Home Invasion/Firearms Involved

Date of Incident: May 10th, 2014
Time of Incident: 1:15 am

On May 10th, 2014 a group of 15 year old females had a small house party at a home in Barrie near Essa and Mapleton Street. The parents of the girl hosting the party were away at the time. News of the party leaked out through a social media site.

Earlier in the evening, at approximately, 11:00 pm a group of four males, 21 years of age, who were unknown to the host or her guests, entered the home. Even though there was a significant age difference between the girls and the males they were permitted to stay. A short time later the host asked the males to leave as there was suspicions of drug use.

The males were angered about being asked to leave and said they would be back to seek revenge.

At approximately 1:15 am the four males returned to the home; two were armed with handguns. They forced their way into the home, pointed their guns at six females and one male. The one male was assaulted in the head with one of the firearms requiring 16 stitches.

Damage done to the home by the four males consisted of holes in walls and broken items.

Two of the four males, ages 21 years, from Barrie were located elsewhere, arrested and charged for a total of 14 related Criminal Code Charges which include Forcible Confinement, Break, Enter a Dwelling House, Pointing a Firearm, Assault with a Weapon and Mischief Over $5000.00. The males were held pending a Bail Hearing.

Investigating is continuing to identify and arrest the two remaining males. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call Detective Constable Rose at (705)725-7025 extension #2731 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Assault with weapon

A 911 call brought police to a Perry Street home for a disturbance involving a male with a knife.

2 males had been drinking in the backyard and when the resident asked a visitor to leave. The two males walked into the residence where the visitor pulled a knife and threatened to cut the second male. Another tenant of the building heard the commotion and tackled the suspect. A struggle ensued and the suspect bit the arm of the Good Samaritan.

Police arrested a 34 year old male for assault with a weapon, utter threats and assault. He was held for a bail hearingb

Threatening

Date: Sunday, May 11, 2014 – 6:11pm
Police received a 911 call tonight from an east end resident. The caller advised that they have been involved in an ongoing neighbor dispute.

While outside this evening, the caller heard the neighbor yelling threats and making a call to arrange someone else to cause her harm.

Police attended and spoke with both parties. As a result a 31 year old Barrie female was arrested for Threatening. She was taken to the station and held for a bail hearing.

Community Service

Occurrence #: Police Week

Chief Greenwood and Deputy Chief Carlson, along with other members of the Service, attended at Barrie City Hall for the opening ceremonies of Police Week. The event was highlighted by the Barrie Police Tactical Support Unit repelling from the roof top of City Hall. Barrie Police Service would like to thank all those who attended and for your continuous support.

Domestic

Officers attended an east end residence in regards to a Domestic dispute. When Officers arrived on scene the male victim had advised that he had been punched in the face by his ex-girlfriend who was on scene to gather some of her belongings. The 20 year old female was arrested for assault and released to attend court at a future date.

Assault (Road Rage)

Date: Sunday, May 4, 2014 (All day)
On May 4th 2014 Officers were called to the area of Burton Avenue and Millburn Street in regards to a road rage incident. The victim advised that he was stopped behind the suspect at a red light when the traffic signal changed to green. The suspect vehicle did not move so the victim used his horn to notify the suspect of the signal change. The suspect exited his vehicle went back to the victims vehicle and assaulted him. The suspect then left the scene. After further investigation the suspect was identified and on May 11th 2014 turned himself in. The 57 year old male was arrested and released to a future court date.

Search Warrants

The Barrie Police Service working in cooperation with the London Police Service have been investigating some stolen property which had made its way to the Barrie area.

The yard care equipment was stolen in the London area in November when a tractor trailer was stolen and later recovered void of its load.

Members of the Street Crime Drug Unit located some of the stolen property being sold at liquidation outlets in the area.

On Friday morning officers executed three search warrants in Barrie and one at an Orillia location and recovered equipment of a value of $10 000.

It appears at this time that the store owners may have unknowingly purchased stolen property but the investigation is ongoing.

Stolen motor vehicle

Barrie Police were called to the area of Gunn and Shannon streets for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Police attended the area and located the suspect vehicle and three occupants.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Owen Sound and appears to have been used in a series of thefts from parked cars in Barrie.

As a result, the occupants were arrested for possession of stolen property.

