Man Charged with Break and Enter

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic dispute last night.

Around 10:00 p.m. the man entered his ex-common-law’s residence on Sandys Street through an unlocked door without permission. The woman asked the man to leave several times, however he refused. The man stood in the doorway and prevented the woman from leaving the residence with their two children. Neither the woman nor the children were injured during this incident.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. police were called and upon the officer’s arrival, the man was located inside the residence and arrested. The 23-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Resist Arrest

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a traffic stop in Chatham last night.

Around 10:30 p.m. police received information regarding a suspicious pick-up truck in the area of Pioneer Line and Caledonia Road. Officers located the vehicle on Gregory Line and initiated a traffic stop just east of Prince Albert Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer observed in plain view that the woman was in possession of large bolt cutters and several coils of underground copper cable. The woman was placed under arrest at which point she attempted to put the truck into drive. The woman continued to resist arrest and had to be physically removed from the driver’s seat. Upon being handcuffed and searched incident to arrest, the woman was further found to be in possession of gloves, a hammer and two socket wrenches. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Brenda Summerfield, 50 years, of Talbot Street in Shrewsbury has been charged with possession of break-in tools and resisting arrest. She has been released from custody with conditions pending a future court date.

Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

On March 6, 2014, police responded to a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham. Through investigation, police identified the man responsible. He was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released with conditions pending a future court date. On April 15, 2014, the man failed to attend court and warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday morning, he was arrested in Windsor. The 26-year-old McGregor man was transported to police headquarters and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and Enter in Chatham

Sometime between Friday, June 13 at 10:00 a.m. and Sunday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a residence on Raleigh Street in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a black RCA 32” flat screen TV, black 40” flat screen TV, Sony surround sound receiver with five black speakers, Samsung galaxy 551 cell phone and white Danby air conditioner window unit.

Break and Enter in Chatham

Sometime over night unknown suspect(s) entered a residence in the area of Adelaide St. N Chatham. There was no damage to indicate the point entry. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole two laptops, speakers and a Wii gaming system, all valued at approximately $2500.00.

Sometime between June 12 at 11:30 p.m. and the early morning hours of June 13, unknown suspect(s) cut a hole in the fence of a residence on Patterson Ave, Chatham. Once inside the backyard the suspect(s) stole $2000 in tools, a bicycle and bike trailer.

Wheatley Men Face Drug Charges

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two men following a disturbance in Wheatley last night.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. police responded to an incident of domestic violence. A man and woman engaged in a verbal argument when it escalated into a physical altercation. Officers entered the residence to ensure the safety of the woman and upon doing so observed in plain view a marihuana grow operation. Officers seized 20 mature plants, 60 infant plants and a bag of processed buds with a total street value of approximately of $81,500.

A 32-year-old Wheatley man has been charged with assault and production of a controlled substance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The man’s roommate, a 50-year-old Wheatley man, has also been arrested and charged with production of a controlled substance. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

The woman did not require medical attention.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for impaired driving early this morning in Thamesville.

Around 2:30 a.m. police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Lamila Street. Upon the officer’s arrival, a man was found to be sitting in the driver’s seat while under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 46-year-old Parkhill man has been charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He remains in police custody and will be released when sober.

Man Charged with Driving While Disqualified

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for driving while prohibited.

Last night around 10:45 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man driving a truck westbound on Talbot Road in Wheatley. The officer initiated a traffic stop and learned that the man was currently prohibited from driving for life.

The 61-year-old was charged with two counts of driving while disqualified. His vehicle was towed and impounded in accordance with Ontario’s Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Man Charged with Theft

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a Moraviantown man in connection with a theft in Chatham.

On June 6, 2014, police responded to an address on Grand Avenue East in regards to a theft complaint. At this time, a 25-year-old Chatham man reported that his iPhone 4S had been stolen.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible for the theft.

Yesterday afternoon, the man was located and arrested. Peter Hopkins, 34 years, of River Line in Moraviantown has been charged with theft under $5000. He has been released from custody pending a future court date.

Youth Charged with Failing to Comply

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a youth wanted on an outstanding warrant.

On May 20, 2014, the youth was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to attend police headquarters every Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to sign in with the officer in charge.

On Saturday, June 7, 2014, the youth failed to sign in and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday afternoon, the youth was located and arrested. The 17-year-old Harwich Township youth has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

Around 12:40 a.m. this morning, police responded to an intoxicated male trying to walk around cars in the drive- thru at McDonald’s on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Upon the officer’s arrival, the man picked up a rock and was uncooperative. The man eventually put the rock down and was taken into custody for his own safety as he was unable to care for himself.

The 18-year-old Chatham man has been charged with drinking underage and being intoxicated in a public place.
He remains in police custody this morning and will be released when sober.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Harwich Township

Around 5:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Front Line near Mull Road.

A 19-year-old Ridgetown woman was travelling on Front Line when she lost control of her vehicle.

She was not injured. Total damage was estimated at $4000.

The woman has been charged with careless driving.

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Bothwell.

Sometime yesterday between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a detached garage on George Street causing about $150 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole beer and liquor.
