ROBBERY

On May 5, 2014 about 1:20am the victim, a 27 year Kitchener male, was responding to a request for pizza delivery at 40 Paulander Drive, Kitchener. Upon arrival the victim was confronted by 3 male suspects brandishing edged weapons. The suspects demanded cash and electronics which were handed over. One suspect also entered the victim’s vehicle to search for additional items. There were no injuries as a result of this robbery. The suspects are described as: 1. Male, Black, 5’10” tall, late teens/early 20s wearing baggy grey or white clothing; 2. Male, White or Hispanic, 5’10” tall, late teens, thin build; and 3. Male, White or Hispanic, 6’ tall, late teens. On May 12, 2013 at 1:16 am police arrested a 23 year old female and a 26 year old male, both from Kitchener, in connection to an ongoing initiative into property crime reduction. Some of the offences involved attempts at entering and committing thefts from parked vehicles. Through further investigation, personal property was located which may be linked to other incidents of theft in the area. The affected area may include those neighbourhoods near Madison Ave. S, Stirling Ave. S, and Heiman St. in the city of Kitchener. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service regarding any potentially linked incidents. The accused persons are expected to be charged with numerous criminal offences.

MVC HIT AND RUN

On May 10, 2014 at approximately 11:35pm a motor vehicle struck two light standards at the intersection of Ottawa Street South and Strasburg Road in the City of Kitchener. The occupants of the motor vehicle fled the scene before police arrival. It is unknown if any injuries were sustained by the occupants. Traffic was re-routed for several hours while the light standards were replaced. DISTURBANCE

On Saturday, May 10, 2014 at approximately 5 p.m. an altercation occurred among several adult males on King Street in the downtown area of Kitchener. As result of this altercation, one male was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. Police have received information that passers-by may have caught this altercation on their cellphone video. FIRE

Sunday May 11th, 2014 at approximately 3:59 a.m. an explosion was heard in the area of 121 Morgan Avenue, Kitchener. Waterloo Regional Police, Emergency Medical Services and Kitchener Fire Department attended the scene to find a car fully engulfed in flames. The owner, who was in close proximity to the vehicle, was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Kitchener Fire Department Fire Prevention officers. On Sunday May 11, 2014 at 11:15 a.m. a 46 year old Brampton woman drove her vehicle out of the parking lot at 1305 Bishop St, Cambridge, and across Bishop Street where she crashed into the storefront of Magnotta Wine Store. The woman suffered minor injuries and has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Careless Driving. Her vehicle was destroyed and the store sustained extensive damage.

Waterloo Regional Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in a motor vehicle collision investigation. The collision, involving a motorcycle and a car, possibly a silver, older model sedan, occurred on Saturday May 10, 2014 at approximately 3:57 p.m. at the intersection of King Street North at Hickory Street East in the city of Waterloo. The sedan left the scene prior to police arrival. The motorcycle operator sustained injuries requiring treatment in hospital. On May 11, 2014 at approximately 9:05pm a motor vehicle collision occurred on Courtland Av at Madison Av in the City of Kitchener. An 18 year old Kitchener male and one passenger in a 1985 Volkswagen were travelling eastbound on Madison Av. That vehicle collided with a 2012 Toyota southbound on Courtland Av and driven by a 37 year old Kitchener male. This vehicle also had two other occupants one of who suffered minor injuries. Both occupants of the Jetta suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen faces numerous charges as the investigation continues.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 53 year-old female from the area of downtown Kitchener. Margaret LEGRAND was last seen downtown on April 25th, 2014. She suffers from a number of health issues that affect her ability to fully care for herself and there is a general concern for her well-being. Anybody who sees Legrand is asked to contact the police at 519-653-7700. Legrand is a white female, 155cm in height, heavy build, brown hair, green eyes, and can often be found wearing black or purple clothing.

On May 7, 2014 at 9:51pm police received a report of two males breaking into a Westminster Dr. Cambridge residence. Police located one suspect who fled on foot after a brief altercation with officers. South Division officers set up a perimeter and a Police canine team was brought in. Within an hour the suspect was located in a backyard shed of a home on Argyle St. A 20 yr old Cambridge male was taken into police custody and has been charged with Break/Enter with intent, Assault Police with intent to resist, and Weapons Dangerous. A search of the male incident to his arrest yielded approximately 1.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and just over 3 grams of marihuana. The male was held in police custody pending the outcome of a showcause hearing on May 8, 2014. The male faces charges of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Police Service Annual Awards Night dedicated to citizens and police

Waterloo Region ON – As part of Police Week 2014 celebrations, the Waterloo Regional Police Service will be honouring police members and recognizing local citizens during the Annual Awards Night ceremony to be held Monday May 12.
This annual event creates an opportunity for the Service to acknowledge the valuable contributions to community safety made by citizens and police members in the past year.
The theme of for Police Week 2014 is Building Community Partnerships.
“The members of our Service remain highly dedicated to working in partnership with the citizens of our community to ensure public safety and enhance crime prevention,” said Chief Matt Torigian. “Annual Awards Night provides an opportunity to celebrate the values of our Police Service while bringing greater public awareness to excellence in policing and the extraordinary contributions made by members of the community.”
Local citizens will be acknowledged for exceptional and selfless acts and police members will be recognized for exemplary and meritorious service to policing. Police Services Board members will be among the many distinguished guests joining Chief Torigian and our Senior Officers.

Annual Awards Night will be held at Bingeman’s in Kitchener starting at 7pm.

THEFT MOTOR VEHICLE

It was learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Police responded and arrested a 49 year old Kitchener male at the scene. The male was charged with criminal offences and traffic violations and held in custody.
