Infant Dead – 2 Charged With Manslaughter

(WAWA, ON) -Police have arrested and charged two individuals in relation to an infant death that occurred one and a half years ago.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a hospital in Wawa where an infant was brought in by family members with no vital signs.

A thorough investigation was conducted by the Sault Ste. Marie and Superior East OPP Crime Units, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Regional Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

As a result of the investigation, Steffani OLIVER, 28 years old of Sault Ste. Marie, and Amanda TAYLOR, 31 years old of Goulais River, were arrested and each charged with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

One Dead – Robert WORMALD Arrested

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person in relation to a drug overdose death investigation in Kirkland Lake.

On Monday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Kirkland Lake OPP, Timiskaming District Emergency Medical Services and Kirkland Lake Fire Services responded to a report of an unresponsive person at a residence on Government Road East. A 42-year-old from Kirkland Lake was located deceased.

As a result of the investigation, Robert WORMALD, 53 years old from Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with manslaughter contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Overdose Death – 42 Year Old Facing Manslaughter Charge

(WEST ELGIN, ON) – An investigation conducted by the Elgin County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, Elgin County OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner has culminated in criminal charges against a West Elgin resident.

On May 12, 2025, members of the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), has charged one person as a result of an opioid overdose, which claimed a life in West Elgin.

On July 6, 2023, police were called to a residence in West Elgin where a 28-year-old male was found unresponsive and died at the scene. The investigation has revealed that the victim died because of an opioid overdose.

A 42-year-old male from West Elgin has been charged with:

·        Manslaughter

·        Traffick in Schedule I Substance – other drugs

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas at a later date.

One Dead At Warkworth – Quinnton DRAKE Facing Manslaughter Charge

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual in relation to a death investigation at the Warkworth Institution.

On Sunday, May 28, 2023, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Northumberland OPP received information regarding an incident involving inmates at the institution. One person sustained serious injuries. 

On Friday, June 23, 2023, the individual succumbed to their injuries, and a homicide investigation was initiated by the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Quinnton DRAKE, 32 years old of Loyalist Township, was charged with manslaughter, section 236(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 13, 2025.

One Dead – Adam PETERS Arrested

(PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION, ON) – Charges have been laid in connection with a sudden death that occurred in Pikangikum First Nation in April 2024.

On April 3, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Pikangikum Police attended a residence in Pikangikum First Nation for a report of a sudden death. Upon arrival, police located a 24-year-old female deceased inside the residence.

Following a lengthy and thorough investigation, Adam PETERS, 37 years old of Pikangikum First Nation, was charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

·      Manslaughter, section 236(b) CC

·      Administer noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, section 245(1)(a) CC

·      Trafficking in Schedule I substance – other drugs, section 5(1) CDSA

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on February 26, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by the Red Lake OPP Crime Unit under the direction of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance was also provided from the OPP North West Region Regional Support Team, the OPP North West Region Major Crime Investigation Team, OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Thunder Bay Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Team.

Edgar MARSHALL Was Arrested

(WEST ELGIN, ON) – Police have charged an individual with an additional criminal charge following an ongoing investigation in West Elgin.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Edgar MARSHALL, 27-years-old of London, has been further charged under section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code with Manslaughter.

The accused was remanded into custody on August 23, 2024, on previous charges. This individual remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on December 27, 2024.

The investigation began on August 23, 2024, after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Municipality of West Elgin by the Elgin-Middlesex Community Street Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit with assistance from the OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, and Emergency Response Team.

A publication ban has been issued and further information will not be released.

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Owen Sound Homicide Update – Names Released

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – Further information about arrests is being provided in relation to a homicide investigation being conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS).

The investigation started when Sharifur RAHMAN, a 44-year-old resident of Owen Sound, was assaulted on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound on August 17, 2023, around 9:20 p.m. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on August 24, 2023. Police discovered that the suspects linked to the assault had left the country, prompting OPP and OSPS to collaborate with international partners to coordinate the arrests overseas.

Due to the nature of the investigation and the international element, the information was sealed in an effort to support the apprehension of the accused. On August 15, 2024, the OPP and OSPS released limited information that arrests have been made. As the information was sealed and one suspect was outstanding, further information could not be released.

Two individuals, both citizens of the United Kingdom (UK), have been arrested and charged with Criminal Code offences:

  • Robert EVANS, 24 years old, has been charged with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236(b).
  • Robert Busby EVANS, 47 years old, has been charged with Accessory after the Fact to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 463(a).

