Northumberland Weekend Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to a number of incidents and speeding charges are among highest in central region through the Civic Day Long Weekend.

From August 1 through August 4, 2025, the focus was on the following offences and number of charges are as follows:

–      Speeding                                                                112

–      Seatbelt                                                                  4

–      Distracted driving                                                   1         

–      Impaired driving                                                     7

–      Fail to move over for emergency vehicles           3

The OPP are reminding motorists to slow down and make safe driving a priority. Over the Civic Day long weekend, officers observed a number of speeding incidents across our communities. Speeding puts everyone at risk including drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians. It reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of collisions.

High-Speed Motorcyclists Fail to Stop for Police

On August 8, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., OPP received a traffic complaint regarding two motorcyclists travelling at high speeds on Highway 401 eastbound at Newtownville. Officers located the vehicles shortly thereafter, but the operators failed to stop for police.

One motorcyclist was then located at the Colborne exit where they were taken into custody.

Justin DASILVA (24) from Strathroy, has been charged with:

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Careless driving

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September. The investigation remains ongoing in relation to the other motorcyclist.

Suspended Driver Flees Police

On August 7, 2025, shortly after 11:00 a.m., police attempted to stop a vehicle which was displaying an incorrect plate on County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The driver did not stop for OPP and following an investigation, the vehicle was located at the rear of a residence in the area.

Officers spoke to the 49-year-old male driver, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, and they were charged with:

–      Driving while under suspension

–      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

–      Fail to stop for police

–      Use plate not authorised for vehicle

–      Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

Suspended Driver Found with Ammunition

On August 10, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., OPP were conducting patrol on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton when the in cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) alerted the officer to a suspended driver. The passenger vehicle was subsequently stopped. The individual was confirmed to be prohibited and a search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of rifle ammunition.

Ryan TANNER (46) from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Driving while prohibited

–      Unauthorised possession of ammunition

–      Careless storage of ammunition

The accused had their vehicle impounded for 45 days and is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in October.

Theft and Dangerous Driving in Alnwick/Haldimand

On August 5, 2025, shortly before 12:30 p.m., police responded to a theft from a commercial premises on County Road 45 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. The individual was alleged to have driven a car at the complainant while leaving the location at speed.

An investigation into the matter began and the person turned themselves into a local detachment later that day.

Nnamdi IHEJIAWUNZE (19) from Cobourg, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Theft under $5,000

–      Dangerous operation

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September.

Impaired and Prohibited Driver in Brighton

On August 4, 2025, at around 5:30 p.m., OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver on Main Street in the Municipality of Brighton. A vehicle description was provided, and officers later located the vehicle on County Road 2 in Quinte West.

Following a traffic stop, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation and through investigation, the person was also found to be prohibited from driving.

Brian CASSIBO (19) from the Municipality of Brighton, was arrested and charged with:

–      Operation while prohibited

–      Novice driver – B.A.C above zero

–      Fail to surrender insurance card

–      Drive motor vehicle, plate improperly displayed

–      Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver.

The accused had their vehicle impounded for 45 days and is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

Impaired Driver Found on Highway 401 Shoulder

On August 3, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., police located a passenger vehicle parked on the shoulder of the Highway 401 on-ramp at Cobourg. Upon interacting with the single occupant, OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation and the individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment.

Oneil DOUGLAS (35) from Peterborough, has been charged with:

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

In addition to a future court date in September, the accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Single-Vehicle Collision Leads to Impaired Charges

On August 8, 2025, at around 7:20 p.m. OPP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Dale Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. Officers arrived and located the damaged passenger vehicle off the roadway. Both occupants were uninjured and following speaking to the driver, police entered into an impaired operation investigation. The individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Alan TANNER (38) from Port Hope, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

In addition to a future court date in September, the accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Northumberland Weekend Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several incidents over the weekend, resulting in multiple charges.

Public Intoxication

On July 24, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of an individual causing a disturbance on Inkerman Street in Campbellford. Police located the person, who was intoxicated.

A 21-year-old male from the Municipality of Trent Hills was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Being intoxicated in a public place

Unwanted Person and Outstanding Warrant

On July 27, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a complaint regarding an unwanted person at a commercial premises on Grand Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The individual was taken into custody and was also found to be wanted by a neighbouring police service.

Before being transferred to that service, a 28-year-old male of no fixed address was charged with:

  • Enter premises when entry prohibited

RIDE Checkpoint Charges

On July 28, 2025, shortly before 3:30 a.m., officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. A passenger vehicle was stopped, and an investigation followed.

