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing and remains in custody at press time.

On March 5, 2024 West Grey Police officers received a report about physical threats made against a tenant by her landlord.  The landlord is currently on a conditional sentence order for other offences as well.  A 47 year old male from West Grey was arrested and charged with Utter Threats and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous person and it is also alleged that he has breached his conditional sentence order.  He was held for bail.
