Sunny AULAKH – Drunk Driving

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On October 11, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Main Street, Erin.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety. As a result of the investigation, Sunny AULAKH, 27 years-old of Erin, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Head On Collision Results In Arrest Of Kyle BATES

(Kashabowie, ON) – A driver was charged criminally following a head-on collision between a pick-up truck and a passenger car that occurred on Highway 11 west of Kashabowie.

On October 10, 2024, at approximately 7:30 pm, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from Atikokan and Shabaqua responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred on Highway 11 near Huronian Lake. One vehicle passenger was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed the at-fault driver crossed into oncoming traffic and was impaired by drug. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to a Drug Recognition Expert in Atikokan where additional testing was completed by way of demand.

Kyle BATES, 36-years-old from Atikokan is charged criminally with one count of impaired operation drug or alcohol, and one count of dangerous operation. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Thunder Bay Ontario Court of Justice on November 27, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Drug-involved collisions have been steadily increasing and have more than doubled over the past five years. While we have more officers trained and equipped to detect drug impairment in drivers, we continue to encourage Ontarians to report drivers they suspect of being impaired, be it alcohol, or any type of drug.

Jeremy LAMB – Drunk Driving

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one driver with an impaired driving related offense today in a school zone.

On October 11, 2024, shortly before noon, at 11:05 a.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting patrol in a school zone on Wellington Street in Bracebridge and stopped a vehicle near Armstrong Street. As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged 45-year-old Jeremy LAMB of Utterson, ON with Operation While Impaired-Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on November 26, 2024 to answer to his charge.

Jersey JOHNSON – Drunk Driving

(HEARST, ON) – A traffic stop led to an impaired driving arrest in Hearst.

On October 10, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop George Street in Hearst, for a highway traffic act infraction.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jersey JOHNSON, 20 years of age of Greenstone, was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

·        Drive motor vehicle – no licence

·        Fail to yield to traffic

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 18, 2024, in Hearst. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Mahmood KASAEI – Drunk Driving

(SOUTHWOLD, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a two-vehicle collision investigation.

On October 10, 2024, at approximately 6:05 p.m., emergency services including Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Elgin OPP responded to a “rear-end” collision involving two passenger vehicles on the eastbound Highway 401 near the 169 KM-marker, Township of Southwold.

No serious injuries were reported by any of the individuals involved.

As a result of the investigation, Mahmood KASAEI, a 40-year-old from Thornhill was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on November 12, 2024.

Rahul Dhamankar – Drunk Driving

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 9, 2024, at 5:55 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP received a traffic complaint of an impaired driver on Highway 6 near Limberlost Road in South Bruce Peninsula.

The police located the vehicle and observed it travelling over the posted 80km/hr speed limit. As a result of the investigation Rahul Dhamankar, 39-year-old of Mississauga was charged with the following:

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed

·      Speeding – 130km/h in posted 80km/h zone

·      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while Impaired – BAC 80 plus

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 24, 2024.

If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. The OPP relies on the public to report crime. Impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently.

Georgia Van Luven – Drunk Driving

(Kingston, ON) – A driver was arrested for impaired driving, after a single vehicle collision on the 401 Highway in Kingston.

On October 09, 2024, just after 10:00 pm, Frontenac Detachment members responded to a single vehicle collision that happened when a vehicle attempted to exit the 401 Highway at Montreal Street, going east and heading into the City. The vehicle failed to make the turn and struck a guardrail, blocking the off-ramp completely. There were no injuries as a result.

Several witnesses called Police to report the collision. Officers arrived and determined that the driver was impaired. The female driver was arrested and taken to the detachment for further breath testing.

Georgia Van Luven, age 30 from Kingston, has been charged with:

·      operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

·      operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The driver was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on November 26, 2024. They also had their drivers license suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

The OPP would like to remind people that Impaired Driving is a serious threat to public safety. Highway safety is a team sport, do your part and plan a safe ride home.

Charles MACMILLAN – Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF HAMILTON, ON) – Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation and stunt driving.

On October 9, 2024, at approximately 11:25 p.m., OPP were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton. An officer observed a passenger vehicle travelling at a speed of 167 Km/h in a posted 110 Km/h speed limit.

The vehicle was stopped and following speaking to the driver, police made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resiling in a fail at which point they were arrested.

Charles MACMILLAN, 56-years-old, from Toronto, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. Their driver’s licence was also suspended for a period of 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven.

The OPP is committed to reducing and preventing injuries on roads, highways, waterways, and trails, while enhancing safety for motorists and all other road users through public education and enforcement.

Ian ZONDERVAN – Drunk Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid Criminal charges after reports of a possible impaired driver from a community member near Peter St. N and Missisauga St E in the City of Orillia. Police received information that a male was trying to get on his motorcycle while showing signs of being impaired.

