Theft of Wood Carvings

Chatham-Kent Police are investigating the overnight theft of two large wood carvings. Theft took place at Hank’s Country Store located on Communications Road in Chatham between the hours of 8:00 p.m. on the 29th of May and 10:00 a.m. on the 30th of May.

Each carving is approx. 4 foot tall and weighs approx. 200 lbs each. Each carving has a value of $1200.00.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic disturbance early this morning.

Around 12:00 a.m. police responded to a residence in Chatham in regards to an assault complaint. Upon the officer’s arrival, a woman reported that she had been pushed by her common-law during a verbal argument. The dispute escalated when the man threw a cell phone and threatened her. Through investigation, the woman also disclosed a previous incident of domestic assault. The woman did not require medical attention.

Around 12:30 a.m. the man was arrested. The 45-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and two counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Breaching Release Condition

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for failing to comply with his curfew.

On May 28, 2014, the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to abide by a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

On this same date just before midnight, an officer attended the man’s residence and learned that he was not home.

Yesterday afternoon, around 2:00 p.m. officers located the man on Van Crescent in Wallaceburg and he was arrested. The 18-year-old Merlin man has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Harwich Township

Just before 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Talbot Trail between Harwich Road and Mull Road.

Both vehicles were travelling eastbound on Talbot Trail when a man started making a turn into a private driveway while being passed by a vehicle being driven by a Chatham woman. A passenger in the passing vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

The 48-year-old Michigan man was charged with making a turn not in safety.

Youth Charged with Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth in connection with a break and enter earlier this week.

As previously reported, sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, unknown suspect(s) entered a business on Fourth Street. Once inside the suspect(s) stole cash and equipment valued at $1000.

Through investigation, police identified the youth responsible. Officers located the youth yesterday afternoon on Wellington Street and he was arrested.

The 16-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with break and enter. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Disobeys Curfew Condition

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth for breaching his release conditions.

On May 20, 2014 the youth was released from custody with conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to abide by a daily curfew of 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Just before 3:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed the youth in the downtown Chatham area. The officer approached the youth, knowing that he was currently bound by a curfew. The youth gave the officer an explanation, however his story was proven to be false and he was arrested.

The 17-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Assault

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic dispute in Chatham yesterday.

Around 5:00 p.m. a man and woman began arguing at their residence. The verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation when the man grabbed the woman and pushed her backwards causing her to fall. The woman did not require medical attention.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night, officers located the man and he was arrested. The 49-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Break and Enter

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter in Chatham.

In December 2013, police responded to a break and enter at a residence on Joseph Street. The victim reported that the suspect(s) forced their way into his home causing about $500 damage. Once inside the suspect(s) stole various electronics valued at approximately $3000 and cash. The scene was examined and evidence was seized for forensic analysis.

In March 2014, police received information from The Centre of Forensic Sciences stating that a DNA profile was generated and matched that of a local man. Officers attempted to locate the man, however when unsuccessful, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday morning, officers located the man on King Street West and he was arrested. Eric Dutcher, 27 years, of Queen Street in Chatham has been charged with break and enter. He was released from custody with conditions pending a future court date.

Mischief in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s assistance regarding a mischief investigation.

Sometime this past week, unknown suspect(s) damaged the industrial air conditioner at the Active Lifestyle Center on Merritt Avenue. Damage has been estimated at $10,000.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Around 8:45 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on River Line near Scane Road.

The driver lost control of her vehicle, left the roadway and struck a traffic sign. Damage was estimated at $2000.

The 18-year-old Howard Township woman was charged with careless driving.

Youth Charged with Weapon Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth following a disturbance in Chatham over the weekend.

On Sunday, May 25th around 1:00 p.m. a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were at a residence on Thames Street when a youth known to them attended regarding an argument over Facebook. The youth entered the residence without being invited and pointed a knife towards both the man and woman. The youth was forced out of the residence, however continued to attempt to gain entry by kicking the door and cutting a screen with his knife. The youth fled the area prior to police arrival.

Yesterday morning, the youth was located and arrested. The 17-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with break and enter, weapons dangerous, assault with a weapon and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Fails to Comply with Curfew

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth for failing to comply with his curfew.

On May 22, 2014 the youth was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to abide by a daily curfew of 10:00 pm to 6:00 a.m.

On May 24, 2014 around 11:30 p.m. police received information that the youth was breaching his curfew. An officer checked the youth’s residence and he could not be located.

Around 10:15 p.m. last night, an officer located the youth on Raleigh Street and he was arrested. The 16-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Wallaceburg

Yesterday morning around 8:00 a.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Johnson Street.

Neither driver was injured. Total damage was estimated at $4000.

A 51-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with failing to yield.
