Hunter ARMSTRONG – Theft, Impaired Driving

(WHITEFISH RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged as a result of a call for service.

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service regarding a person who attempted to steal a motor vehicle from a residence on Highway 6 in Whitefish River First Nation.

Further information provided to police was that the person left on foot. Upon arrival, police located this person walking on Highway 6, and they were subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Hunter ARMSTRONG, 19-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 7, 2024.

Two More Impaired Drivers – Names Released

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recently charged two motorists with operation while impaired.

On April 3, 2024, just before 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Airport Road and Olde Base Line Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.  

As a result, David BALDWIN, 48, of Caledon, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

On April 7, 2024, shortly after 12:00 a.m., Caledon OPP officers conducted a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle, while patrolling the area of Mayfield Road and McLaughlin Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

As a result, Gurwinder DHALIWAL, 24, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Both drivers are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 25, 2024, to answer to the charges. Additionally, both vehicles were impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

OPP Now Catching Drunk Drivers Every Couple Hours #TimesUp

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals with impaired operation related charges.

On April 4, 2024, at about 7:55 p.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP was proactively patrolling the area of West St S in the City of Orillia and conducted a traffic stop having observed a Highway Traffic Act violation. The resulting investigation led the officer to determine that the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Michael SQUIRES, 45-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2024. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

On April 4, 2024, at about 11:23 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Highway 12 and Highway 11 in the City of Orillia. During this time a vehicle entered the RIDE program and the driver was read a demand to provide a sample of their breath. The driver refused. This individual was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Victoria HUISMAN, 33-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in May 2024. As a result of these charges, her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Collision Results In Drug & Weapon Seizure

(TEMAGAMI, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one person with impaired driving following a collision.

On March 28, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Temagami. Through investigation, police determined that one of the drivers was impaired by drug. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for an assessment by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

Police searched the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia and brass knuckles.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon WALKER, 26 years-of-age of Temagami was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5000

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 23, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Driver Arrested for Taking ‘High’ Way 11 a Little Too Literally

(HANLON TOWNSHIP, ON) – A traffic stop on Highway 11, west of Hearst, led to the arrest of the driver, for driving while impaired by a drug.

On April 3, 2024, shortly before 5:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was parked on the east bound shoulder of Highway 11, in Hanlon Township just west of Hearst. 

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sasha MITRON, 25 years of age of Hearst, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 15, 2024 in Hearst. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Erika DE LONG Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 3:58 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program at a location on Main Street of Delhi in Delhi, Norfolk County. During this operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was evaluated for sobriety.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 32-year-old Erika DE LONG of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seatbelt.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Impaired With Sub Machine Gun – What Could Go Wrong?

A loaded firearm was located in a vehicle after a male was arrested for impaired driving in Scugog.

On Monday, April 1, 2024, at approximately 2:55 a.m., members of North Division were on proactive patrol in the area of Simcoe Street and Whitfield Road, in Scugog, when they initiated a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment, was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle was conducted following the arrest and a loaded modified Uzi sub machine gun with a high-capacity magazine, was located and seized.

Brock TATE, age 32 from Pickering is charged with numerous offences including: Operation While Impaired, Obstruct Peace Officer, Driving While Under Suspension, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Possess Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Possess Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence, Possession of a Prohibited Device, and Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm Knowing its Possession is Prohibited/Restricted.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Jo-Ann BELMORE – Impaired Driving

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – An Elliot Lake resident was arrested and charged after a vehicle stop on in Elliot Lake.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Chalmers Crescent. Police stopped a grey pickup truck in order to check the sobriety of the driver. Open cans of alcohol were observed inside the vehicle and three drug bongs were also later located. In addition, approximately 4 grams of suspected psilocybin was in the driver’s possession. The driver was assessed by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) and subsequently arrested.

Jo-Ann BELMORE, 52-years-old, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance
  • Driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 9, 2024.

The OPP would like to remind the motoring public to drive sober; this includes drug consumption as well. Impairment by drugs is a crime under the Criminal Code and drivers are subject to the same penalties as those who are charged with driving while impaired by alcohol.  A charge of impairment by drugs involves all drugs, be it prescription, over-the-counter and those that are illegal.

77 Year Old From Arrested For Drunk Driving

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 7:26 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment conducted a traffic stop and investigation involving a motor vehicle on Highway 3 in Windham, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s level of sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 77-year-old Robert RIVERS of Kitchener, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Jason DONOFRIO – Impaired Driving

(BURKS FALLS, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one person with impaired by drug after responding to a traffic complaint.

