Break and enter

On June 4, 2014 at 7:37 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Marilyn Drive to investigate a break and enter. A construction trailer was entered sometime between June 3 at 8:30 p.m. and June 4 at 6:50 a.m. A theft of construction tools/equipment is reported.

Warrants executed – arrests made

On June 3, 2014, the Guelph Police Drug, Intelligence, Canine and Tactics and Rescue Units executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance warrant and a Criminal Code warrant at a residence on Eramosa Road. Six people were arrested. Two were later released without charges.

Drugs seized included personal use levels of Marihuana and Crystal Methamphetamine. Police also seized a prohibited weapon, and a replica firearm.

April Belcastro, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Amanda Randall, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Angela Wilson, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Ryan Watson, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Cyclist struck

On June 3, 2014 at 9:32 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the area of 139 Grange Street to investigate a cyclist struck by a vehicle. The female cyclist received minor injuries and the driver was charged with turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act.

Theft from cars

Overnight the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Ironwood Road, Pheasant Run and Elmira Road.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle. Police vehicle struck

On May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., a Guelph Police officer in a marked cruiser was stopped at a red light facing northbound on Victoria Road at Stone Road. The cruiser was struck from behind by a 1998 Toyota. The officer was treated at Guelph General Hospital for minor injuries and the driver of the other vehicle, a 47-year-old Guelph male, was charged with careless driving. The police vehicle sustained minor damage and the Toyota sustained extensive damage.

Break and enter

On June 2, 2014 at 12:35 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Queensdale Crescent home to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered by damaging the front door sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The culprit(s) exited through the back door, which would lead to Westacres Drive. The home was ransacked but at the time of this release, it was not known whether a theft had occurred. Investigation discovered a description of a potential person of interest. A white male, late 30’s to early 40’s, blonde hair or shaved head wearing a white T-shirt and blue/green hospital style pants. He was carrying a white pillowcase. This male was last seen in the area of Fife Road and Elmira Road.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Guelph Police and The Guelph Special Olympians Join Together for the 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run in Support of Special Olympics

The 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run takes place on Wednesday June 4th, 2014. The Guelph Police and local law enforcement agencies will be taking to the road, for a 5 k run, commencing at 2:15 p.m.

The run will begin on Highway 6 and Woodlawn Rd., and will involve 85 runners from the Guelph Police, Cooperators, (our community partner) and local Community living agencies. The runners will run south on Woolwich St, to the Cooperators building and then to the police station for a BBQ event sponsored by Pillers. Pillers has also been a longtime community supporter.

The Guelph Police recognize at times there may be traffic congestion, however we appreciate the community support and patience for this great cause.

Motorcyclist crashes

On June 1, 2014 at 1:10 p.m., the Guelph Police observed a black Yamaha motorcycle on MacDonell Street, lift the front tire off the ground and then accelerate to a high rate of speed. The motorcycle then attempted to pass another motor vehicle in the right turn channel onto Elizabeth Street but crashed into the left hand median. The driver was transported to Guelph General Hospital for minor injuries. Guelph Police had to close the right turn channel onto Elizabeth Street for several hours while they conducted their investigation.

The motorcycle received extensive damages estimated at $12,000.

A 27-year-old Guelph male is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

Fire at 249 Speedvale Ave West

On May 31, 2014 at approximately 3:33 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 249 Speedvale Avenue West. Units from the Guelph Fire Department arrived at the scene of TC Industries and found a small fire located in a paint booth.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. There is minimal damage to the paint booth and surrounding area. All employees were evacuated with no report of injuries to Firefighting personnel.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation.

Also on scene in support were GPD, GWEMS and Union Gas.

Drug investigation, pursuit, search warrant and arrests – update

On May 29, 2014, the Guelph Police Drug unit concluded a lengthy investigation that led to a short pursuit, a search warrant executed in Puslinch and three arrests. Police were still seeking the male suspect involved in the pursuit.

On May 30, 2014, Pierre THIBAULT, 43 years of Puslinch was arrested and has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving and five counts of possessing a firearm/weapon contrary to prohibition order. He is also charged with fail to stop for police and escape by flight under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on June 2, 2014.

Alexander Pereira – Drunk Driving

On June 1, 2014 at 1:12 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle in the area of the Hanlon Expressway and Paisley Road. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Alexander Pereira, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 20, 2014.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Speedvale Avenue East, Chancellors Way, Schiedel Drive, Norwich Street, Victoria Road North, Waxwing Crescent and Weir Drive.

Drug investigation, pursuit, search warrant and arrests

In January 2014, the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit commenced an investigation into the trafficking of controlled substances within the City of Guelph.

During the investigation, police made observations consistent with drug transactions and on May 29, 2014 the Drug Unit attempted to place one male under arrest however he fled from police in his vehicle. A short time later he was again observed and a marked cruiser was utilized to attempt a traffic stop however he fled again to avoid being stopped. For public safety and those involved in the pursuit police disengaged.

The Guelph Police Drug Unit applied for and were granted a CDSA search warrant for 7676 Wellington Road 34, Puslinch. As a result, three persons were placed under arrest. Police located the following items during the search: cocaine, marihuana, MDMA and prescription medication. Police also seized two 12 gauge shotguns, a bolt-action 22 and a Cooey 22 as well as ammunition.

Richard GUITARD, 50 years, Deedra GUITARD, 47 years and Ryan GUITARD, 23 years all of Puslinch were arrested. The three have been jointly charged with possession CDSA – marihuana, possession CDSA – cocaine, possession for the purpose CDSA – MDMA, four counts of firearm unauthorized possession, two counts of storage of a firearm contrary to regulations, two counts of careless storage and possession of a prohibited weapon. They will appear in court on July 15, 2014.

The original male suspect is still being sought by police for the charges: two counts of dangerous driving and five counts of possessing a firearm/weapon contrary to prohibition order. He also faces the charges of fail to stop for police and escape by flight under the Highway Traffic Act.

Car/Motorcycle collision

On May 29, 2014 at 2:12 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Wellington Street between Gordon Street and Wyndham Street for a collision involving a motorcycle and car. It is alleged that the car, driven by a 77-year-old female turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle, driven by a 23-year-old male struck the car causing the rider to eject from his bike. Speeds are not a factor in this incident. The rider was taken to hospital with serious soft tissue (no broken bones) injuries that are non-life threatening. The investigation is ongoing.
