Motor Vehicle Collision in Wallaceburg

Just before 11:30 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Dufferin Avenue near Lisgar Street.

One person sustained minor injuries.

Total damages were estimated at $1500.

A 63-year-old Chatham Township man has been charged with careless driving.

Man Charged with Flight from Police

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a traffic complaint in Wallaceburg earlier this week.

On June 3, 2014 CKPS officers were called to assist OPP with trying to stop a man driving a motorcycle in the area of Base Line and Irwin Road in Wallaceburg. Officers attempted to initiate traffic stop however the man failed to stop and evaded police by travelling at a high rate of speed through a field and using the rail road tracks. Through investigation, officers identified the driver and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Last night, officers located the man on Gillard Street and he was arrested.

Jean Guy Gagne, 45 years, of Wallace Street in Wallaceburg has been charged with flight from police. He has been released from custody with conditions pending a future court date.

Man Charged with Breaching his Release Conditions

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for failing to comply with his release conditions.

On May 5, 2014, the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to reside at a specific address on Woods Street in Chatham.

Yesterday, officers conducted a residency check on the man and received information that he was not living on Woods Street.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. officers located the man on King Street and he was arrested. The 32-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman in connection with a shoplifting incident in Wallaceburg.

On May 21, 2014 around 8:00 p.m. the woman entered a pharmacy and stole a quantity of watches from a display. The woman fled the store, making no attempt to pay for the items. Through investigation, police identified the woman responsible and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Around 8:30 p.m. last night an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg observed the woman riding a bicycle in the area of Murray Street and Wallace Street. The woman was arrested on the outstanding warrant.

Joyce Leveille, 32 years, of Wallace Street in Wallaceburg has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She has been released with conditions pending a future court date.

Break and Enter in Orford Township

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter last night.

Sometime between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a garage on Lees Line causing about $500 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a weed whipper, leaf blower and bike.

Man Charged with Aggravated Assault

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic incident last month in Chatham.

On May 23, 2014 around 11:30 p.m. a verbal argument began between the man and his common-law wife. The argument escalated into a physical altercation as the man assaulted the woman. The woman fled the residence with her young child.

The woman was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with serious injuries. She has since been released.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with aggravated assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police Looking for the Public’s Assistance

  • Sometime between June 2 at 10:30 p.m. and June 3 at 9:30 a.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Linden Street in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a cell phone, wallet and cash.     – Sometime yesterday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Robertson Avenue in Chatham through an unlocked window.     – Sometime June 2 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered an apartment on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole clothing and cash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Ken Morrell at 519-436-6600 extension #87272.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Wallaceburg

Around noon yesterday, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue.

Neither driver was injured. Total damages were estimated at $1300.

A 60-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with failing to make a safe lane change.

Cyclist Charged Following Collision in Chatham

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police investigated a collision between a motor vehicle and cyclist on Emma Street in Chatham.

No one was injured. The 19-year-old female cyclist was charged with the by-law offence of riding her bicycle on the sidewalk.

The Chatham-Kent police would like to remind cyclists that the Ontario Highway Traffic Act defines bicycles as vehicles that belong on the road. Riding on the road means riding with other traffic. This is only safe when all motorists use the same rules of the road.

With the warm weather upon us, motorists will see an increase in cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. Please slow down and share the roadway with all road users. Let’s make this a safe summer for everyone.

Retired Reverend Charged with Sex Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent Police Service continues to investigate a retired reverend for historical sexual offences involving school aged male children.

Through investigation, two adult men have come forward with allegations.

Harry BRYDON, 65 years, of Harrow has been arrested and charged with two counts of administering a noxious substance and one count of sexual assault dating back to 1986. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date.

BRYDON was employed as a reverend at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 18 Dolsen Road in Chatham between 1984 and 1988 where the victims and their families were members of the congregation.

Woman Arrested from CKPS Wanted List

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman from their ‘Wanted List’.

Around 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police located the woman on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. The woman was wanted on outstanding warrants for theft under $5000 x2, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 x2 and failing to attend court x3.

Lynn Gallerno, 42 years, of Alexandra Avenue in Chatham was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic related incident.

On May 31, 2014 the man was released from custody with several conditions. Two of these conditions stated that he was to notify the CKPS of his new address within 24 hours and to abstain from communicating directly or indirectly with a specific Chatham woman.

On this same date, shortly after his release, the man called the woman and left a message on her voicemail. On June 1, 2014, the man called the woman again, leaving her a message. As of 8:00 p.m. the man still had not provided police with an address as per his release conditions.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man on Grand Avenue East and he was arrested. The 65-year-old Chatham man has been charged with three counts of failing to comply. He has been released pending a future court date.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Charges Laid

A 40 year old Chatham male driver has been charged with Careless Driving under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act after a two vehicle collision which took place at King Street West and William Street in Chatham. This took place at approx. 10:50 a.m. on the 30thof May. A 59 year old female driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated by Paramedics who attend the scene. Damage estimates are approx. $2500.00.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Charges Laid

A 53 year old female driver from Chatham has been charged with Unsafe Turn under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act after a collision with a vehicle and an E-Bike which took place at Fielder Avenue and Sandy Street in Chatham at approx. 8:30 a.m. on the 30thof May. The male driver of the E-Bike did suffer minor injuries but was not taken to hospital at the time of the incident. There was minor damage to the vehicle and approx. $500 in damages to the E-Bike.
