Cyclist Airlifted Following Collision

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 4, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Sauble Beach Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist on Bruce Road 13 in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

As a result, the cyclist was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The Grey Bruce OPP are continuing the investigation. It is believed that there are witnesses that had stopped to render assistance, and departed once emergency crews were on scene. The Grey Bruce OPP would like to speak with these witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or online at www.opp.ca/reporting

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – Fred LOGAN

(HURON EAST, ON) – An incident late last night in Vanastra has left a victim in hospital with serious injuries while the accused is now facing some serious charges.

On August 5, 2021 at approximately 11:40 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to an apartment building located on 12th Street after receiving a call about a suspect with a weapon that was causing a disturbance throughout the building. 

Minutes later officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody. A subsequent investigation revealed the accused had assaulted two individuals in the building. One victim escaped injuries, however, the other a 29-year-old from Huron East, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Fred LOGAN, 25 years of age, from Huron East has been charged with:

·        Aggravated Assault

·        Assault with a Weapon

·        Mischief

·        Causing a Disturbance

·        Fail to Comply with a Probation Order – 3 Counts

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 9, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Repeat Offender Arrested In Goderich – Aaron WEDGE

(GODERICH, ON) – A Goderich resident is facing a number of charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) yesterday afternoon.

On August 5, 2021 at approximately 1:50 p.m. Huron County OPP officers responded to a business located on Courthouse Square in Goderich to investigate a report of a person causing a disturbance inside the store.

Officers arrived on scene and learned the suspect in question was currently bound by a probation order and was failing to comply with a condition of his release.

Upon arrest the suspect obstructed the officer by resisting arrest. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the accused and he was taken into custody.

Aaron WEDGE, 30 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

·        Fail to Comply with Probation Order – 4 counts

·        Mischief

·        Causing a Disturbance

·        Obstruct Peace Officer

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 9, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Tires Stolen From Near Gorrie

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating a recent break, enter and theft of tires from a business located near Gorrie.

On July 19, 2021 Huron OPP responded to the business located on Harriston Road to investigate a break, enter and theft from an on-site storage trailer. The persons responsible cut the security lock to the trailer and once inside the trailer they stole several new farm vehicle tires.

The stolen tires are described as follows:

·        4 – Galaxy Marathoner tires.

·        2 – BKT Agrimax 480/70r34 tires

·        1 – Mitas size 520/85R38 tire

The value of the stolen tires is estimated at $4,000.

Police believe the theft took place sometime between July 14th and July 19th

Break & Enter Near Belgrave

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent break, enter and theft that occurred east of Belgrave.

On July 16, 2021 Huron OPP officers responded to a property located on Morris Road to investigate an overnight break, enter and theft of tools. The subsequent investigation revealed the person(s) responsible entered into a detached garage and stole numerous power tools and an automotive diagnostic scanning tool.

Some of the stolen items included:

·        MaxDAS, model DS708 automotive scanning tool

·        Dewalt airbelt sander, grinders, drills, orbital sander and sawzall

·        Mastercraft socket set and ratchet set  

The value of the stolen goods has yet to be finalized.

32 Year Old From Listowel Facing Impaired Charge

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH, ON) – On August 1, 2021, at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment responded to two separate driving complaints on Wellington Road 86 involving a vehicle travelling westbound with frontend and undercarriage damage.

Officers located the vehicle and while speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were detected and they were placed under arrest.

As a result, Emily Laura WILSON, 32-years-old of Listowel has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on September 3, 2021 to answer to the charge.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

Fatal Collision Update – Deceased Identified

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On August 6, 2021 at approximately 4:15 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police, Wellington County Detachment, responded along with Puslinch Fire and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Watson Road and Maltby Road in the Township of Puslinch.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound motor vehicle collided with an eastbound motor vehicle at that location. The driver of the eastbound motor vehicle, William IRVING, 95-years-old of Guelph was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the southbound motor vehicle, Drago STEPUSIN, 49-years-old of Stoney Creek was transported to hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

The Wellington County OPP and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) continue to investigate the collision.

Break & Enter In Vanastra

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate a break, enter and theft incident that took place in Vanastra over the long weekend.

On Saturday, July 31, 2021 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a business located on London Road to investigate a break, enter and theft in progress. Officers arrived on scene and a subsequent search revealed the suspect had cut a hole in the fence to gain entry into a secure area. 

Members from the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine also attended the scene to assist with the search. Despite the thorough search the suspect was not located. 

A laptop was later reported as stolen. 

The suspect was described as a white male, with blonde hair that was wearing grey shorts, a grey top and white running shoes.

