Traffic Enforcement

Yesterday morning, an officer was conducting radar enforcement on Gladstone Avenue in Chatham in response to a traffic complaint of speeding vehicles in the area.

Just before 8:00 a.m. the officer observed a man driving a vehicle eastbound on Gladstone Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop to inform the driver of the speeding complaint. Through investigation, the officer learned that the man was currently serving three licence suspensions for failing to complete remedial measures, unpaid fines and a Highway Traffic Act judgment.

The 45-year-old Chatham man was charged with three counts of driving while under suspension. His vehicle was impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Break and Enter in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Dover Township.

Sometime within the past three weeks, unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked residence on Baldoon Road. Once inside the suspect(s) stole a quantity of jewelry.

Police Asking for the Public’s Assistance

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a stolen camping trailer.

Sometime between Saturday, May 3, 2014 and this morning, unknown suspect(s) stole a 2008 Kingsport 235BHL camping trailer from a residence on Langstaff Line in Chatham Township.

The trailer is white in colour with grey trim and maroon decals down the side. The trailer is 23’ in length, has two propane tanks mounted on the front and was last seen with Ontario licence plates B75 14Z. The value of the trailer is approximately $10,000. Arrested for outstanding warrants

On May 3rd, 2014 at approximately 12:47pm a Chatham Kent Police officer was on general patrol on Raleigh Street Chatham when he observed a male party walking on the sidewalk ahead of him. Upon seeing the officer the male party ran away and was located a short time later. Through investigation it was learned that there were outstanding warrants held for this party. As a result, a 32 year old Chatham man was arrested and will appear in bail court today.

Single Motor vehicle Collision leads to careless driving charge

On May 3rd, 2014 at approximately 9:33pm the Chatham Kent Police were called to attend a single motor vehicle collision on the Lindsay Side Road and Pioneer Line. Upon arrival a vehicle was observed partially submerged in a water filled ditch. The driver and passenger managed to exit the vehicle sustaining only minor injuries. The vehicle sustained approximately $5000 dollars damage. The driver, a 40 year old Chatham woman, was charged with careless driving.

Unwanted Persons call nets arrest for breaching probation conditions

On May 2nd, 2014 at approximately 2:56 pm the Chatham Kent Police attended at a hotel located on the East end of Grand Avenue, Chatham for an unwanted person call. Upon arrival the officers spoke with a female party and learned that she was in violation of her probation conditions. As a result of receiving this information a 31 year old Chatham woman was arrested and will appear in bail court today charged with breach of probation.

Single Motor Vehicle Collision – man charged with Careless Driving

On May 3rd, 2014 at approximately 1:06 am the Chatham Kent Police were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Longwoods Road near West Bothwell Road in Zone Township. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the roadway rolling several times before coming to rest in the ditch. The driver, a 55 year old Moraviantown man sustained minor injuries and was transported to 4 Counties Hospital for medical attention. The vehicle sustained approximately $15,000 dollars damage. The driver of the vehicle is charged with Careless Driving.

Man Charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed an intoxicated man on King Street near Fifth Street in Chatham. The man was unable to care for himself and was arrested for his own safety.

The 32-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He will be in custody until sober.

Break and Enter in Wallaceburg

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a break and enter in Wallaceburg last night.

Around 9:45 p.m. an unknown man entered a residence on Dufferin Avenue and stole alcohol. The suspect is described as a white male, 5’5”’- 5’8” in height, short dark hair, wearing a grey hoodie, jeans and black baseball cap.

Woman Charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a disturbance in Chatham yesterday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m. police responded to a residence on Victoria Avenue in regards to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed the woman kicking the front door of a residence as she was yelling and swearing. The woman actually broke the pane glass in the door causing about $500 damage. The woman fled the area on foot, however was apprehended a short distance away. During the arrest, the woman continually pulled her arms away from the officers in attempt to resist being taken into custody. While at police headquarters, the woman continued to be uncooperative and bit the hand of an officer. While being placed in a cell, the woman defecated and threw her own feces towards the officers.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman attended the same residence on Victoria Avenue around 2:00 a.m. and assaulted the male homeowner causing him to seek medical attention for minor injuries.

The 28-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, mischief under $5000 x2, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer. She was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Break and Enter

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter in Chatham.

Last night around 7:30 p.m. a citizen observed an insecure door to a residence on Orchard Heights. The citizen, known to the homeowner, entered the residence and found the man in the basement. The man fled the residence prior to police arrival.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. officers located the man and he was taken into custody following a short foot chase. Through investigation, police learned that the man had removed two bicycles valued at $150 from the residence on Orchard Heights earlier in the night.

The 29-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
