At 8:22am on May 6, 2014, emergency crews were called to 199 Lorne Ave in Kitchener in response to a house fire. The house was not occupied at the time of the fire, and is owned by a Kitchener resident. Police arrived on scene first and were able to ascertain that nobody was inside, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is undetermined and the investigation is continuing by the Kitchener Fire Department.

On May 05, 2014 at approximately 3:15 p.m. the Waterloo Regional Police Service and the Waterloo Fire Department responded to a fire at 500 Parkside Drive in the City of Waterloo. Upon arrival, a bale of straw was on fire at the rear of Albert Mccormick Community Center and was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries. WORKPLACE ACCIDENT

On May 5, 2014 at 2:45 pm police were responded to 5 Rittenhouse Road in the city of Kitchener to respond to a male who had fallen from a fourth floor balcony. The apartment complex is new construction and nearing completion. The male victim had been working at the site and was standing on the balcony. Upon using the temporary railing, it gave way allowing for the victim to fall approximately thirty feet to the ground. The male sustained non-life threatening back and leg injuries from the fall and was transported to Grand River Hospital for treatment. The Ministry of Labour was contacted to investigate the workplace incident.

ROBBERY

On May 1, 2014 at approximately 9:50p.m. a robbery occurred at Toll Gate Plaza Convenience in the city of Waterloo. A lone male suspect dressed all in black with a covered face entered the convenience store and ordered the store clerk to the ground. The suspect stole cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes and fled on foot. The suspect was not located. Police continue to investigate this occurrence.

OFFENSIVE WEAPON

On May 2, 2014 at 12:04 p.m., a Wellesley man brandished an imitation firearm at a Kitchener motorist over a road rage incident on Highway 8 in Kitchener. The suspect was apprehended by police later that afternoon and is being charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. No persons were injured in this incident.

Thursday, May 1, 2014, on Roseview Ave, Cambridge, members of Waterloo Regional police arrested an adult male as a result of an investigation into the trafficking of illicit street drugs. Seized during the course of the arrest were a variety of controlled drugs and substances worth an estimated street value of $39,000. The adult male will appear in Kitchener Court, May 2nd, 2014 to answer to numerous drug offences and breaches of court orders.

MVC PERSONAL INJURY

On Saturday May 3, 2014 at 1:50 am in front of 667 King St. W in Kitchener, a 24 year old female from Kitchener was struck by a red Ford Focus motor-vehicle driven by a 23 year old female from Ridgeway Ontario. The pedestrian crossed mid block when she ran out in front of the car. The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and head injuries. The Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Branch investigated the collision and as a result the pedestrian was charged with Failing to Use a Crosswalk under the Highway Traffic Act. Damage to the car was minor.

ARREST

On the May 1, 2014, Waterloo Regional Police Service Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Highway 8 near Hamilton. Recovered from the the property were numerous stolen motor vehicles which included pick-up trucks, ATV , snowmobiles and campers totally more than $150 000. A 41 year old Hamilton male was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to appear in Kitchener Provincial Court later in May.

MISSING PERSON

The Waterloo Regional Police Service are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 53 year-old female from the area of downtown Kitchener. Margaret LEGRAND was last seen downtown on April 25th, 2014. She suffers from a number of health issues that affect her ability to fully care for herself and there is a general concern for her well-being. Anybody who sees Legrand is asked to contact the police at 519-653-7700. Legrand is a white female, 155cm in height, heavy build, brown hair, green eyes, and can often be found wearing black or purple clothing.

ASSAULT – Victim Left On Roadway

On April 28, 2014 at 5:30 pm police responded to a road rage assault that took place on Ottawa Street South near Trussler Rd in Kitchener. A 67 year old man had been assaulted and was left lying on the roadway by the suspect who fled the area. Both the victim and the suspect were initially travelling south on Ira Needles Blvd when the suspect, driving a white pickup truck, began to pursue the victim at the Victoria Street roundabout and proceeded to cut the victim off while gesturing at him.

The suspect followed the victim to Ottawa Street where the victim pulled over to allow the suspect to pass. At that point, the suspect exited his vehicle, approached the victim and assaulted him with the car door. He also punched the victim several times before fleeing the area. Several witnesses stopped to assist the victim. Police are looking for a white male, approximately 5’9”, with a stocky build. The male was clean shaven and balding and left a beige baseball hat at the scene. He was driving a white pickup truck at the time of the incident. BREAK & ENTER

On April 29th, 2014 at approximately 8:45pm the Waterloo Regional Police Service arrested three young persons, who were inside a stolen motor vehicle at the Kitchener Auditorium, 400 East Ave. Kitchener. The vehicle had previously been stolen from a Kitchener residence along with other items on April 27th, 2014 during a break and enter. After police investigation, two of the young people were released unconditionally. The third 15 year old male was charged with several criminal offences, including two counts of break/Enter and theft, theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of failing to comply with his probation, theft under $5000.00 and possession of stolen property under $5000.00. The accused was held for showcause court on April 30th, 2014.
