More Impaired Drivers: Kevin HOLLAND & Benjamin WOODWARD

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 35 over the weekend. Through investigation the driver was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving offences.

Kevin HOLLAND, 40-year-old from Dunsford was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

Another traffic complaint over the weekend on County Road 121 just north of Fenelon Falls resulted in Benjamin WOODWARD 40-years-old from Fenelon Falls being arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges the drivers received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Michael McEachern – Impaired Driving

(NIPIGON, ON) – A traffic complaint on Highway 17 near Nipigon has resulted in one driver from Burlington charged with Impaired Driving.

On August 1, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., members of the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a call for service about a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 near Nipigon. Nipigon OPP members patrolled and subsequently located the vehicle shortly thereafter.

Officers spoke to the driver and determined that the driver was impaired by drug. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Nipigon Hospital Detachment for further testing. It was also determined that the driver had been previously bound by an undertaking and was in breach of his conditions.

Michael McEachern, 27-years-old, of Burlington is now charged with Impaired Operation and Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other than to Attend Court.

The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon at a later date.

Michael MIREAULT – Impaired Driving

(MACHIN, ON) – Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Dryden OPP Detachment, arrested and charged one individual with impaired operation and possession of unmarked cigarettes.  

On July 25,2024, at approximately10:30 p.m., officers completed a traffic stop of vehicle closely resembling an overdue motorist report. It turned out not to be the overdue motorist, investigation determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and drug and was in possession of unmarked cigarettes. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Michael MIREAULT, 47-years-old, of Vermilion Bay, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Possess Unmarked Cigarettes

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on September 16, 2024.

Timothy SMUCK – Impaired Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – A driver was arrested after police conducted a traffic stop on Richert Road, near Kohler.

On July 28, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., while on patrol, a member of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle operating in an erratic manner.

A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver had consumed alcohol.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the OPP detachment for testing.

As a result of the investigation, 45-year-old Timothy SMUCK of Jarvis has been charged with the following offences:

·      Operation While Impaired

·      Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on September 3, 2024.

Gregory COMTOIS – Impaired Driving

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – Officers the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person with impaired operation.

On July 27, 2024, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a member of the public reported a single-vehicle collision where a pick-up truck had rolled on 10th Line West in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The driver had exited the vehicle and was walking away from the location.

Police located the individual nearby and injuries were described as minor. There were no passengers. During the investigation, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The accused was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.

Gregory COMTOIS, 40-years-old, from Trent Hills, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute. 

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. James KEMMETT – Impaired Driving

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male driver after conducting a traffic stop.

On July 24, 2025, just after midnight, officers from the Dufferin County OPP were on patrol in the area of Highway 10 and First Street, in the Town of Mono. A motor vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and was subsequently stopped. During a brief interaction police were led to a impaired driving investigation which resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old male.

As a result, James KEMMETT a 35-year-old of Thornbury has been charged with:

·      Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Adult Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted limit

Christopher LEDUC – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male driver after conducting a traffic stop.

On July 25, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., officers of the Orillia OPP were on patrol in the area of Coldwater Rd and Emily St. in the City of Orillia when a motor vehicle was observed with its high beams on approaching police. As a result, police conducted a traffic stop observing the vehicle hit the right-side curb. Through investigation and speaking with the male driver, police determined the driver was impaired and, on a suspension, not to drive for the last 21 years.

As a result, Christopher LEDUC 46-year-old, of Victoria Harbour has been charged with:

  • ·      Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • ·      Adult Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • ·      Adult Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

Michael LESSARD – Impaired Driving, Meth, ETc.

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a person with multiple offences.

On July 23, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Oliver Side Road near County Road 1 West in Greater Napanee. It was reported that a vehicle had been parked in a live lane, running, for an extended period of time. Officers responded and located the vehicle and driver. Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. As part of the investigation, a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer was utilized.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle to have been stolen. A baton and a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was also seized.

As a result, Michael LESSARD, age 40, of Napanee was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code – 17 counts
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two more people with impaired driving offences after investigating two separate driving incidents.

On July 23, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. while on patrol on Muskoka Road 118 in Muskoka Lakes Township, a Bracebridge OPP officer conducted a traffic stop after observing the concerning driving behaviour of a person operating a Porche. Police have arrested and charged 32-year-old William GOULD of Toronto, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 10, 2024 to answer to his charges.

