Sonya DEERING – Impaired Driving

(NORTH BAY, ON) – One driver charged for Impaired Operation.

On October 15, 2024, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Highway 11, North Bay. A single white sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a driver and three young occupants had left the roadway causing a roll over.

Through investigation, the driver of the automobile was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing.

Sonya DEERING, 34 years-of-age of North Bay was charged with several offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) the Criminal Code (CC) and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA):

  • Operation while impaired – drug
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Drive while under suspension
  • Careless driving
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

Fortunately, all occupants were safe.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on October 21, 2024.

Darcy EDISON Was Arrested

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual with impaired operation.  

On October 19, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m. the Thunder Bay Provincial Communications Centre received a crash notification from a cell phone on Highway 17.

Members from the Sioux Lookout OPP as well as members from the Dryden OPP detachment responded to the alert. The vehicle was located driving on Highway 17 by Dryden OPP.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol/drug. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden detachment OPP Detachment for further testing.

Darcy EDISON, 42-years-old, of Dryden, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·         Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·         Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·         Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden at a later date.

Nancy PERRY – Impaired Driving

(ST. CLAIR, ON) – On October 17, 2024, at approximately 7:25 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 40 at Courtright Line, St. Clair Township.

As a result of the investigation, Nancy PERRY, 67-year-old of Sombra, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
  • Drive without proper headlights – motor vehicle
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on November 27, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Jonah Sandford MIXEMONG – Impaired Driving

(MIDLAND,ON) – Observations by a community member of a driver appearing to be in an impaired physical state in a vehicle at a Bay Street Midland restaurant, resulted in the dispatch of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with County of Simcoe Paramedic Services at approximately 3:06 p.m. October 15, 2024.

Attending officers located the suspect vehicle and upon speaking with the driver entered into an impaired driving investigation. Scene investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drugs believed the be fentanyl.

As a result of these investigations with the assistance of an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer, the driver Jonah Sandford MIXEMONG 30 years of Christian Island has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

And Further

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 31, 2024

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Three area residents are facing Criminal Code (CC) impaired driving charges after separate incidents in the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment area.

On the afternoon of October 11, 2024, members of the UOV OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the City of Pembroke. Officers located the driver and vehicle parked on Trafalgar Road in Pembroke. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment. 

As a result of this investigation 29-year-old Justin HUNT of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with the following CC and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Use plate not authorized for vehicle

·        Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 19, 2024. 

On October 15, 2024, just before 3:30 a.m., officers from the UOV OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision in the Town of Petawawa after an SUV struck an unoccupied

parked car on Herman Street. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the SUV, was not injured. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment. Suspected cocaine, a scale, cell phones and a quantity of cannabis were seized during the course of the investigation.   

As a result of this investigation 50-year-old Bart MACINTOSH of Petawawa has been charged with the following CC, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Cannabis Act (CA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 19, 2024. 

On October 15, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the UOV OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Forest Lea Road in Laurentian Valley Township after a pickup truck left the roadway, entered the ditch and struck a tree. The driver, who was the lone occupant, was not injured. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for testing. 

As a result of this investigation 24-year-old Conner FERGUSON of Petawawa has been charged with the following CC and Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 26, 2024.

Richard REDFORD – Impaired Driving

(AMARANTH, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Orangeville resident with impaired operation related offences as the result of a motor vehicle collision.

On October 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers were dispatched to the area of County Road 12 in the Township of Amaranth for a single motor vehicle collision. Officers arrived on scene and located a motor vehicle in the ditch with no driver in sight along with a damaged hydro pole. After a brief search of the area, officers located a male hiding in a nearby ditch and were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

Richard REDFORD, a 44-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

(ESSEX COUNTY, ON) – The Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested nine drivers with alcohol related driving offences over the Thanksgiving weekend.

 On Friday October 11, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Elias HILDEBRAND, 21 years-of-age, of Leamington, was spoken to on Bennie Ave. in the Municipality of Leamington, has been charged with:

·                Dangerous Operation

·                Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on October 23, 2024, to answer to the charges.

On Monday October 14, 2024, at approximately 6:22 p.m., Robert WICKETT, 55 years-of-age, of Kingsville, was spoken to on Cherry Ave in the Municipality of Leamington, has been charged with:

·                Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on November 1, 2024, to answer to the charge.

All drivers received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

29 Year Old From Harriston Arrested

(MINTO, ON) On October 12, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Wellington County OPP attended a collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and a parked motor vehicle on Queen Street South, Harriston.

