Break and enters

On May 29, 2014, the Guelph Police went to two homes on Rodgers Road to investigate break and enters. One home had the screen of a bedroom window removed but no entry was gained and no theft is reported. In the other incident, the garage was entered via an unlocked door and a bicycle was stolen. Both break-ins are believed to have occurred sometime in the previous twenty four hours.

Matthew McMullen – Assault Dog, Threats

On May 28, 2014 at 7:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Huron Street area to investigate the complaint of threats and animal cruelty. Witnesses allege that two men were walking dogs when one of them picked up his dog with both hands around its neck, lifted and shook it. A male confronted him and was threatened. Police were called and an arrest was made. There is no report of any injury to the dog.

Matthew McMullen, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with uttering threats and cause unnecessary suffering to animals. He will appear in court on July 11, 2014.

Break and enter

On May 28, 2014 at 5:55 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Whitelaw Road residence to investigate a break and enter. A side door was damaged to gain entry. There is no theft reported.

Male fails roadside – arrested

On May 29, 2014 at 12:53 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Silvercreek Parkway. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested. The male was then transported to the station to provide breath samples.

Marcus DRISCOLL, 28 years of Moorefield has been charged with fail to provide a breath sample. He will appear in court on June 11, 2014.

Workplace accident

On May 27, 2014 at 6:20 p.m., the Guelph Police, Guelph Fire and Guelph Wellington EMS went to a Southgate Drive business for a workplace accident investigation. A female employee operating a heated press had one of her arms caught inside the machine. Her injury is considered severe and she was airlifted to Hamilton.

The Ministry of Labour was advised and is investigating.

On May 27, 2014 at 8:03 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Humane Society located on Wellington Street West to investigate a break and enter. A front window was smashed sometime overnight and entry gained. There is no theft reported.

Vehicle strikes fire hydrant affecting several homes on Arthur Street

A single motor vehicle collision on Arthur Street on May 23, 2014 caused extensive damage to a motor vehicle and several surrounding homes.

It is alleged that at 10:00 a.m. a 2009 Ford Escape being operated by a 53-year-old London man was travelling on Elizabeth Street, turning onto Arthur Street south. The driver failed to complete this turn, mounting the east curb, and striking a fire hydrant. The hydrant was knocked from the water main sending water onto Arthur Street.

City of Guelph Water Works employees worked quickly to close the main water feed, however a number of adjoining residences sustained water damage.

The driver of the Ford was not injured. Damage to the car and fire hydrant were estimated to be $6,500. A damage assessment of the homes affected by the water was unavailable.

The driver of the Ford is facing a charge of improper turn under the Highway Traffic Act.

William HOY – Drunk Driving

On May 24, 2014 at 2:10 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Wellington Street. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

William HOY, 40 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 10, 2014.

Cory TOSH – Drunk Driving

On May 25, 2014 at 12:03 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle in the area of Malcolm Road and Governors Road. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Cory TOSH, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 13, 2014.

Care and control impaired – arrest

On May 25, 2014 at 1:13 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Grange Road area after receiving a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Police located the parked vehicle and found a male sitting in the driver’s seat with the car running. Police spoke with the driver, determined he was impaired and he was arrested.

Gerald TRIMBLE, 64 years of Guelph has been charged with care/control impaired and care/control over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 20, 2014.

On May 24, 2014 at 3:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a church located on Ridgewood Avenue to investigate an alarm. Police located a smashed window and then found a male inside the building. The male was arrested for break and enter.

Christopher AUGOT, 20 years of Rockwood has been charged with break and enter and commit, breach recognizance and two counts of breach probation. He will appear in court on June 3, 2014.
