Male assaults two officers

On May 23, 2014 at 2:20 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a College Avenue residence after receiving several non-emergency 911 calls. Police spoke with the male resident who became confrontational and assaulted one officer. The male was arrested and taken to the Guelph Police station. While at the station, the male kicked another officer while he was being searched. Neither officer required medical attention.

A 45-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of assault police. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 23, 2014.

Knife call leads to arrest

On May 23, 2014 at 2:39 a.m., the Guelph Police Tactics and Rescue unit (TRU) went to the area of Wellington Street and Gordon Street after receiving the report that a male just assaulted another male with a knife. TRU locate him a short distance away and he was arrested. A search subsequent to his arrest discovered a folding style knife and a quantity of marihuana.

A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and possession for the purpose of trafficking (CDSA). He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 23, 2014.

Guelph Police canine teams place high in competitions

Guelph Police canine teams Neil Moulton and Nitro and Andrew Crowe and Charger recently participated in the United States Police Association PD2 competition. Fifty-five teams took part in the competitions, which included the categories narcotics, explosives, cadaver and tracking. Neil and Nitro placed first place in explosives and sixth place in tracking. Andrew and Charger placed sixth place in narcotics.

The Guelph Police are proud of these accomplishments, which prove that GPS canine teams are top dogs.

Break and enter

On May 21, 2014 at 9:01 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a business at 10 Woodlawn Road East to investigate a break and enter. Culprit(s) broke into one trailer and attempted to access a second trailer sometime overnight. No theft is reported in this incident.

Break and enter

On May 21, 2014 at 9:46 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the new subdivision at Starwood and Eastview to investigate a break and enter. Culprit(s) broke into a trailer by cutting off the lock sometime overnight. A theft of several thousand dollars’ worth of tools is reported.

Vehicle strikes gas meter

On May 21, 2014 at 7:26 p.m., the Guelph Police, Guelph Fire and Union Gas all responded to a residence on Victoria Road after a vehicle struck the gas meter to the home. The line was capped quickly by Union Gas and no further issues or damage resulted from this incident.

James Kelly – Drunk Driving

On May 21, 2014 at 7:56 p.m., the Guelph Police received a report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle and driver were located a short time later outside a Hadati Road residence. Police determined the male was impaired and he was arrested.

James Kelly, 70 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 10, 2014.

Stolen bikes – male arrested

On May 22, 2014 at 4:52 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the area of Westwood Road and Silvercreek Parkway after receiving a report of a male riding a bicycle while pulling a second bicycle alongside him as he rode. Police located the male as short time later, it was determined that the bikes were stolen and he was arrested.

A 19-year-old Guelph male has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Assault in store public assistance sought

On May 20, 2014 at 9:42 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the No Frills located at 191 Silvercreek Parkway North regarding a possible domestic assault that occurred in the store. Police were called after it was observed by a member of the public that a male struck a female and then spit on her. It was unknown if the two left the area on foot or in a vehicle.

Police viewed video surveillance that confirmed the alleged acts. The entire incident took place inside the store in the presence of numerous people.

The male is described as possibly Asian, 35-50 years, black hair, glasses, average height and build, and wearing a blue wind-breaker style jacket with a white horizontal stripe on the back, a horizontal striped shirt with a white t-shirt underneath.

The female is described as possibly Asian, 35-50 years, shoulder length straight black hair, glasses, short, medium build and dressed in all black clothing.

Police were unable to locate the two at that time. Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the male and female.

Male arrested assault cause bodily harm

On May 20, 2014 at 6:23 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an Edinburgh Road South residence to investigate an assault complaint. It is alleged that a verbal argument between two male roommates turned physical when one began to punch the other. These punches caused a cut above the left eye of the victim. Police arrested the assaultive male at the scene.

Young SOHN, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with assault cause bodily harm. He will appear in court on July 4, 2014.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received two reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Paisley Street and Cardigan Street.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle. ATM stolen

The Guelph Police are investigating the theft of a truck and ATM that occurred in the early morning hours of May 18, 2014. Two suspects went to the south end of Guelph, broke into and stole a pickup truck. They then took the stolen pickup truck to an ATM vestibule, where they used the truck to rip the ATM machine from the wall. Police located and recovered the stolen vehicle a short time later close to the theft location.

The suspects are described as:

Male, white, 5’9”, wearing a black checkered jacket and beige pants

Male, white, 6’, wearing a grey jacket and black jacket and black pants

Police are asking anyone that was in the area of Southgate Drive and Laird Road at around 4:30 a.m. and noticed something suspicious to contact D/Cst. Chris Probst at 519-824-1212 ext. 7342. Collision

Guelph Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Speedvale and Delhi at 1:30 p.m. on May 19, 2014. The collision involved a white Kia SUV and a silver Honda Accord.

Four break and enters investigated over weekend

1- On May 18, 2014 the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Conroy Crescent residence. Culprit(s) entered by smashing a basement window sometime overnight. A theft has been reported.

2- On May 19, 2014 at 1:46 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Pinnacle Crescent residence. Culprit(s) entered through a rear door sometime on May 18. A theft of cash and electronics has been reported.

3- On May 19, 2014 at 1:47 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at Waverly Drive School. Culprit(s) entered by smashing a window to a classroom. Police located laptops piled inside the entered room and also located laptops and electronic equipment in the school yard. G4S security responding to the alarm is believed to have forced the culprit(s) to vacate quickly.
