Man Charged with Impaired Driving

The Chatham-Kent police have charged a man with impaired driving last night in Ridgetown.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. police received information of an erratic driver in the area of Goodal Drive. Officers located the man who struck a street sign and then got his Ford Ranger pick-up truck stuck in a field. Through investigation, the officer believed that the driver was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. The driver was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests where he registered over three times the legal limit.

The 32-year-old Ridgetown man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. When sober, he will be released pending a future court date.

Man Charged with Trespassing

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for trespassing following an incident in Chatham yesterday morning.

Around 9:00 a.m. an employee of Torbam Electric called police about an unwanted person on their property. The man who drove there was previously trespassed from this Richmond Street business. Officers located the man and through investigation also learned that he was suspended from driving. Richard Williams, 48 years, of Lorne Avenue in Chatham has been charged with trespassing and driving while under suspension. He was released pending a future court date.

Two Men Charged with Possession of Stolen Property

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two men in connection with a theft investigation yesterday in Chatham.

Around noon, a concerned citizen contacted police to report possible suspicious activity. Two men were observed pushing a shopping cart with a large spool of cable wire in the area of Lorne Avenue and Inshes Avenue. Officers located and arrested the men found to be in possession of the stolen Cogeco wire. Upon being searched incident to arrest, one of the men was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

David Valiquette, 28 years, of Linden Street in Chatham has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, drug possession and failing to comply. Preston Campbell, 32 years, of West Street in Chatham has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. Both men were released from custody with conditions pending a future court date.

Daily News Release – Wednesday, May 21, 2014

The Chatham-Kent police responded to 101 calls in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.

Warrant
A 18 year with Chatham male was arrested on the strength of a warrant for theft under after a surety revoking. Held for bail.
A 65 year old Chatham male was arrested on the strength of a warrant after failing to attend court. He was held for bail
A 33 year old Wallaceburg resident was arrested on the strength of a warrant for theft and possession. Held for bail.

B&E’s
Value Village
A trailer behind Value Village was entered after a lock had been cut. A box of clothing was removed. Value approx.. $50.

Residential B&E
A Talbot Trail resident reports that sometime over the weekend their residence had been entered after the front door had been forced. Once inside a quantity of Jewelry was removed. Exact value not known as of yet.

Commercial B&E
A Keil Drive business had the lock cut off a shed. Once inside the culprits removed four radiators from the shed. Value about $100.

Assault with a weapon.
A Blenheim resident was arrested after assaulting another man with a cane. The accused stopped the victim and asked for a light. He was given a cigarette lighter and refused to give it back. The victim advised he would contact the police and was hit over the head with a cane. Kenneth Ronson 60 years old was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear. Minor injuries were sustained.

Mischief

At approximately 12:55 am this morning the Chatham-Kent Police were dispatched to Campers Cove Campground at 21097 Camper’s Cove Rd in Wheatley to investigate a possible stolen golf cart. Upon their arrival they observed the security gate arm to the Campground broken. Investigation revealed a 21 year old Wheatley man was trying to get his golf cart back into the park by manually lifting the security gate, when the arm broke off.

He was subsequently arrested for Mischief Over and released with a future court date.

Public Intoxication

Early this morning at approximately 12:38 am the Chatham-Kent Police were operating a RIDE Program in Wallaceburg and observed a 22 year male walking in the middle of Dufferin Ave. Investigation revealed that the 22 year old had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol and was is no condition to care for himself. The 22 year old was arrested for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act and held until he was sober.

Driver Charged with Multiple Offences

At 11:45 p.m. last night an officer saw a pick-up truck travelling southbound on Lacroix Street in a fast and erratic manner. The officer recorded the vehicle was travelling 82km/h in the 50km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted to investigate the driver. Based on observations made by the officer, a roadside screening test was conducted and the driver provided a sample of breath in the warm range. Further investigation revealed the driver was unlicensed, and the vehicle validation was expired.

A 39-year-old Chatham man has been charged with speeding, driving without a licence, driving a motor vehicle with expired validation, and failing to surrender insurance. He was also issued a 3-day licence suspension for alcohol consumption, and the vehicle was towed from the road.

Recovered Stolen BBQ

At 3:36 a.m. this morning an officer observed male pushing a BBQ down the street in the area of Harvey/Cross Street in Chatham. The officer stopped the male and commenced an investigation. It was confirmed the BBQ was stolen from a house on Jeffrey Street a short time before. The male was arrested and later released with a future court date. The owner was contacted and arrangements were made for the return of his BBQ.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following an incident in Chatham early this morning.

Around 2:30 a.m. police responded to a disturbance on King Street West. Upon the officer’s arrival, a woman reported that around 1:30 a.m. a man, known to her, started kicking her door in an attempt to enter her apartment. The man damaged the door frame and verbally threatened the woman. The man did not gain entry and upon leaving the area, he threw stones at her window, cracking a pane of glass. The 37-year-old woman was not injured.

Just before 3:00 a.m. police located the man and he was arrested. The 45-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with uttering threats and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Stolen Vehicle

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a stolen vehicle in Howard Township.

Sometime between May 11, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. and May 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) stole a 2002 white Lincoln Continental from a residence on Green Line. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario licence plates BSZB 405.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Tilbury

Around 7:45 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Mill Street West.

A 50-year-old Wheatley woman sustained minor injuries. Total damages were estimated at $500.

A 57-year-old North York man was charged with an offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Woman Charged with Assault with a Weapon

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a domestic disturbance in Wallaceburg yesterday.

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. police responded to an assault complaint on Dufferin Avenue. Upon the officer’s arrival, a man reported that he had been punched, kicked, bitten and stabbed in the arm with a small pair of scissors by his common-law girlfriend during an argument. The 23-year-old man required medical attention for the injury to his arm.

Just before 1:00 p.m. police located the woman and she was arrested. The 20-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of assault. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Robbery

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery early this month.

On May 2, 2014 a Chatham man attended the CIBC bank on Richmond Street in Chatham to deposit money. While there, a Raleigh Township man, known to him, approached him for a cigarette. As the man took cigarettes out of his pocket, he also withdrew the envelope containing the cash to be deposited. The Raleigh Township man slapped his hand causing the money to fall to the ground. The Raleigh Township man then pushed the Chatham man, picked up the money, and rode away on the man’s bicycle. The 29-year-old Chatham man was not injured during the incident.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the 32-year-old Raleigh Township man in the area of Prince Street and Kirk Street in Chatham and he was arrested. He has been charged with robbery. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Woman Arrested from CKPS Wanted List

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman on the CKPS Wanted List.

Last night, police located the woman on Woods Street in Chatham. She was arrested on outstanding warrants for theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, break and enter and failing to attend court x3.

The 21-year-old Raleigh Township woman has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Chatham.

Sometime yesterday between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Berry Street and stole electronics valued at $3500 and cash.