A 52-year-old male from the Municipality of Trent Hills was charged with:

  • Obstruct plate
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

Impaired Driving and Speeding

On July 27, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., officers conducting speed enforcement on County Road 25 in the Township of Cramahe observed a pickup truck travelling at 128 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped, and following interaction with the driver, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation. The individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

Betty DUMONTIER (42) from Belle River Lakeshore, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Speeding
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

In addition to a future court date in September, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were initiated under statute.

Northumberland Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to several incidents, including a traffic stop that led to multiple charges involving public mischief and prohibited driving.

Campbellford – Assault Investigation

On July 22, 2025, shortly after 3:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of an earlier altercation at a location on Haigs Beach Road. The accused allegedly assaulted the complainant and caused damage to a vehicle by kicking it. No serious injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, Brad HERMAN (62) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The individual is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September.

Campbellford – Prohibited Driver

On July 22, 2025, at around 9:45 a.m., OPP stopped a driver on Dominion Street for not wearing a seatbelt. Further investigation revealed the individual was prohibited from driving.

Joshua PRATT, 42, from Warkworth, has been charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seatbelt

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.

Trent Hills – Identity Fraud and Ammunition Seizure

On July 22, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., police were officers conducting speed enforcement on County Road 25 stopped a vehicle travelling at 106 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver provided false identity details and was taken into custody. A search revealed approximately 30 rounds of rifle ammunition.

Patrick JENSEN, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Public mischief
  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (Identity fraud)
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition
  • Suspended driving – four counts
  • Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Use of plates not authorized
  • Speeding

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.

The OPP reminds all motorists that providing false information during a traffic stop is a criminal offence and can lead to serious consequences. Additionally, transporting ammunition carelessly poses risks to public safety and will be dealt with accordingly.

Northumerland Weekend Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a range of incidents over the weekend.

On July 12, 2025, at around 7:10 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle travelling on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton. The complainant advised police the driver had pulled into nearby gas station.

Officers located a vehicle and person matching the description provided. Upon speaking with the motorist, OPP entered an impaired operation investigation and the driver was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded open liquor and unmarked cigarettes. 

As a result, Thomas MORRISON (30) from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

–      Possess unmarked cigarettes

In addition to a future court date in August, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

On June 15, 2025, officers received multiple calls regarding a person yelling and causing a disturbance on Durham Street South in Colborne. OPP spoke to the complainants who further advised that the individual was playing overly loud music.

The subject of the complaint was a neighbour, and they did not make themselves available to police. Officers spoke to the individual on July 11, 2025, and they were subsequently taken into custody.

A 54-year-old male, from the Township of Cramahe, has been charged with:

–      Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property

–      Causing a disturbance

The accused shall not be named to protect the identity of the victims. He was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

On July 13, 2025, shortly before 1:00 a.m., OPP were on patrol on County Road 45 in the Township of Hamilton when an officer was alerted by the in cruiser automated license plate recognition (ALPR) to a suspended driver.

The vehicle was then stopped and driver confirmed to be suspended. Further investigation revealed the person was in breach of release conditions.

As a result, Jordan CARR (28) from Ajax, has been charged with:

–      Failure to comply with undertaking

–      Driving while under suspension – two counts

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

ALPR technology is now installed in OPP patrol vehicles and plays a vital role in enhancing public safety. These systems automatically scan licence plates and compare them against databases to identify stolen vehicles, suspended drivers, missing persons, and other public safety concerns. Officers receive real-time alerts, allowing for swift and informed action on Ontario’s roads.

On July 13, 2025, around 7:30 p.m., police responded to a family dispute at a residence on County Road 65 in the Municipality of Port Hope.

Officers attended the address and spoke to the caller. The subject of the complaint had left the location and there were no serious injuries involved. OPP began an investigation into the incident and made efforts to locate the accused.

The individual turned themselves in at a detachment later in the evening when they were placed under arrest.

As a result, a 64-year-old male, from the Municipality of Port Hope, has been charged with:

–      Assault with a weapon

–      Assault – two counts

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.

From July 11-14, 2025, OPP issued 51 Provincial Offence Notices in Northumberland with speeding being the top offence at 28. Among notable summons were incidents such as:

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

–      Drive motor vehicle – part detached

–      Fail to remain

–      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.

Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement was also undertaken with the following offences found:

–      Improper tires

–      Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly

–      Fail to supply driver with daily inspection schedule

–      Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report

–      Fail to ensure performance standards are met

–      Permit operation of vehicle – fail to display inspection sticker or proof

–      Fail to surrender inspection schedule

–      Fail to surrender completed daily inspection report

This commercial vehicle focus was linked to Operation Safe Driver Week (July 6-12).

CMV safety and enforcement form part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Strategy. It is every driver’s responsibility to share our roads safely. This is particularly important when large commercial vehicles are present. 

Approximately 20 percent of fatal collisions on OPP-patrolled roads last year (2024) involved a CMV. Contributing factors in OPP-investigated CMV collisions are attributed to poor actions and behaviours on the part of both CMV drivers and non-commercial drivers.

Operation Safe Driver Week is one of many CMV safety initiatives the OPP supports and conducts as part of its efforts to save lives on our roads.

Northumberland Weekly Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a number of charges in unrelated incidents recently.

In April 2025, police received a report regarding an online fraud where a Township of Cramahe resident was subject to a romance scam between November 2024 and March 2025. A quantity of cash had been provided to an individual and OPP began an investigation into the matter.

Through lines of enquiry and with the assistance of Orillia OPP, officers arrested a person sought in connection to the incident on June 9, 2025.

As a result, Edith BAGLEY, 73, from Orillia, has been charged with:

–      Fraud over $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in July, before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

In April 2025, officers received a complaint regarding the theft of a cell phone from a commercial premises on Main Street in the Municipality of Brighton. Police viewed footage of the incident and began an investigation where an individual was identified and a warrant sought for their arrest.

With the assistance of Quinte West OPP, the individual was taken into custody on June 12, 2025.

Laim WALLACE, 18, from Prince Edward County, has been charged with:

–      Theft under $5,000.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

In May 2025, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit began an investigation following a report of a sexual assault believed to have occurred in late 2023. The victim was known to the accused at this time.

As a result of the investigation, an individual was arrested on June 9, 2025. A 51-year-old male, from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age.

The accused shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim. The person is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed. You can report a sexual assault by calling the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in an emergency. On June 7, 2025, police received a report where a caller advised that they were threatened the previous day after they stopped their vehicle on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton. The accused exited the vehicle their vehicle and confronted the complainant. Details were provided to officers for their investigation.

On June 9, 2025, Shane TIGHE, 50, from the Municipality of Brighton, was arrested and charged with:

–      Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

On June 7, 2025, shortly after 1:00 p.m., OPP responded to a report of intimate partner violence at an address in the Municipality of Port Hope. The subject of the complaint was then reported to be driving an agricultural vehicle while impaired.

Officers proceeded to the location and observed the person operating a vehicle. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however the accused fled from police and almost collided with a stationary cruiser. The individual later stopped at a nearby gas station where they were taken into custody.

A 47-year-old male, from the Municipality of Port Hope, has been charged with:

–      Assault – spousal

–      Dangerous operation

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

–      Mischief – interfere with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property

–      Take motor vehicle without consent

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court.

The accused shall not be named to protect the identity of the complainant. The individual was held for a Bail Hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

On June 13, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Morrish Church Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. Police arrived and observed a number of tire marks on the road leading to the passenger vehicle in the ditch. Following speaking to the uninjured driver, OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Robyn GRAY, 27, from Lyndhurst, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt.

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

Northumberland Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a number of individuals in unrelated incidents recently.

On May 9, 2025, police received a complaint from an owner of a business in Alderville regarding an individual who had stolen approximately $750 worth of product and $60 in cash on April 6, 2025.

As a result of the investigation, an individual was arrested on May 10, 2025.

Nicholas VANHOEKELEN (age 23), from Hastings, has been charged with:

–      Theft under $5,000.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

On May 10, 2025, at around 10:35 a.m., police received a traffic complaint regarding a passenger vehicle unable to maintain it’s lane while travelling south on Burnham Street North in the Township of Hamilton. OPP stopped a vehicle matching the description provided and following speaking to the driver, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made of which the motorist complied. With the result of ‘FAIL’, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Harry PROCTOR (age 18), from Bridgenorth, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt

–      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero.

On May 11, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., police reported to a report of a disturbance near an address on Meade Street in the Municipality of Brighton. The caller advised that two persons had caused damage to the windows of a vehicle and a residence.

Officers stopped two individuals in a vehicle matching the description provided by the complainant on Elizabeth Street. Upon speaking with the driver, OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the accused was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests. The passenger was also taken into custody in relation to mischief.

Leland STILES (age 19), from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Mischief

–      Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger

–      Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour

–      Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

–      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero.