On March 25, 2024, shortly after 8:30 p.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver.

Further to the investigation, police located the suspect vehicle on Yonge Street in the Village of Burks Falls. While speaking with the driver police determined the driver had consumed drugs. An arrest was made, and the driver was transported to the OPP detachment where further testing was conducted by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). The vehicle was towed and impounded.

As a result, Jason DONOFRIO, 38 years-of-age, of Scarborough, was charged with: operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday April 25, 2024, in Sundridge, Ontario.

Jesse Lyons – Impaired Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on March 25, 2024 after receiving a call for service from a concerned citizen.

On March 25, 2024 at approximately 1:51 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Front Street in Bobcaygeon. An impaired driving investigation commenced.

Jesse Lyons 25 years old of Bobcaygeon was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.

Midland OPP Weekend Update

(MIDLAND,ON) – Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment were kept busy over March 14-17, 2024 with traffic related incidents on Detachment patrolled roadways.

Impaired Drivers Investigated

Officers conducting a reduce impaired driving everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Heritage Drive at Wye Valley Road, Midland checked the driver of a passing through vehicle for signs of impairment near 11:50 p.m. March 15, 2024 and entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result, Wayne BALKWILL 60-years of Toronto has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

A report of a vehicle being operated erratically in the Heritage Drive and King Street, Midland area caused officers to attend the area at approximately 11:17 p.m. March 14, 2024 who quickly located the suspect vehicle in a nearby parking lot. The driver was spoken to and arrested and investigated for drinking and driving offences.

Officers have charged Doreen STEVENSON 63- years of Oshawa criminally in relation to this investigation with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Dangerous operation.

Both accused persons were released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 28, 2024, served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Serious Vehicle Crash Investigations

Investigators were dispatched at approximately 11:41 a.m. March 17, 2024 to a vehicle crash and roll-over in the ditch of Highway 12, Tay Township. As a result of the crash investigation the 21-year old (uninjured) male driver of Midland has been charged with the following offences – Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, Careless driving, Use plate not authorized for vehicle, Class G1 licence holder – carry front-seat passenger, Operate unsafe vehicle all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and further with Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Officers were also dispatched at approximately 6:53 p.m. March 13, 2024 to a single vehicle fatality on Simcoe County Road 27 in Tiny Township that was previously reported on March 14, 2024, which sadly claimed the life of a 31-year-old Tay Township male. The cause of that crash is still under investigation and investigators ask that anyone who may have witnessed the actions of the involved vehicle, a white Mini Cooper while east bound on Simcoe County Road 27 prior to the crash or of the crash itself or has dashcam video to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or [email protected].

Jasmine SHAWANDA – Impaired Driving

(SUDBURY, ON) – One person was arrested and charged for impaired driving after a traffic complaint was reported to police.

On March 15, 2024, shortly after 5:00 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

The vehicle was located by police and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jasmine SHAWANDA, 37 years-of-age, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation
  • Novice driver – presence of drug

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 17, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

William LABELLE – Impaired Driving

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a driver with impaired driving.

On March 13, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP received a report of a vehicle that was stopped, blocking the intersection of Dundas Street West and Richmond Park Drive, in Napanee. Reporting that the lone driver of the vehicle was passed out. Police attended the scene and Paramedic Services were already on scene checking the driver. Police arrested the driver for impaired driving.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged William LABELLE, age 43, of Deseronto, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 2, 2024. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Stephanie MARTIN & Troy BOLGER Arrested – Details Released

(KALADAR, ON) – Officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people thanks to an alert citizen reporting a suspicious vehicle.

On March 12, 2024, shortly after 10:00 a.m., officers from the L&A County OPP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind the Kaladar gas station at Highway 7 and County Road 41 with two people slumped over inside. Police attended to check on the welfare of the people and located the vehicle running with two people slumped over inside. Police spoke with the two people in the vehicle and observed drug paraphernalia and drugs in plain view. Police arrested and searched the two individuals and the vehicle. Police located several small containers of suspected fentanyl, one container of suspected oxycotin pills, several knifes, one being a prohibited butterfly knife, an airsoft handgun, and suspected fraudulent bank cards. The passenger of the vehicle was transported to hospital by Paramedic Services for a medical assessment and the driver was taken back to the police detachment for further testing.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Stephanie MARTIN, age 45, of Pembroke, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid – two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – two counts
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Drive while under suspension

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Troy BOLGER, age 35, of Laurentian Valley Township, with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid – two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – three counts
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose

Both accused was held for a bail hearing and later released. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on a later date.
