Assault

Date: Sunday, June 22, 2014 – 7:00pm
Shortly after 7pm on Sunday evening, officers were called to a Harvie Rd. residence regarding a family dispute. On location the officers were met by a female victim who advised that she had been assaulted by her fathers girlfriend. During the investigation it came to light that the 59 year old father had also been assaulted. As a result a 60 year old women is in custody facing two counts of assault and is scheduled for a bail hearing. Injuries were minor and no medical treatment was required.

Police Assistance

Date: Saturday, June 21, 2014 – 7:30pm
Barrie Police Service responded to an east-end residence after someone reported a neighbor hitting a propane tank with a hammer. Police spoke with a 61 year old Barrie man who advised he was trying to remove the copper fittings for monetary benefit. Officers gave the male some safety advice before something tragic occurred.

At approximately 10:18 am on Saturday morning near the intersection of St. Vincent St. and Rose St. a 57 year old female was walking along the sidewalk. At that time a female was reversing a vehicle out of her driveway and struck the pedestrian. Emergency personnel attended the scene and treated the pedestrian for minor injuries. The Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating the incident and charges are pending.

Robbery

Date: Friday, June 20, 2014 – 4:07am
At approximately 4am on Friday morning, a lone male suspect entered the Esso gas station at the intersection of Essa Rd. and Bryne Dr. At that time the suspect produced a knife and demanded cash from the clerk. An undisclosed amount of money was obtained and the suspect fled the scene. Police responded and a K9 search of the area was conducted with negative results. Members of the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing the investigation. The suspect in this matter is described as a white male in his early 20’s, approximately 5’6 tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and track pants. In addition to being armed with a knife the suspect was also in possession of a skateboard. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Barrie Police Service or Crimestoppers.”

Domestic Assault

Barrie Police were called to a south end residence for a domestic assault in progress.

Police arrived and spoke with a 37 year old female who had a bloody nose and several bruises on her arms.

The suspect was an intoxicated 61 year old male who was also on a recognizance that prohibits him from consuming alcohol.

He was arrested for domestic assault and failing to comply with his recognizance. He was transported to the Barrie Police Service where he was held for a bail hearing.

The victim sustained minor injuries and sought her own medical attention.

Mischief and Breach Probation

Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 – 12:10am
On the 16th of June 2014, a 33 year old London, Ontario male was released from custody at the Central North Correctional facility. He was provided a bus ticket to Barrie where he arrived in the early afternoon. The male was attempting to get money together in order to return to London, Ontario and in doing so decided to grab himself a six pack of tall boy beers to celebrate his release from custody.

The male drank the beer and became intoxicated. At approximately 12:10am on the 17th of June 2014, the male entered a convenience store in the downtown area. While in the store the male for unknown reasons went into a drunken rage knocking over displays and damaging numerous pairs of sunglasses in the process. The male then fled from the store and police were contacted to investigate.

At approximately 2 am, the male returned to the store and apologized for damaging property and attempted to set up an arrangement to pay the store back. Only problem was the male has no source of income and no ability to pay for the damage.

Police were called to attend again and subsequently arrested the male for Mischief Under $5000. It was then revealed he was on two separate probation orders which had conditions for him to be good and keep the peace. The male was held pending a bail hearing and will likely be returning to Central North Correctional facility sometime in the afternoon on the 17th of June 2014!

Bail violations

On Sunday June 15th about 7:43 pm Barrie Police received a call to a north end residence regarding a domestic dispute. The spouse of a 41 year old Barrie male reported her drunk ex had shown up at her house despite being under 24 hour house arrest and prohibited from drinking. It was reported the suspect had earlier threatened the complainants father and friend. The suspect was arrested prowling in the bushes of the next door neighbor. He will attend court in the morning for another bail hearing.

Assault

On Sunday June 15th at 8:56 pm Barrie Police were called to a north end residence for a disturbance. The owner of the house told police a 32 year old tenant had assaulted him with a can of bear spray. The overspray contaminated the house causing the victim, 2 females and 2 infants irritation to their eyes and some respiratory distress. A warrant has been prepared for the suspect.

Impaired

On early Monday morning at 1:09 am Barrie Police were called by a citizen following a suspected impaired driver along Blake Street at Collier Street heading towards the downtown. Officers found the car on Dunlop Street East after the driver hit the curb and blew out a tire. A 59 year old female Barrie resident has been charged with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit. Released to a future court date.

House Fire

Date: Sunday, June 15, 2014 – 2:00pm
On the 15th of June 2014 at approximately 2pm, Barrie Police responded to a south end residence regarding a fire that had started in the garage.

Upon Police arrival, Barrie Fire had arrived on scene and were working to extinguish the fire from within the garage. Police determined that at approximately 1pm, a male resident had left the residence to go on a bicycle ride. Upon his return he noticed black smoke coming from the garage and called 911. There was another female residing in the basement who was safely removed from the residence prior to police and fire arriving on scene.

The fire was extinguished and no injuries resulted from the fire. Through initial examination it appears there maybe extensive damage to the garage and residence as the flames were able to make there way into the walls of the garage and attached residence.

Police and fire are continuing their investigation.

Human Trafficking

Date: Saturday, June 14, 2014 – 11:30pm
Between the 20th of April and the 12th of June 2014, a 41 year old Barrie male began to exercise control over a female victim that was known to him. The victim was coerced by way of threats to perform sexual acts to other men as a means of paying the 41 year-olds alleged drug debts he had incurred over a period of time.

The victim fearing her safety, abided with the males commands and performed sexual acts while not receiving any payment. The victim on several occasions was threatened to be harmed if she did not abide with the males commands.

Police were made aware of the information and immediately commenced an investigation into the allegations.

As a result of the investigation, police determined numerous offences were being committed and subsequently sought a warrant for the males arrest.

On June 14th 2014, Police located the wanted male at which time he was apprehended and held pending a bail hearing.

The 41 year old Barrie Male is facing the following charges:

1. Human Trafficking

2. Exploitation

3. Extortion

4. Procure to have illicit sexual intercourse

5. Utter threats

Impaired Driving

Police stopped a car on Dunlop Street last night. Upon speaking with the driver, Police determined that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Police arrested the driver and brought him back to the station. Further investigation revealed that the driver was already out on charges for impaired driving in another jurisdiction in Ontario. The driver’s court date for that charge was later on today, the 13th of June. The driver will not be able to attend that court but will be held for bail court in Barrie.

Theft Under $5000

On December 18th 2013 a victim reported that he locked up his bicycle outside of an Anne Street business. When he returned a short time later he found that his bike had been stolen. The following day the victim located his bicycle at a local Pawn Shop and contacted Police. Police were able to obtain store video from the Pawn shop and identified the suspect. The bicycle was returned to the owner.

On June 12th 2014 the suspect turned himself in to Barrie Police. The accused was charged with Theft Under $5000 and released to a future court date.

Animal Complaint

Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2014 – 8:00pm
Barrie Police were called to a Pheasant Trail residence at the request of a very upset woman who discovered a “bat” flying around her home.

The complainant locked herself in a room with her three children and called the Barrie Police Communications unit begging for assistance.

Barrie Police Communications dispatched a unit to assist the family and on arrival, the Officer did locate a large bat flying through the home.

The Officer described the bat as “large and in a foul mood”.

The Officer removed the family from the residence and re-entered the home, locating the bat resting on a chair.

The Officer covered the bat with a sheet and removed it from the residence, setting it free a distance away.

The grateful family returned to their home none the worse for wear.

It appears the bat may have entered the home via a garage door.

There were no injuries sustained to the family or the bat.
