Sean Richardson – Impaired Driving, Drive While Suspended

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on March 23, 2024.

On March 23, 2024 at approximately 7:50 am, officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 7 in Emily Township. An impaired driving investigation commenced.

Sean Richardson 38 years old of Coboconk was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Driving while under Suspension

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.

Fahad HANIF Arrested Following Collision

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual involved in a collision with numerous offences.

On March 19, 2024, just before 12:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Mayfield Road, near Kennedy Road, in the Town of Caledon. One driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries. During the course of the investigation, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Fahad HANIF, 31, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 4, 2024, to answer to the charges. Additionally, the driver’s vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

The OPP remains committed to keeping our communities safe through enforcement and public education. Penalties for failure or refusal to comply with demand are the same as those imposed upon a driver charged with impaired operation. These penalties include an immediate 90-day licence suspension, seven-day vehicle impoundment, as well as licence reinstatement fees. Additional penalties are imposed upon conviction and increase for each proceeding offence.

Channin GEORGE – Drunk Driving

(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – Driver charged with impaired operation after vehicle leaves roadway and enters ditch.

On March 23, 2024, at 11:17 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Elijah Road in Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol and was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment.

As a result, Channin GEORGE, a 24-year-old of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

·      Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 21, 2024.

More Drunk Drivers

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid criminal charges in five separate impaired driving investigations between March 16 – 23, 2024 and is asking for the publics help in changing the pattern of drivers continuing to risk safety by choosing to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

On March 16, 2024, at 5:15 p.m. officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Monck Road at Wellington St in Bracebridge. An investigation into the cause of the collision commenced and police arrested and charged 32-year-old Liam RADFORD of Bracebridge, ON with Impaired Operation- Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 9, 2024 to answer to his charge.

On March 17, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint about a possibly impaired driver and located the vehicle in the area of the Torrance Barrens in Muskoka Lakes Twp. Officers subsequently arrested and charged 29-year-old Shannon PREN of Barrie, ON with Impaired Operation -by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a). She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 23, 2024 to answer to her charge.

Later the same day, March 17, 2024 at 6:20 p.m. a member of the public called police to express their concerns about the erratic driving behaviour of a motorist on Highway 11 South in Bracebridge, police located the vehicle a short time later and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, 54-year-old Troy SYLVESTER of Barrie, ON was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 30, 2024 to answer to his charges.

On March 18, 2024 at 11:40 p.m. while officers were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Manitoba Street and Taylor Road in Bracebridge, officers stopped a vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged the driver, 28-year-old Hayleigh BARNES of Bracebridge, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, ON on April 23, 2024 to answer to her charges.

On March 23, 2024 at 5:20 p.m. a member of the public called police to report their concern about a person who had left a commercial parking lot on Ferguson Road in Gravenhurst and then returned to the same parking lot. Bracebridge OPP officers  attended and subsequently arrested and charged 46-year-old Victor GROVES of Huntsville, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 16, 2024 to answer to his charges.

Information from concerned and attentive members of the public is key in efforts to take impaired drivers off the road and create safer driving conditions for everyone. The consequences for impaired driving in the province of Ontario, beyond the criminal charge, includes a 90 day drivers license suspension and a 7 day vehicle impound.

Matthew Wilson – Drunk Driving

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On March 23, 2024, at 7:17 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Grey Road 9 in Southgate. 

Police attended and the driver was transported to hospital for minor injuries. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an ASD which registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician.

Matthew Wilson, 32-years-old of Southgate was charged with:

·    Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·    Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·    Driver fail to surrender licence

·    Careless Driving

·    Drive motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on April 11, 2024.

Roger COMRIE – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Brampton resident with operation while impaired.

On March 16, 2024, just before 10:00 p.m., Caledon OPP received a report from a motorist expressing concern as to how a motor vehicle was being operated. Officers located the vehicle on Highway 10, near Charleston Sideroad, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Roger COMRIE, 61, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 4, 2024, to answer to the charges. Additionally, the driver’s vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

Caledon OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Jagdeep JAGDEEP Arrested

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON) – A traffic stop has resulted in impaired driving charges for one individual. On March 24, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol on Black Road in Sault Ste. Marie, when officers observed a motor vehicle without its headlights activated, and travelling in an unsafe manner.    

