On May 19th, 2014, at 11:43 p.m., two culprits used a stolen pick-up truck to smash through the doors of a grocery store in New Hamburg. Once inside the store, the culprits used the truck to remove the ATM machine. The culprits fled in a second vehicle parked nearby, leaving the stolen truck behind. One of the culprits is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, and two hundred thirty pounds. He was wearing dark sneakers, dark pants, a light grey hoodie, and a dark balaclava with a single hole for his nose and eyes. MVC PERSONAL INJURY

Monday, May 19, 2014, 6:47 p.m, a sixteen year old Kitchener female was riding her bicycle along a downslope on Lower Mercer St. in the city of Kitchener. The bicycle did not have functioning brakes and as a result as she approached the intersection of Lower Mercer St. and Woolner Trail, she lost control and hit a vehicle traveling eastbound along Woolner Trail. The cyclist did not have a bell or horn attached to her bicycle, and was not wearing a helmet. She was transported to Grand River Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending.

FIRE

On May 19 2014, a resident at 529 Church Street South Cambridge was doing some exterior plumbing work when sparks from a torch ignited the wall underneath the exterior siding. Family members smelled smoke inside the home and called 911. Waterloo Regional Police and Cambridge Fire Department responded. The area was vented and fire extinquished by CFD. The fire was extinguished. Damage estimated at $1000.

On Friday May 16, 2014 at 11:36pm a male driver was arrested for drug related offences at Westheights Drive and Blackwell Drive in the city of Kitchener after a routine traffic stop. Police located 77grams of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana by police. The adult male was later released, he will have to attend court on July 4, 2014 to answer to these charges.

ROBBERY

On May 18th 2014 at approximately 1 p.m., a male suspect took some merchandise while exiting a convenience store on Highland Rd. E. Kitchener. The suspect was confronted by the store employee before leaving about the unpaid merchandise. The suspect assaulted the employee and fled the store on foot. The employee was not seriously injured. The suspect was last seen on Spadina Ave and is described as a white male 30-40 yrs old, short hair, black baseball hat and jean shorts cut below his knees. SEARCH WARRANT

On May 15, 2014, just after 4:30pm, members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Church Street in Kitchener. Several prohibited weapons and replica firearms were found within the residence along with evidence of drug use and drug trafficking. A 48 year old Kitchener male is charged with weapons offences. A 49 year old Cambridge male is charged with breach of probation.

THEFT MOTOR VEHICLE

Thursday, May 15, 2014 at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 2007 silver Nissan Versa was stolen from the parking lot of Fairview Park Mall. Suspect(s) obtained the keys to the vehicle and drove off. Shortly afterward, the stolen Nissan Versa was involved in a hit-and-run collision in the area of Weber St E and Borden Ave N in the city of Kitchener. The stolen vehicle then fled the scene and was located a short distance away, unoccupied. FIRE

On Friday May 16, 2014,at approximately 4am, Waterloo Police responded to 235 Madison Ave at KW Auto Wreckers, in regards to a fire within the compound. The fire was contained to a camper-trailer, and was extinguished quickly by Kitchener Fire. The trailer was deemed as scrap and held no value. There was no injuries or further damaged sustained in the fire. The cause is undetermined, however it is not believed to be suspicious.

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a report of a person on person robbery. Police received information that at approximately 5am on May 15th, 2014 an adult Kitchener male victim was threatened by a male holding a weapon in the area of Ottawa Street South and Alpine Road, Kitchener. The male subject was accompanied by another male and a female in their 20’s. The victim reports that he was forced to drive these parties to 4 different locations before he dropped them all off. During this encounter with them, the victim had some money and a GPS stolen from him. The victim was not injured. Police are investigating. On Wednesday May 14, 2014, a Waterloo resident who helps care for her seriously ill parent hired a local cleaning business to perform services in their home. Upon completion of the work, the complainant noticed that a quantity of prescription pain relievers and sleeping pills were missing from the residence. Police were contacted and initiated an investigation. An employee of the business, a 45 year old Kitchener man, was arrested and is charged with Theft under $5000, Possessing Stolen Property under $5000 and Possession of a controlled substance. The male is scheduled for a court appearance on June 26, 2014. The prescription items have been returned to the patient.