On October 29, 2024, Barry EVANS, 54 years old of the UK, was arrested and charged with Accessory after the Fact to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 463(a).

The individuals are currently in the UK and are before the courts in relation to extradition. There are no timelines available for the extradition of the accused individuals.

The investigation is continuing by the OSPS under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP West Region Crime Units, OPP Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Regional Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance was also provided by police services in West Grey and Hanover, the RCMP, INTERPOL Ottawa Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST) and UK law enforcement members from the National Extradition Unit of the National Crime Agency and Police Scotland.

The OSPS and the OPP would once again like to extend their gratitude to the Owen Sound community and neighbouring jurisdictions for their support and valuable tips. 7 Year Old Dead – 2 Facing Manslaughter Charges

(HEARST, ON) – The James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals in connection with the death of a seven-year-old child in Hearst more than two years ago.

On July 1, 2022, the James Bay OPP was called to assist Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services at an incident on Charbonneau Place in the Town of Hearst. A seven-year-old had suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where they died as a result of their injuries on July 16, 2022.

As a result of the investigation, on December 16, 2024, Rebecca HEBERT, 25 years of age, and Jordan TAYLOR, 32 years of age, both of Hearst, were arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Manslaughter, section 236(b)
  • Fail to provide necessaries of life, section 215(2)(a)(ii)

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on December 17, 2024.

Members of the James Bay OPP and the James Bay OPP Crime Unit conducted the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the North East Regional Support Team and OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Man Slaughtered – Names Released

(GREY BRUCE, ON) – A third person has been charged in connection with a death investigation.

On March 28, 2022, emergency services responded to a 9-1-1 call after 23-year-old Corey SUTHERLAND was located deceased in a residence at a West Black Line, Grey Highlands address.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey Bruce Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service continued to investigate.

On November 27, 2024, police arrested and charged a third person in connection with this incident.

Charged with the following offences is 21-year-old Shakarri Myles Graham COLLINS-SALMON of Toronto, Ontario:

  • Manslaughter contrary to Section 236 (b) of the Criminal Code,
  • Traffic in Schedule I substance – Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act,
  • Traffic in Schedule I Substance – Isotonitazene, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Owen Sound on November 28, 2024.

Man Slaughtered – Two Arrested

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in connection with the death of a 27-year-old male from the Pembroke area.

On July 23, 2023, members of the UOV OPP responded to assist Renfrew County Paramedics at a residence on Pembroke Street East in the City of Pembroke. Officers located Chance TURCOTT deceased at the location.

Following an extensive investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services, two people have been arrested.

Donald Wesley SULLIVAN, age 35 of Pembroke, was arrested March 19, 2024, and Taylor HEIN, age 37 of Ottawa, was arrested April 3, 2024. Both have been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

  • Manslaughter – Section 236 (b) CC
  • Trafficking in a schedule I substance – fentanyl – Section 5(1) CDSA

The accused persons remain in custody following bail hearings on April 4, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Pembroke. SULLIVAN is scheduled to appear again on April 9, 2024. HEIN is scheduled to make another appearance on April 18, 2024.

Manslaughter In Huron – 23 Year Old Arrested

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – An investigation conducted by the Huron Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification and Digital Forensic Services, OPP Forensic Interview Team, West Region OPP Regional Support Team, Grey Bruce OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit, members of the Grey Bruce OPP and Huron OPP Detachments in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Centre of Forensic Science has culminated in criminal charges against a Kitchener resident.

On March 27th, 2024, members of the Huron OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), charged one person as a result of an opioid overdose, which claimed a life in Central Huron.

On September 13th, 2023, police were called to a residence in Central Huron where a 19-year-old male was found unresponsive and died at the scene. The investigation has revealed that the victim died because of an opioid overdose.

Justin VASEY, now 23-years-old, from Kitchener has been charged with:

–      Manslaughter – contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with

–      Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) – contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,

–      Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,

–      Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Goderich on March 28th, 2024.

Owen Sound Manslaughter: Police Endanger Community By Refusing To Identify Criminals In City

On March 5, 2024, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call seeking medical assistance in relation to a drug overdose, at an apartment on the lower west side of the city.

Grey County Paramedics arrived as did police, with the 37 year old Owen Sound male being transported to Brightshores Health Systems, where he was pronounced deceased. As a result, members of the Criminal Investigations Branch commenced an investigation which led to a Grey
County resident being arrested. The 27 year old male was charged with Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl and Manslaughter.

The male was remanded into custody with his next court appearance being later this month.