A traffic stop was initiated, where investigation determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. A search of the vehicle yielded both sealed and open containers of alcohol. As a result, Jagdeep JAGDEEP, 21 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive without Proper Headlights
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 29, 2024 in Sault Ste. Marie. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

James ALDRIDGE – Drunk Driving

(PENETANGUISHENE,ON) – The driving abilities of a 28-yr-old Penetanguishene resident operating a grey Kia north bound on Main Street, Penetanguishene caught the watchful eye of an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment around 11:55 p.m. March 23, 2024. The officer observed the vehicle go east on Robert Street East and north on Fox Street was able to safely stop the vehicle at Burke Street after observing several driving infractions.

After speaking with the lone driver, the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in James ALDRIDGE being charged criminally in relation to this investigation with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 11, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Detachment officers conducted six Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs over the weekend checking 45 drivers for signs of impairment in their commitment to increasing road safety on area roadways.

HWY 21 Drunk Driver Arrested – Name Released

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – On March 24, 2024, at 8:28 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Bluewater Highway. Police observed a vehicle swerving on the highway and conducted a traffic stop. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an ASD which registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron County OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician.

Wyatt Atkins, 35-years-old of Sarnia was charged with:

·    Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on April 22, 2024.

Another Drunk Driver Runs Red Light – Dwayne YOUNG Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police charged the driver for impaired driving, after the vehicle failed to stop for a red light.

On March 24, 2024, shortly after 12:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Front Street, West Nipissing.

The driver failed to stop for a red light and was stopped by police. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Dwayne YOUNG, 52 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Red light – fail to stop

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – A young driver is facing charges after failing the Approved Screening Device (ASD) in Huron County.

On March 23, 2024, at 4:48 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Summer Hill Road in Central Huron. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an ASD which registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron County OPP Detachment for further tests by a Qualified Breath Technician.

Kalan Geddes, 19-years-old of Huron County was charged with:

·    Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·    Young driver – B..C above zero

·    Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on April 22, 2024.

(SEARCHMONT, ON) – A collision has resulted in impaired driving charges for one individual. On March 19, 2024, shortly before 10:00 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 556 in Vankoughnet Township.   

Through investigation, officers determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, Paul BEDUHN, 45 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 22, 2024 in Sault Ste. Marie. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Richard KOZAK Arrested After Hit & Run and Rollover

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 6:57 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to and investigated a report of a two-vehicle collision on Gunton Drive in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that vehicle leaving a driveway had recently collided with a parked vehicle and then left the scene. No injuries were reported.

Soon after, officers received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Nixon Road in Windham, Norfolk County.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle involved in the rollover was the same one that had fled from the scene of the collision on Gunton Drive a short time earlier.

After evaluating the driver’s sobriety at the scene, the driver was taken into custody without incident. They were later taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 26-year-old Richard KOZAK of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Dangerous operation,
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence,
  • Fail to remain.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Robert DEMERS Arrested – Details Released

(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) – On March 20, 2024, at 10:20 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a motor vehicle exit a licenced establishment on Lyndoch Street and was displaying expired licence plates.  

Upon speaking with a driver, it became apparent they had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to a Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples over the legal limit.

Robert DEMERS, 36-years-old of St. Clair Township, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired and,
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

50 Year Old From St. Marys Arrested – Details Released

(LUCAN BIDDULPH, ON) – Driver charged with Impaired after vehicle leaves roadway and rolls.

On March 21, 2024, at 2:32 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London paramedic Service and local fire were dispatched to Elginfield Road in Lucan Biddulph, for the report of a single vehicle that left the roadway and rolled.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result, Inesha O’HARA a 50-year-old of St. Marys, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 1, 2024.