Later in the day, July 23, 2024, Bracebridge OPP officers were following up on reports from members of the community about a possible impaired driver in the area of Muskoka Beach Road in Gravenhurst and at 8:00 p.m. noticed a person operating an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on the roadway without a helmet. Officers conducted a traffic stop and soon entered into an impaired driving investigation. Police arrested and charged 33-year-old Kristopher KERRIGAN of Gravenhurst, ON with Impaired Operation- Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b) along with two Off Road Vehicle Act offenses. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2024 to answer to his charges.

Drivers who are charged with impaired driving offenses also suffer an immediate 90-day drivers licence suspension and have their vehicle impounded.

Christopher DANDO – Impaired Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTYON) – One individual is facing several charges following a collision.

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Haldimand Highway 54 near Sims Locks.

No injuries were reported.

Upon speaking with the occupants, it was determined that one of the drivers had consumed alcohol and was subsequently taken into custody.

The accused was transported to the OPP detachment for testing.

As a result, 19-year-old Christopher DANDO of Milton was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on September 3, 2024

Walter MICHIELSENS – Impaired Driving

(LAMBTON SHORES, ON) – Multiple traffic complaints in Lambton Shores has led to the arrest of an impaired driver.

On July 21, 2024, just after 1:00 p.m., a member of Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was made aware of multiple traffic complaints of a vehicle being operated on Lakeshore Road, Municipality of Lambton Shores. Shortly thereafter, police located the vehicle and driver.

As a result of the investigation, Walter MICHIELSENS, 55-year-old of Grand Bend, was charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with the following:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 10, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

More Impaired Drivers – Names Released

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Two people arrested for impaired driving All-Terrain-Vehicles (ATV).

On July 21, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle collision.

Through investigation, a group of ATV’s were travelling on Hemlock Road, Nipissing Township and one ATV was involved in a single vehicle collision. As a result, two separate operators face charges.

One driver, Gregory FOLLETT, 56 years-of-age of Powassan was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired, alcohol or drugs

The other driver, Robert TRAHAN, 62 years-of-age of North Bay was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired, blood, alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driver – no helmet or improper helmet

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Some proactive traffic enforcement paid off for the Fort Frances Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) when two impaired drivers were located on back-to-back night shifts.   

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 1:30 am, an OPP officer in Fort Frances stopped a vehicle for a red-light violation on Second Street East. The officer determined that the driver was obviously impaired and took him into custody.

On July 21, 2024, at approximately 1:20 am, the same officer in Fort Frances stopped a vehicle after it was observed to be swerving within the lane in the Fernette Avenue area. The officer determined the driver had been drinking and administered a roadside test. The driver registered a fail and was secured in custody.

Both subjects underwent breath alcohol testing at the Fort Frances Detachment before being released by police. Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

William Flemming SMITH 26-years-old from Thunder Bay was charged criminally with impaired operation alcohol or drug, and impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. Offence notices were also issued for the red-light violation and an open liquor violation. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on August 19, 2024, to answer to the criminal charges.

Richard LAMONT 20-years-old from Thunder Bay was charged criminally with impaired operation alcohol or drug, and impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. An offence notice was also issued for the novice driver alcohol violation. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on September 16, 2024, to answer to the criminal charges.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – Two driving incidents in the Midland and Tiny Township area’s over the past weekend have resulted in two area residents being charged with criminal driving offences.

A 911 call at approximately 5:42 p.m. July 21, 2024, to the OPP Communication Centre resulted in officers attending a Perkinsfield residence, while there the officers received a report of an vehicle being operated in an erratic manner and shortly after a vehicle matching the provided description drove by, then returned and parked in an aggressive manner at the officers location. Officers spoke with the vehicle operator and entered into a drinking and driving investigation.

As a result Brittany SUGDEN 40 years of Tiny Township has been charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 8, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 12:14 p.m. officers responded to a report of parked car facing west bound on Scott Street Midland being struck by another vehicle also travelling west bound. Attending officers spoke with witnesses and the driver and entered into a impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation Heide Lailonnie HANSEN 53 years of Midland has been charged criminally with the following driving offence.

  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 1, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Mathieu BLANCHETTE – Impaired Driving

(MATHESON, ON) – The driver of a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) has been charged with impaired driving.

On July 16, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 572, Hislop Township,  when the CMV was stopped.

As a result of the investigation, Mathieu BLANCHETTE, 47 years-old, of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Drive-hand held communication device

The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the CMV was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2024, in Timmins.