Police immediately attended and patrolled the area. After patrolling the area, police were able to locate a male on a motorcycle matching the description provided by the concerned citizen.  A traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted numerous signs of the driver being intoxicated by alcohol and entered an impaired driving investigation. The male driver under arrest, the male was taken to a local Detachment where it was determined that he was impaired and registered three times the legal limit.

Ian ZONDERVAN, 38-year-old of East York, ON was charged with:

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus

Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 14-days.

Gary CARMICHAEL – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on October 9, 2024, following a traffic complaint in Mariposa Township.

On October 9, 2024, at approximately 2:03 p.m., officers responded to Grant Drive, Mariposa Township, for a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver. Officers attended the area and located the vehicle. Through investigation the driver was arrested for Impaired Driving Offences.  

Gary CARMICHAEL, 69-year-old of Lindsay, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.

Spencer HEIL – Drunk Driving

(CORUNNA, ON) – On October 8, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Lyndoch Street and Fieldstone Avenue in Corunna.

As a result of the investigation, Spencer HEIL, 30-year-old of Sarnia, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor Licence and Control Act with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Sarnia on October 28, 2024, to speak to the charges.

3 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three drivers with numerous offences.

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP stopped an ATV on Renfrew Avenue East in the Town of Renfrew.

As a result of the investigation, Patrick Sandford REES, age 41 of Renfrew, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Novice driver- B.A.C. above zero

·      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 27, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

On October 6, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 132 in the Township of Admaston-Bromley.  Two people were transported to hospital for minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Benjamin Timothy REYNOLDS, age 43 of Burnstown, was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

On October 6, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a family dispute in Bonnechere Valley Township. One person left the scene and was later located by police.

As a result of the investigation, Timothy Ryan GALLAGHAR, age 39 of Pembroke, was charged with:

·      Operation while prohibited under the criminal code

·      Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 6, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

Ditch Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Paisley-area resident with an Impaired driving offence following a single-vehicle-collision on October 6th, 2024, in the Municipality of Central Huron. 

Just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, Huron County OPP responded to a report of a vehicle on its side in a ditch with the driver still inside the vehicle.  Police attended Bayfield Road near Airport Line and located the driver who was subsequently arrested for impaired operation. The driver was not injured.

The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Emily GOLEM, 32 years of age from Paisley, Arran-Elderslie has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act for careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with no permit.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on November 4th, 2024.

3 More Impaired Drivers

(CORNWALL, ON) -The Stormont Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three motorists with impaired driving. 

On September 6, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., SD&G officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Vincent Massey Crescent in the city of Cornwall. Further Investigation led to the driver being arrested.       

Meagan HAMILL, aged 34, of South Stormont, was charged with:

•             Operation while impaired – alcohol

•             Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•             Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on October 22, 2024.

On October 6, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., SD&G officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically on County Road 2 in South Glengarry Township.     

Evelyn, LINDHORST aged 72, of South Glengarry, was charged with:

•     Operation while impaired – alcohol

•     Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on November 6, 2024.

On October 6, 2024, shortly before 3:30 a.m., SD&G officers responded to a single vehicle collision vehicle on County Road 22 in North Stormont Township. 

Owen MEKKER aged 18, of North Stormont, was charged with:

•     Operation while impaired – alcohol

•     Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•     Failure to stop after accident

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on October 31, 2024.

                            STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE RECOVERED

(SOUTH DUNDAS, ON) – Members of the Stormont, Dundas (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered a stolen vehicle on highway 401, South Dundas township.

On, October 7, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers from SD&G, received information about a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on highway 401 in the South Dundas Township. The vehicle was later observed and subsequently stopped without incident. The 2023 Corvette was stolen from the GTA.

Yakoud Nedjmeddine BENBELKACEM, 21-years-old from Montreal Quebec and Younes JADOIL, 18-years-old from Longueuil Quebec, were charged with:

•     Theft of Motor Vehicle

•     Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Both accused remains in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on a later date.

Taylor Tims – Drunk Driving

(THE NATION, ON) – Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a motorist for stunt driving and a second motorist for stunt driving and operation while impaired.

On October 07, 2024, shortly after 11:30 p.m., officers on Highway 417 in The Nation were conducting LIDAR enforcement when they observed a vehicle travelling 173km/h in a 110km/h zone. The vehicle was passed by a second car travelling 184km/h. Both vehicles were stopped for stunt driving. During the investigation an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used on the driver who was travelling at 184km/h. The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Taylor Tims, from Russell Township, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol CC
  • Stunt Driving HTA

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their car was impounded for 14 days. They are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on November 6.

The second driver, a 30-year-old, from Barrie, Ontario, was charged under the HTA with:

  • Stunt Driving HTA

The second accused had their licence suspended for 30 days and their vehicle impounded for 14 days and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court in L’Orignal on December 5.