Stolen Mini Excavator Recovered – Dale SOUTHARD Arrested

(HOWICK, ON) – If you see something, say something! Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) credit a citizen’s call about some suspicious activity in Wroxeter with helping police catch a Ripley resident with some stolen property.

Just before 8:00 a.m. on July 17, 2021 Huron County OPP officers received a call about some suspicious activity and suspicious vehicles that were observed around a property located on Centre Street. Officers arrived a short time later and located a suspect on scene with a pickup truck, mini excavator and a trailer loaded with scrap wire.

The initial checks didn’t reveal the property was stolen however upon further investigation and with the assistance of the Insurance Bureau of Canada police were able to confirm the vehicles were indeed stolen. 

The investigation led to the recovery of a mini-excavator stolen from North Huron, a pickup truck stolen from Leeds-Lansdowne Township and a trailer loaded with approximately $7,000 in scrap wire. 

On August 1, 2021 Huron OPP officers arrested the accused without incident in Wingham.

Dale SOUTHARD, 34 years of age, from Ripley has been charged with the following offences: 

·        Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – 3 Counts

·        Altering/Destroying/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 20, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Fatal Collision Near Walton

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place this morning west of Walton.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and North Huron Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision located on Blyth Road (Huron County #25) west of Walton.

The preliminary investigation has determined a sport utility vehicle was travelling eastbound on Blyth Road (Huron County #25) when the vehicle left the roadway, entered into the south ditch and collided with a tree. Upon colliding with tree the vehicle became fully engulfed in fire.

The driver/lone occupant died at the scene.   

The deceased has yet to be identified.  

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation with assistance from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team.

Blyth Road (Huron County #25) is currently closed between Clyde Line and Brussels Line. Please use an alternate route to avoid delays.

Further information will be provided pending next-of-kin notification.

Fatal Collision – Charges Laid

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On July 23, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grey County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Inter Township Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 6-10 in the Municipality of Meaford.

A driver, identified as 55-year-old Craig Heatley of Bradford West Gwillimbury, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A passenger of the vehicle was also transported to hospital, with serious non-life threatening injuries.

On August 6, 2021, Grey Bruce OPP charged 83-year-old Nina NODWELL, of the Municipality of Grey Highlands with the following offences:

  • Careless driving causing death
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm

Grey Bruce OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) continue to investigate this matter.

More Impaired Drivers – PEHLKE, VEZZA & BRAUN

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three drivers over the long weekend.

On July 31, 2021, after 10:00 pm., the Perth County OPP was alerted to a vehicle in the area of Road 124, Township of Perth East, where an occupant was observed sleeping inside. As a result of an investigation, Davin PEHLKE, 29-years-old of Howick Township, was charged with:

  •  Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs
  •  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) 

On August 1, 2021, shortly after 12:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a possible impaired driver in Listowel. Police located the suspect vehicle and as a result of an investigation, Anthony VEZZA, 39-years-old of Listowel, was charged with:

  •   Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine 

On August 2, 2021, just before 2:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a possible impaired driver when bystanders observed a vehicle leave the roadway and later depart the scene. Police subsequently located the suspect vehicle and as a result Abram BRAUN, 35-years-old Listowel, was charged with:

  •  Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs

All of the accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on later dates. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute to the accused. The accused in these matter were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

60+ Over Speed Limit – Vehicle Impounded

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged another driver after they were speeding more than 50km/h over the limit in the Municipality of West Perth.

On July 27, 2021 just before 9:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 20 after it was found to be travelling more than 60 km/h in excess of the posted speed limit.

As a result, Colleen LOCKE, 53, of Woodstock, has been charged with:

–      Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and fourteen seven vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Rifle Stolen

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On August 3, 2021 at approximately 6:30 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on Christie Street in Rockwood.

It was reported that sometime overnight unknown suspects entered a secure trailer on a residential property and stole a metal gun locker that contained the following items:

  • Black .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a wooden stock
  • Ammunition
  • Black air rifle with a wooden stock
  • Black air pistol with a 10″ barrel with a wooden grip
  • Black CO2 air pistol – revolver style

A variety of construction tools were also stolen.

Several vehicles on Kaine Hill Drive were also entered and property stolen over the long weekend. The Wellington County OPP want to remind residents to report any suspicious activity or incidents to police immediately. Your information may help to interrupt a potential crime, help to identify a crime trend, suspect, or prevent further crimes.

Dirt Bike Stolen From Exeter

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent break, enter and theft of a dirt bike in Exeter.

Investigators have learned that sometime between July 20, 2021 and July 22, 2021 a thief attended a Victoria Avenue East property and proceeded to pry the lock off of a garage man door. Once inside the garage the thief stole a dirt bike & helmet and left the scene. 

The stolen dirt bike is described as a black and white Yamaha YZ 450 S valued at about $2,500.
