London Murder – Names Released

LONDON, ON (January 7, 2024) – A man is facing charges in relation to a suspicious death investigation on Chippewa Drive this morning.

The victim has been identified as Phy Puth, 64, of London.

The victim and accused were known to each other.

As a result of the investigation, Lee Couturier, 48, of London, has been charged with second degree murder.

The accused is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the investigation.

Wanted For Attempted Murder – DO NOT APPROACH: Andrew Joseph PITRE

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking a 33-year-old man wanted for Attempted Murder.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., police were called to a motel in the area of Highway 11 and Canal Road, in the Township of King, for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a 24-year-old male victim with gunshot injuries. He was transported to a trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. The suspect was not located at that time.

Andrew Joseph PITRE, 33, of the Township of King, is wanted for Attempted Murder and firearms-related offences. Police have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Investigators are releasing his image and appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.

PITRE is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, citizens are urged not to approach him but to call police immediately.

The accused is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in.

Attempted Murder – 51 Year Old Arrested

(TECUMSEH, ON) The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual following a report of a disturbance in Tecumseh.

On January 2, 2025, at approximately 2:51 a.m., Essex County OPP members received a report of a disturbance at a residence on 10th Concession Road, Town of Tecumseh.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew Robert BREWIN, 51-year-old of Tecumseh, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

·        Attempt to Commit Murder

·        Assault with A Weapon

·        Intimidation – use or threatens use of violence

·        Theft Under $5000

·        Breach of Recognizance

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

The accused and two victims were treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Murder – Jade Hayward Arrested

As a result of continued investigation, Niagara Regional Police Service homicide detectives have been able to identify a suspect in the August 2024 homicide of Daniel Sanvido.

On Thursday January 2, 2025, detectives arrested 36-year-old Jade Hayward of St. Catharines, who is facing the following charge:

–          First Degree Murder

Hayward is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday January 3, 2025, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

UPDATE 1 – Detectives investigating Port Colborne Death – August 26, 2024

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the death of an adult male located in a rural area of the City of Port Colborne.

Detectives have now been able to identify the man as 38-year-old Daniel Sanvido who was the victim of a homicide.

Investigators are asking anyone with information, or who may have had contact with Daniel within the last week leading up to his death to contact Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs at (905) 688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009103

ORIGINAL RELEASE – August 25, 2024

At 3:35pm on Saturday August 24, 2024, 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers were called to the area of Forkes Road and Highway 140 in the City of Port Colborne following the report of a deceased male in a grassy area off the roadway.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages; there is currently a heavy police presence in the area with Homicide detectives, along with the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) investigating.

Detectives do not have information to suggest an on-going threat to the community, however, they are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling Lead Investigator Detective Sergeant Shawn Briggs (905) 688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009103.

Murder Update: Names Released

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has completed the next of kin notification and can inform that the victim in the December 25th homicide on Spadina Avenue is 46-year-old Jolene Arreak of Ottawa. 

Manasi FOO, 35-years-old, of Ottawa, has been charged with second degree murder, he will appear in court today.     

FOO is also charged with attempted murder on a surviving victim who was treated in hospital and released.

Murder – Names & Photos Released

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have identified and charged two additional suspects in connection with the disappearance and death of Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, MUI was reported missing by family after they had not heard from her since 11 a.m. Later that day, her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 sport utility vehicle was located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, in the City of Toronto.

On August 12, 2024, Ontario Provincial Police officers reported burned human remains had been located in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, in the Town of Parry Sound. On August 21, 2024, the Office of the Chief Coroner positively identified the deceased as MUI.

On November 27, 2024, investigators arrested Abid KHUGIANI and laid several charges in connection with the homicide.

On December 4, 2024, investigators arrested Oscar LIANG and charged him with several charges, including Manslaughter, in connection with the homicide.

Troy LEDREW – Attempt Murder, Etc.

(MISSISSAUGA, ON) – Police have laid charges in an incident where an individual shot at numerous vehicles on Highway 401 in Mississauga.

The incident began on November 26, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., when reports began coming into the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The male was reported to have stolen a vehicle from a passing motorist before fleeing the area. The OPP coordinated with Toronto Police Service (TPS) and Peel Regional Police to effectively manage the multiple scenes and numerous witnesses and victims involved. The accused was soon identified, and his photo and description were shared with media and the public. Following the two-day investigation, the accused was arrested by TPS members in the evening of November 27, 2024.

On December 9, 2024, the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) members have charged 29-year-old Troy LEDREW, of no fixed address, with the following offences as per the Criminal Code:

  • Attempt to commit murder using a restricted firearm, as per section 239(1)(a) – four counts
  • Robbery using a firearm (restricted or prohibited), as per section 344(1)(a) – six counts
  • Possess Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order, as per section 117.01(1) – three counts
  • Discharge a restricted or prohibited firearm with intent, as per section 244(1)(2)
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm, as per section 244.2(1)(b)
  • Point Firearm, as per section 87
  • Possession of a loaded firearm, as per section 95(1)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as per section 320.13(1)

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on December 10, 2024.

