On the 3rd of June, 2014 uniform officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team and Detectives, were engaged in the search for a Kitchener male in the Southdale neighbourhood of Kitchener. The male was armed with a knife and made efforts to flee pursuing officers. The male was arrested at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the area of Ottawa Street and Kehl Street, Kitchener. The male has been charged with Weapons Dangerous and Mischief under $5000. Investigators with the Crime Management Team continue to investigate a series of residential break and enters in the area. On June 3rd 2014 at approximately 9:30 pm police responded to a report of a male waving around a large knife on Old Chicopee Drive in the city of Kitchener. The male was waving around a machete-like knife, and allegedly threatening and intimidating a party known to him. A 26 year old male was arrested and held for showcause hearing. The criminal charges are Weapons Dangerous, Intimidation, Criminal Harassment and Breach of Probation. There were no injuries.

At approximately 6:45 am, on Tuesday the 3rd of June 2014, police responded to a single vehicle roll over on Arthur Street, south of Sawmill Road, in Woolwich Township. The vehicle was travelling north when the driver, a 19 year old Kitchener woman, lost control and slid into the ditch on the east side of the road. The vehicle rolled a number of times. The driver and lone occupant, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending.

On June 2, 2014 at approximately 9:30p.m. a robbery occurred at a variety store on Elgin St. in the city of Cambridge. A lone male dressed in a blue shirt and black pants with a covered face entered the store. The male approached the clerk and presented a knife. The suspect then stole cash and fled on foot. No one was injured in this incident. The parties are known to one another. On Monday, June 02, 2014 at 2:36am police received a call to attend the Cambridge Centre Mall located at 355 Hespeler Road, Cambridge in regard to a grease theft. At 2:38am police located a commercial motor vehicle seen earlier and two male suspects. A 40 year old Burlington man and a 44 year old Stoney Creek man were subsequently arrested for theft under $5,000 & possession of stolen property under $5,000. The vehicle was seized by police. The accused parties were later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Saturday, May 31,2014 at approximately 10:19 a.m., a 36 year old Kitchener resident was walking her dog in front of her apartment on Sydney Street South, Kitchener. Another dog that was unleashed in an nearby unfenced backyard ran from its owner after the woman’s dog. The woman tried to stop the attack on her smaller dog and was bitten in the right hand and left thigh resulting in puncture wounds and scratches. Several witnesses observed the attack. The Humane Society along with Police met with attacking dog’s owner. Police learned that the dog had not had any vaccinations and was deemed to be a dangerous animal. The owner was unwilling to pay for the associated costs and chose to turn her dog over to the Humane Society. The breed of the dog has yet to be confirmed but the owner advised she believed her dog was an American Bulldog / Sharpie cross. The dog is being quarantined for a 10 day period at the KW Humane Society. The female victim and her dog suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack and were treated.

On June 2nd, 2014 at 1:29 a.m., police responded to an alarm call at the Alpine Hyundai dealership located at 44 Alpine Road in the City of Kitchener. Upon arrival police discovered that entrance to the building had been gained by smashing a glass door pane. No property of value was taken from the business but there was approximately $1,500 in damage. Waterloo Regional Police request the assistance of the public in identifying a vehicle and driver who struck a cyclist shortly before 9am on Saturday May 31, 2014. The hit and run collision occurred on Park Street at Union Boulevard in Waterloo. The cyclist was eastbound on Park Street approaching the intersection with a green light when the vehicle passed her and turned right onto Union Boulevard, striking the cyclist and knocking her to the ground. The driver then took off on Union Boulevard towards King Street South. The cyclist, a 26 year old Kitchener woman, suffered minor injuries and her bicycle was damaged. The motor vehicle was described as a small SUV, white with a roof rack, similar to a Mazda CX-5. It may have damage to the rear passenger side. On May 29, 2014 officers from the Waterloo Regional Police Drug Branch arrested a 40 year old Cambridge male and an 18 year old Cambridge female in connection to an ongoing investigation into activity involving illegal drugs. As a result of the investigation a CDSA search warrant was executed on Birch Street in the city of Cambridge. During the search of the residence, Canadian currency, and cannabis marihuana were seized. Both parties were released on Promise to Appear notices. The male and female were charged jointly with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana. The male was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (2 Counts) and Possession of Property obtained by Crime (2 Counts).

On May 28, 2014, just before 4pm, Waterloo Regional Police arrested two males on Regina St North in Waterloo as part of an ongoing Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation. Police seized methamphetamine, prescription drugs and stolen property. A 28 year old Kitchener male was held in custody and is facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X 2, Possession of Stolen Property X 6, Breach Recognizance, Breach of Probation. On May 27th 2014 at approximately 8:19am Police responded to the Scotiabank at 544 Hespeler Rd in Cambridge Ontario for an attempted robbery. A customer who was leaving the bank was approached by a male who grabbed her and demanded money. The victim refused and was able to safely leave the area. The suspect fled and was later arrested by police. A 23 year old Cambridge male is held in custody, pending a bail hearing for the offences of attempted robbery, possession of a controlled substance and breaching his probation order.

On Tuesday May 27, 2014 at 2:20 pm an 89 year old resident lost control of his vehicle in the underground parking lot at 435 Wilson Avenue in Kitchener. As a result he sustained fatal injuries. The underground parking garage was closed for about 6 hours while Police investigated. Police are still attempting to contact the man’s family. On Tuesday May 27th, 2014 at approximately 101pm, a motor vehicle collision occurred on Beverly Street in the city of Cambridge. The collision involved a motorcycle and a Waterloo Regional Police Service cruiser both travelling south on Beverly Street. The police vehicle was driving to an emergency situation with emergency lights and siren activated. As the police vehicle pulled out to overtake the motorcycle, the motorcycle operator started to turn left into a parking lot. The officer in the police vehicle turned out to the left and was able to avoid contact with the motorcylce. The motorcycle tipped over onto its left side. The driver of the motorcycle was not injured. The 21 year old male driver of the motorcycle from Atwood was charged with turn not in safety contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
