On Sunday June 22, 2014 at approximately 7pm a 51 year old man was riding his motorcycle southbound on Water Street North in the city of Cambridge. The man drove over a manhole, lost control and crashed. His head struck the pavement. The man was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and later transported to a trauma center outside the region. The investigation is ongoing. DANGEROUS CONDITION

On Friday June 20 2014 at 8:44 a.m. Waterloo Regional Police received a call from the Kitchener Fire Department regarding an ammonia leak at 235 Ardelt Avenue in an industrial cooler. The building was evacuated as a precaution, the leak was small and contained to the building. There were no injuries as a result of this incident. The Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Environment were notified.

DANGEROUS CONDITION

On Thursday June 19, 2014 at approximately 8:49am an excavator was digging a trench for a City of Cambridge waterline at the corner of Lowther Street and Moore Street. A natural gas line was punctured and began to leak. Cambridge Fire and the Waterloo Regional Police Service responded and evacuated nearby houses as a precaution. The leak was sealed and residents were allowed back to their houses. There were no injuries and no further safety concerns at this time.

ASSAULT

On Wednesday June 18th 2014 at approximately 5:40 p.m. a 22 year old Kitchener male was assaulted by three unknown suspects in the area of Joseph and Queen Streets in the city of Kitchener. During the altercation the victim was struck in the side of the face resulting in an injury. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Police do not believe this to be a random attack. Waterloo Regional Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals involved in this occurrence. On June 18, 2014, just before 10pm, Waterloo Regional Police arrested a 43 year old Cambridge male in connection to an investigation into commercial property break and enters in the city of Cambridge. The male has been charged with three counts of break, enter and committ, breach of probation and trafficking in stolen goods and held for show cause. Property taken from the break and enters was recovered and the investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 3:19pm Waterloo Regional Police and Kitchener Fire reponded to 50 Ottawa St South Kitchener in regard to a fire. The building was evacuated and nearby streets were closed. The fire was extinguished quickly and was found to be confined to a small space. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical and not suspicious in nature. There was little damage caused by the fire and no businesses inside the building are believed to be affected.

WORKPLACE ACCIDENT

On June 16, 2014 at 1:45 p.m. Waterloo Regional Police and the Ministry of Labour responded to a work place accident at a construction site located Fountain Street and Highway 401 in the City of Cambridge. Two employees were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the boom truck they were operating came in contact with a live overhead power line. One employee sustained electrical shock injuries that required treatment at the hospital. The other employee was taken to hospital as a precaution. The scene was held by police until an inspector from the Ministry of Labour responded. Police have concluded their investigation. Any further investigation will be conducted by the Ministry of Labour

SEX OFFENCE

On June 16, 2014 Waterloo Regional Police arrested a 60 year old male in the Donnenwerth Drive vicinity of Kitchener for three counts of sexual assault. The charges were the result of an ongoing investigation that began following a complaint thaton June 13, 2014, a male had approached a female walking in the area and touched her inappropriately. During the investigation, other victims came forward and identified the male as being responsible for sexual assaults against them as well dating back to the spring of 2012. SEARCH WARRANT

In the early morning hours of June 17, 2014, members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a Kitchener home. One adult male and two adult females, all Kitchener residents, were arrested in connection with the search. One of the females was released unconditionally, but the male and female residents of the home were remanded in police custody. They are scheduled to attend a show cause hearing on June 17, 2014 to answer to numerous drug-related charges. A large quantity of crystal methamphetamine and Canadian currency was seized by police during the investigation.

WORKPLACE ACCIDENT

On the 13th of June 2014 over the noon hour, a carbon monoxide leak occurred at a business at1326 Victoria St N in the City of Kitchener. Twenty one employees were taken to hospital for treatment. All employees received treatment and were released from hospital or listed in stable condition. The Ministry of Labor and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority were contacted and attended the scene.

At approximately 7:10pm on the 13th of June 2014, a concerned motorist called Waterloo Regional Police to report a black Jeep Grand Cherokee swerving into oncoming traffic and driving off the road on Erb Street near FischerHallman Road, Kitchener. Police responded to the area while the complainant followed from a safe distance. The Jeep left the roadway on Erb Street near Weber Street North in Waterloo, running over two signs and then rear-ending a Toyota Highlander. The Toyota was waiting at the red light at Erb and Weber when it was hit from behind and pushed across the intersection. The Jeep came to rest on the northeast corner of the intersection. The Jeep driver, a 53 year old Kitchener male, was taken to hospital and treated for a medical condition that is suspected to have caused the erratic driving and the collision. The occupants of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics. The intersection of Erb Street East and Weber Street North in Waterloo was closed for approximately 2 hours while Police investigated. No charges are expected to be laid against the Jeep driver, however Police will be submitting a drivers license review to the Ministry of Transportation for their review.

SUSPECT APPREHENSION PURSUIT

On June 14, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m. police were involved in a brief suspect apprehension pursuit with a blue 2006 Pontiac Pursuit in the area of Kinzie and Thaler Avenue in Kitchener. The pursuit was discontinued out of concern for public safety. The vehicle was eventually located unoccupied in a nearby residential parking lot. The identity of the driver remains unknown, and police are asking for assistance from anyone that might have seen the incident taking place and can help identify the driver of the motor vehicle.

IMPAIRED DRIVER

On June 14th, 2014 at 7:09am, emergency services responded to the intersection of Queens Blvd and Highland Rd in Kitchener in response to a motor vehicle collision. A northbound Mazda M6S on Queens Blvd collided with an eastbound Dodge Caravan on Highland Rd. Both vehicles were heavily damaged. The occupants of the the van were transported to Grand River Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda had minor injuries. A 21 year old Kitchener man was arrested and charged with,Operation with over 80mg, Impaired driving cause Bodily Harm and Dangerous Drive cause Bodily Harm. He will be appearing in court on June 26, 2104.