Police conducted a search of the area and were able to locate a fourth (4th) suspect hiding nearby.

The four accused are facing charges that include:

The driver was charged with driving while disqualified
Possession of stolen property (stolen truck)
Possession of stolen property (stolen property from nearby cars)
Numerous charges of breaching probations
Numerous charges of trespass by night

Drugs – Trafficking

Date: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 – 1:00pm
On the 6th of May 2014 at approximately 1pm, Barrie Police were conducting a routine traffic stop of four males on Dunlop Street. The vehicle stop was as a result of a violation on the roadway.

As the officer attended to the vehicle in order to investigate he could smell a strong odour of marihuana emanating from the vehicle. The males were subsequently arrested on the belief they were in possession of a quantity of marihuana. Through further investigation, the officer recovered three mason jars filled with marihuana, a large Ziploc bag filled with marihuana and two large chunks of hashish. The marihuana totalled approximately 225 grams while the quantity of hash was weighed in at approximately 30 grams.

The total street value of the drug seizure was approximately $3000. All four males who were in their 20’s have been charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking. They will be appearing in court on May 7th 2014 as they were held for bail.

Intoxicated female refusing to leave

Barrie Police officers attended a Blake Street Gas bar regarding an intoxicated female refusing to leave. Officers arrived on scene and located the female now sleeping in the store. The 27 year old Barrie resident was subsequently arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

She was transported to the Barrie Police Service and held until sober.

Warrants

Date: Monday, May 5, 2014 – 12:00pm
On the 5th of May 2014 at approximately 12pm, Barrie Police were at the Probation office for an unrelated matter when a 30 year old male entered the office hoping to transfer his file from Edmonton to Barrie as the male had recently moved to the beautiful city of Barrie.

While probation officers conducted a background search of the male they discovered that the male was wanted on a warrant held by Edmonton Police regarding an assault and numerous recognizance violations.

Barrie Police subsequently contacted Edmonton Police who were aware that the male had recently moved to Ontario and were in the process of extending the warrant to a radius of Ontario. Edmonton indicated they would be happy to return the male to Alberta in order to deal with his outstanding charges.

The male will be held in Barrie cells pending the arrival of Edmonton Police which is expected to be on Tuesday May 6th 2014.

Motor Vehicle Collision / Public Mischief

Date: Sunday, May 4, 2014 – 8:40pm
Police were called to the intersection of Dunlop Street and Boys Street for a motor vehicle collision where a vehicle struck a male on a long board.

When police arrived and commenced an investigation, the male on the long boarder reported being hit by the vehicle. When other witnesses were interviewed it became obvious that the long boarder deliberately ran into the vehicle. He became aggressive towards the elderly driver and jumped onto the vehicle. He then prevented the driver from leaving to call the police.

Officers learned that the boarder’s brother had been in the area and recorded the incident on his phone and it showed a deliberate attempt to get struck by the vehicle. Further information was provided that similar incident had happened earlier in the week with the same males.

Police arrested the 24 year old Barrie male for Public Mischief (cause a false investigation) and Causing a disturbance by impeding. He was taken to the station for investigation and released with a future court date. His brother attended the station on his own accord and was also charged with Public Mischief.

Impaired driver

Barrie Police were called to respond to a motor vehicle collision on Ferndale Dive Sunday morning. The collision occurred after one of the vehicles involved crossed the center line of the road colliding with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. One of the drivers involved was arrested at the scene and now stands charged with numerous offences including; impaired driving, over 80, dangerous driving, possession of a controlled substance and breach of recognizance. Police also learned that the male driver was currently on release for similar charges that had occurred at an earlier date. Both the arrested driver and second driver involved were treated at hospital for minor injuries.

Liqour Infraction

Police were called to a downtown establishment for an assault. While investigating the alleged offence, officers noticed a patron walk out of the establishment with open liquor. The bar staff made no attempt to stop the offence from taking place.

Officers charged the bar under the Liquor Licence Act for allowing alcohol to leave the premise.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario will be notified of the infraction.

Family Dispute

Barrie Police were called to attend a north end address Saturday morning in regards to a heated family dispute. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the individuals involved who advised an argument started over household finances. The dispute was concluded peacefully with officers acting as mediators.
