No Hot Pets

With the warmer weather upon us, the Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone not to leave their pets in their vehicles.

Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on a relatively cloudy day with the car parked in a shaded area with the window slightly open.

If you can’t take your pet with you when you leave your car, then please leave them at home where they are safe.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for impaired driving last night in Blenheim.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Flemingo Street. The man struck an apartment building causing about $20,000 to the property and his truck. Through investigation, the officer believed that the man was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

Peter Borrows, 45 years, of Marlborough Street in Blenheim has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and operating a vehicle with no insurance. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date.

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

Around 1:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance – Sydenham Campus in regards to a belligerent man in the emergency department.

The 47-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He will be released when sober.

Cyclist Struck by Vehicle

Around 9:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a collision on Harvey Street near Centre Street in Chatham.

A vehicle struck a cyclist. The 29-year-old female cyclist sustained minor injuries, however did not seek medical attention.

Total damages were estimated at $3000.

A 20-year-old Chatham man has been charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Howard Township

Just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Green Line.

Neither driver was injured. Total damages were estimated at $24,000

A 22-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged with careless driving.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Chatham

Around 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Michener Road.

The 60-year-old Blenheim woman was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment of a medical condition. Damage was estimated at approximately $7000. The driver will not be charged.

Man Charged with Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a break and enter early this morning.

Around 3:00 a.m. police responded to an alarm at The Source Store on St. Clair Street. Upon arrival, the officers observed that the front door had been smashed. Once inside, the suspect smashed multiple glass display cases and stole various cell phones and tablets. Total value of the theft was estimated at $7000. Damage to the store was estimated at $2200.

Through investigation, police obtained physical descriptors of the suspect. Around 5:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man riding a bike on Park Avenue, matching the description of the suspect. The man was detained for investigative purposes and found to be in possession of a stolen iPhone from The Source. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

The 44 year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, mischief under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Break and Enter in Tilbury

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter in Tilbury.

On May 24, 2014 around 7:30 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on Mill Street. Cash was stolen from the safe.

Through investigation, police determined that an employee was responsible. Yesterday morning, Keegan Arbeau-Drouillard, 23 years, of Fort Street in Tilbury was arrested. He has been charged with break and enter. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Break and Enter

Sometime June 8 between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a detached garage on Raleigh Street through an unlocked door. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a set of golf clubs and power tools. Total value of the theft is estimated at $1700.

Several Vehicles Damaged in Chatham

Sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, 14 vehicles sustained damage to their tires and mirrors in the area of McNaughton Avenue East, Valley Road, Monarch Drive, Peirone Crescent, Vanier Drive and Donalda Drive.

Domestic Charges

On the 7th of June 2014, a male party was arrested for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. As a result, the 29 year old male now faces charges of Assault, Mischief Under $5000 and Forcible Confinement. The accused was held over for bail and will be making another court appearance on Monday the 9th of June.

Police Execute Drug Warrant

On the 5th of June 2014, shortly after 5pm, members of the Chatham Kent Police, Drug Enforcement Unit and Critical Incident Response Team executed a search warrant at an address on Berry Street Chatham On. As a result methamphetamine and cannabis marijuana was located. Two Chatham residents, and 50 year old male and a 44 year female face criminal charges.

Rooming House at 47 Victoria Chatham Closed Down

On the 6th of June, shortly after 11:00 am, the Intelligence Unit of the Chatham Kent Police Service, with assistance from front line personnel, and in conjunction with the Building Department of the City, the Chatham Kent Fire Service, the Technical Safety and Standards Authority and the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority conducted an inspection at 47 Victoria Ave Chatham. As a result, many infractions were found, and as a result, the hydro and gas were disconnected. Orders were issued through the Ontario Building Code, those being “Order to Remedy Unsafe Building” and “Order Prohibiting Use of Occupancy of Unsafe Building.” Occupants of the units have been relocated, assistance being rendered by the Victim Services Unit of the Chatham-Kent Police Service. The owner of the property is aware of the orders, and will be working towards compliance.

Man Charged with Fail to Stop

Around 4:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, officers on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Wheatley Road. The driver attempted to evade police however following a short foot pursuit he was apprehended. Through investigation, the officers learned that the man was suspended from driving and the licence plates were not authorized for the vehicle. A search of the vehicle also revealed that the man was in possession of 60 cartons of illegally obtained cigarettes in plastic bags.

The 38-year-old Wheatley man was charged with failing to stop for police, driving while under suspension and using plates not authorized for his vehicle. The cigarettes were seized and will be destroyed.

Yesterday morning, around 8:00 a.m. emergency crews responded to a three vehicle collision on King Street West near Third Street.

One person was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.

Total damages were estimated at $13,000.

A 47-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with failing to obey a red light.