A 17-year-old from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Mischief – two counts.

They shall not be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Both are due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

On May 11, 2025, at around 1:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.

Officers arrived an observed a passenger vehicle off the highway and among the trees near the off ramp at Lyle Street. Police spoke to the uninjured driver and began an impaired operation investigation. An ASD demand was made and following the result, the accused was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment.

Darren WHITEHEAD (age 37), from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.

On May 13, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., OPP responded to a report of a family dispute at a residence in Alderville. The complainant advised that they had been assaulted. The accused had left the location before the arrival of police. No injuries were reported.

On May 14, 2025, a 21-year-old male, from Roseneath was taken into custody and has been charged with:

–      Assault with a weapon

–      Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence

–      Mischief – domestic

–      Forcible entry.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.

In addition to a future court date for each accused charged with impaired operation, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

Northumberland Weekend Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a number of individuals in unrelated incidents over the weekend.

On February 26, 2025, officers received a report of a theft which had occurred at a commercial premises on Main Street in the Municipality of Brighton. The person sought in connection to the incident had left before the arrival of police. An investigation into the theft of a phone and purse began with the result of a warrant issued for the arrest of the accused.

On April 10, 2025, the individual was arrested by a neighboring police service and custody was transferred to Northumberland OPP.

Jonathon ATKINSON (age 33), from the Township of Cramahe, has been charged with:

–      Theft under $5,000

–      Use of a credit card obtained by crime

–      Fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

On April 14, 2025, at around 5:00 p.m., police responded to a family dispute at a residence on Deerfield Drive in the Municipality of Brighton. Officers arrived and took one individual into custody. There were no injuries reported.

A 38-year-old male, from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with:

–      Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.

On April 12, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., OPP received a report relating to an assault which had occurred at an address in the Township of Cramahe. Officers arrived and began an investigation into the incident along with historical intimate partner violence. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were not required.

As a result, a 41-year-old male, from the Township of Cramahe, has been charged with:

–      Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle – two counts

–      Assault – spousal – two counts

–      Forcible confinement.

The individual is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.

Northumberland Weekly Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a number of incidents recently.

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 5:15 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision at 2nd Line Road in Roseneath. Officers arrived on the scene where a passenger vehicle was in the ditch having collided with a hydro pole.

Following speaking with the uninjured driver, an officer entered into an impaired operation investigation which resulted in the accused being taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests. Further avenues of investigation revealed that the individual had taken the vehicle without consent.

As a result, Madisen KILTZ (age 27) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Take motor vehicle without consent.

In addition to a future court date, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On March 17, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., police and the Municipality of Brighton Fire Department responded to a fire at a residence on Chapel Street in Brighton. Officers arrived at the location where the fire department were already present. All five occupants vacated from the property without injury. Two persons who were nearby at the time were transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital as a precaution.

The Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted, and OPP Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) attended the location to assist with the investigation.

A vehicle at the location was destroyed and major damage throughout the structure was sustained as a result of the incident.

The scene was held until approximately 1:00 p.m. and the circumstances surrounding the fire are still under investigation.

On March 18, 2025, shortly before 1:00 a.m., police received a report regarding a single vehicle collision on County Road 10 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Members of the fire department also proceeded to the location.

Officers arrived at the scene where a passenger vehicle had collided with a hydro pole causing extensive damage. The vehicle was unoccupied, and OPP began an investigation into the incident.

Police attended a nearby residence where they spoke to the driver who had sustained minor injuries but did not require EMS. Upon speaking with the individual, OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made by an officer and with the result of ‘FAIL’, the accused was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

As a result, Daniel SMITH (age 33) from Campbellcroft, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The road was closed in the area until around 1:00 p.m. for repairs to the hydro pole.

In addition to a future court date, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On March 18, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., members of the Northumberland-Peterborough Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at an address on Maple Street in Campbellford.

A small quantity of Cocaine was seized along with Canadian currency and gift cards believed to be the proceeds of crime.

As a result, John SELBY (age 47), from The Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

–      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Collision Update: Driver’s Injuries Upgraded to Life-Threatening

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – Injuries sustained to a driver involved in a single-vehicle collision have now been determined to be life-threatening.

On March 29, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., emergency services including members of the Middlesex County OPP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on McGillivray Drive between Lieury Road and Creamery Road in the Municipality of North Middlesex.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local trauma centre with injuries initially determined to be non-life-threatening, however the injuries have since been upgraded to life-threatening.

Investigation is ongoing.