First Degree Murder

(MAGNETAWAN, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made an additional arrest in relation to a recent homicide investigation.

On November 21, 2024, police located a deceased person in the area of Kirkpatrick’s Road and Highway 124. The person was later identified as a 34-year-old male from North Bay, and the death was deemed a homicide.

The Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit has continued its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

On December 1, 2024, one person was arrested and charged with first degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code (CC). The accused remains in custody.

On December 3, 2024, officers made a second arrest in relation to the investigation. Merrick Romere MANGALLON, 28-years-old of Scarborough was arrested and charged with:

  • First degree murder contrary to section 235 (1) CC
  • Forcible confinement contrary to section 279 (2) CC
  • Kidnapping while using firearm contrary to section 279 (1.1) CC

The accused remains in custody.

Dallas SNOW – First Degree Murder

(MAGNETAWAN, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made an arrest in relation to a recent homicide investigation.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on December 2, 2024.

Attempted Murder

 (TOWNSHIP OF CRAMAHE, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an attempted murder in the Township of Cramahe.

On November 13, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., the Northumberland OPP were called to a residence on Mitchell Road in relation to a dropped 9-1-1 call. One person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety.

As a result of the initial investigation, one individual was arrested and charged on November 14, 2024.

On November 28, 2024, members from the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement located and arrested a second individual in Ottawa who was wanted in relation to the incident. The accused was then transported to a detachment in Northumberland.

Serguei PETROV, 41-years-old from Ottawa, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        Aggravated assault, section 268

·        Pointing a firearm, section 87

The individual was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, and Canine Unit.

15 Year Old Facing Murder Charge

(PERTH, ON) – The individual arrested in the killing of a 15-year-old male in Perth is now charged with first degree murder.

Officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the area of North Street North and Sherbrooke Street East on Friday, October 25, 2024. One person was located deceased, and another person was arrested at a home in the area.

A 16-year-old was initially charged with second degree murder, but the investigation has resulted in the charge being elevated to first degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on November 28, 2024.

The identity of this individual is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

While we cannot discuss the evidence or possible motives, the OPP asks for your patience and urges everyone to refrain from spreading unverified and potentially misleading information.

Murder – Names Released

(CALEDON, ON) – The Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals and identified the deceased in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation.

Officers were called to a residence on Deer Ridge Trail shortly before 10:00 p.m. on November 9, 2024, where one person was located injured and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Rabinder MALHI, 52 years old of Brampton.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, members of the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit charged Rajinder KUMAR, 47 years old of Caledon, with second degree murder, section 235(1) of the Criminal Code (CC). 

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 18, 2024.

Additionally, Sheetal VERMA, 35 years old of Caledon, was charged with obstruct justice, section 139(2) CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on December 12, 2024.

The Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

3 Month Old Dead – 2 Arrested, Names Released

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – Two individuals have been charged in connection with an infant death in Chamberlain Township in September 2022.

On September 3, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance from the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) regarding a three-month-old infant with no vital signs at a residence on Chamberlain Road 5. The infant was transported to hospital by EMS and later pronounced deceased.  

A thorough investigation was conducted by the Temiskaming OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP North East Region Support Team and OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.  

On November 12, 2024, two people were arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences.

Jeffrey DOONAN, 32 years old of King Kirkland, was charged with:

  • Second degree murder, section 215(1)(a)

·      Criminal negligence causing death, section 220(b)

  • Fail to provide the necessaries of life, section 215(1)(a)

Michelle DOONAN, 33 years old of King Kirkland, was charged with:

·      Criminal negligence causing death, section 220(b)

·      Fail to provide necessaries of life, section 215(1)(a)

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on November 13, 2024.

Mitchell BARINK – Attempt Murder With Firearm

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has released the name of the accused individual in connection with an attempted murder that occurred in Quinte West.

On October 31, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., members of the Quinte West OPP, Quinte West Fire and Emergency Medical Services, OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, Quinte West OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services responded to the area of Belleville Street in Frankford, after a shooting was reported.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre for treatment. Officers arrested one person located a short distance away.

As a result of the investigation, Mitchell BARINK, 27 years old from Frankford, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

•         Attempt to commit murder using firearm, sec. 239(1)(a.1)

•         Discharge firearm with intent, sec. 244(1)

•         Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, sec. 88(1)

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 4, 2024.

15 Year Old Murdered – 16 Year Old Arrested

(PERTH, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid a murder charge following a death in Perth.

Officers with the Lanark County Detachment responded to the area of North Street North and Sherbrooke Street East just before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024.

One person was located deceased, and another person was arrested at a home in the area.

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Reese STANZEL of Perth.

The OPP has charged a 16-year-old with second degree murder – section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused remains in custody with a virtual bail hearing scheduled for today (Saturday, October 26, 2024) before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

The identity of this individual is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Anyone who shares the name publicly could be subject to criminal charges.

Residents of the area will continue to see a large police presence.

The investigation by members of the Lanark County OPP, the Lanark County Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit is continuing, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