As a result of the investigation, Austin B. ORBAN FOURNIER, 29-years-old of Harriston, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While under Suspension contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Driving While under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act x 2
  • Fail to Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

(MIDLAND,ON) – Observations by a community member of two persons appearing to be unconscious in a vehicle behind the Mountain View Mall, Midland resulted in the dispatch of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at approximately 2:28 p.m. October 11, 2024.

  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 31, 2024

Richard FAIRBAIRN – Impaired Driving

(MONO, ON) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an Orangeville resident with impaired operation related offences after they were involved in a motor vehicle collision (MVC).

On September 8, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a MVC in the area of County Road 10 and Blindline in the Town of Mono. Police arrived on scene and were quickly led into an impaired driving investigation. 

Richard FAIRBAIRN, 50-year-old male, from Orangeville has been charged with:

•      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville, to answer to the charges at a later date. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for a period of 7 days.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(MIDLAND,ON) – An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program on Highway 12, Midland on the evening of October 7, 2024 led officers from “D platoon of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. into two impaired driving investigations only several minutes apart.

Officers at the R.I.D.E. program set up between Wye Valley Road and Franke Kindred Road observed a white Honda bearing Ontario registration CXYP304 while on it’s approach turnoff onto Wye Valley Road at approximately 11:19 p.m. October 7, 2024. An officer immediately located and stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Melody Faith GAUTHIER 23 years of Midland has been charged criminally with the following driving offence.

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A few minutes later at approximately 11:22 p.m. R.I.D.E. program officers arrested the driver of a Ford Edge with registration Ontario BZNP576. While conducting the at scene part of the impaired driving investigation, an open bottle of liquor was seized from the interior of the vehicle.

As a result, William STANLEY 64 years of Port McNicoll has been charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And further with

  • Driving Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act

The accused persons were released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 24, 2024 and was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension along with a 7-day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

In the interest of increasing road safety, detachment officers conducted twelve separate R.I.D.E. programs during October 4-7, 2024 checking over 220 vehicles nabbing two impaired drivers and conducted four roadside screening tests.

Lee LEVEILLE – Impaired Driving

(ST. CLAIR, ON) – Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an impaired driver at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On October 6, 2024, shortly after 8:50 p.m., members of Lambton County OPP conducted a traffic stop to check sobriety of the driver at a RIDE checkpoint on Kimball Road, St. Clair Township.

As a result of the investigation, Lee LEVEILLE, 64-year-old of Wallaceburg, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and the Cannabis Control Act with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on November 5, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Nickolas ELLIOTT – Impaired Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with criminal offences following a traffic complaint in the Municipality of South Huron on September 27, 2024. 

In the early morning hours of September 27, 2024, Huron County OPP were contacted about a suspicious vehicle and occupants. Police located the vehicle in a parking lot and made contact with the vehicle occupants. The officer arrested the driver for impaired operation.

Nickolas ELLIOTT, 33 years-of-age from Huron East has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs,

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused’ driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 28 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

4 More Impaired Drivers

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four drivers with impaired operation during this past weekend in the Town of Caledon.

Between October 4 and October 6, 2024, four drivers from four separate incidents were arrested and charged with impaired operation. In all instances, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

On October 4, 2024, just after 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Brookstone Court. Officers located the vehicle and began their investigation.

As a result, Manbir RAHAL, 49, of Brampton, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

On October 5, 2024, just after 6:00 p.m., officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Mayfield Road, near Coleraine Drive. No injuries were reported.  

As a result of the investigation, Kulwinder JOHAL, 44, of Mississauga, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

Both drivers above are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 24, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Later that same day, just after 8:30 p.m., officers responded a traffic complaint in the area of Mayfield Road and Kennedy Road. The vehicle was described as driving in a dangerous manner and causing collisions. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident. Officers located the vehicle and began their investigation.

As a result, Gurpreet DHILLON, 38, of Caledon, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

• Dangerous operation

Lastly, on October 6, 2024, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Caledon OPP responded to a report of a vehicle stopped on Olde Base Line Road, near Highway 10. Officers located the vehicle and began their investigation. 

As a result, AMANDEEP SINGH, 27, of Caledon

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

The last two drivers above are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 31, 2024, to answer to the charges.

The four driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles were impounded for seven.

The OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers. This year (up to September 10, 2024), Caledon OPP investigated to a total of 117 impaired operation occurrences. Too many drivers are continuing to take unnecessary risks on our roads. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
