Katie RENWICK – Impaired Driving

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On January 19, 2023, just before 4:00 p.m., officers from the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Tremaine Avenue South in the Municipality of North Perth.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver was arrested and later released.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Katie RENWICK, 26-year-old of Stratford, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

57 Year Old Facing Impaired Charge

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On February 5, 2023, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle stuck in the ditch on Road 130 in the Township of Perth East. Police arrived and the truck had been pulled out. A short distance away, police located the vehicle and the driver on Road 122.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to a local operations centre for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.   

As a result, James SMITJES, 57, of Perth East, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Armed Robbery In Goderich – 2 Arrested

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit continues to investigate a robbery that took place in Goderich on January 23, 2023, at a business on Huron Road. 

On Monday, January 23, 2023, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Huron County OPP was contacted by a store manager who called to report a robbery that had just taken place. Two suspects, a male and female had reportedly stolen numerous items from the store and loaded the items into a smaller SUV just outside the building. During the robbery, the male suspect brandished a knife and threatened the employees who had given chase after the thieves. The male suspect also threatened the employees with a gun; however, one was not observed. The vehicle was last seen travelling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot and eastbound onto Huron Road leaving Goderich. 

After viewing media posts, two very observant citizens contacted the Huron OPP advising of the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle, and two suspects involved in this investigation. Police were able to locate and arrest both suspects who are now facing criminal charges. The suspect vehicle was seized during the investigation.

Jonathan VINK, 33 years-of-age from Sudbury has been charged with the following offences:

–      Armed Robbery,

–      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose,

–      Carrying Concealed Weapon,

–      Dangerous Operation,

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000,

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine,

–      Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts).

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Christina CONSTANTINOU, 49 years-of-age from London has been charged with the following offences:

–      Armed Robbery,

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000,

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine,

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on March 06, 2023.

$100,000 In Damage To Airport – 22 Year Old Arrested

(KINCARDINE, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a break, enter, and mischief to the Kincardine Airport with damage estimates of approximately $100,000.

On Sunday February 05, 2023, at approximately 09:57 a.m., OPP were called to the airport located at #1987 Highway 21, Municipality of Kincardine. A witness had located the suspect, who was still inside the building and notified police. OPP arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect, who was still on the premises. The North side entrance door had been damaged, along with the ceiling, and aviation electronics.

The suspect was transported to the South Bruce (Walkerton OPP) detachment where he was processed and held for a bail hearing.

Berkay ARAT, 22 years of age from Toronto has been charged with following offences:

–      Break, Enter and Commit,

–      Mischief Over $5,000 – Destroys or Damages Property

Fatal Snowmobile Crash

(MUNICIPALITY OF BROCKTON, ON) – A snowmobile crash late Saturday night has resulted in a fatality. 

At approximately 11:23 p.m. on February 04, 2023, South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Paramedic Services, and Walkerton Fire Department responded to a location near Sideroad 10 south between the 6th and 8th Concessions in the Municipality of Brockton after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a snowmobile crash.

Upon arrival first responders located and then performed life saving measures on the snowmobile operator. He was transported from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. 

The initial investigation has determined the deceased was operating a snowmobile on an OFSC trail when he left the trail and collided with a tree. 

The deceased is a 28-year-old resident of RR#1 Hanover. 

A post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Fatal Collision Near Mount Forest

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On February 6, 2023, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision on Highway 6, south of Mount Forest. Initial reports indicated that two Sport Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.) had collided and that both drivers had serious injuries.

OPP and emergency service responded. A 48-year-old female from Mount Forest was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased. A 46-year-old male form mount forest was airlifted to a trauma centre with life threatening injuries.

The roadway between Sideroad 5 and Sideroad 3 remained closed into the night while reconstructionist of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) unit investigated. The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision to please call 1-888-310-1122.

Wroxeter Meth Bust – WATSON, WEIS & Brown

(HOWICK TOWNSHIP, ON) – An investigation conducted by the Huron-Perth Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), Grey-Bruce CSCU, Huron OPP Major Crime Unit, West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) has culminated this week in a seizure of various property, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine.

On Thursday, February 02, 2023, OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on Centre Street in Wroxeter. 

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police located and seized a quantity of property including digital scales, electronics, prohibited knives, brass knuckles, a modified pistol grip pellet gun, Canadian currency, and live rounds of ammunition. Police also seized quantities of suspected Fentanyl and Methamphetamine.  

The combined estimated value of the seized property is $2,330.

The combined estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is $3,800.

$500 in Canadian currency was also seized.  

Rebecca BROWN, 34 years of age from Howick Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Fail to Comply with Probation (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order (three counts)
  • Possession contrary to a Prohibition Order (eight counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (two counts)

The accused was processed and held for a bail hearing.

Kyle WEIS, 30 years of age of No Fixed Address has been charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Fentanyl

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on March 06, 2023.

James WATSON, 48 years of age of Durham has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Fentanyl
  • Breach of Recognizance

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on March 06, 2023.

26 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(TIVERTON, ON) – On February 1, 2023, at 10:50 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle crash at the intersection of King Street and Main Street in Tiverton. Officers arrived to find the vehicle had collided with a small brick wall at the intersection.

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Joshua MCCULLOUGH, 26-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on March 15, 2023, to answer to the charges.

This charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

54 Year Old Struggles With Police

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On January 31, 2023, at 12:04 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to an address on Sixteen Mile Road, Middlesex Centre, for the report of a threats complaint.

It was determined a lone individual threatened two known people at the property and fled the scene.

The individual was later located and was brought into custody after a brief struggle with police.

As a result, Murray SHOEBOTTOM, a 54-year-old of Lucan Biddulph, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Criminal Harassment – repeatedly follow, repeatedly communicate with, watch and beset, threatening conduct
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Assault

The accused was held for bail.

Aaron LICH Arrested For Threats & Resisting Arrest

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of Goderich with uttering threats to a member of the public and police after an incident that took place on January 24. 

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Huron County OPP was dispatched to a threat complaint on Montreal Street in Goderich. When police arrived, they interacted with the subject of the complaint, who was argumentative and uttered threats towards police. The male was eventually arrested after he resisted arrest. The suspect was handcuffed and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for processing.

While at the OPP detachment, the suspect uttered further threats to the police officers that were processing him.

As a result of the incident, Huron County OPP has charged 37-year-old Aaron LICH from Goderich with the following offences:

–      Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm (two counts),

–      Resist Arrest

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 13th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

70 Year Old From Goderich Arrested

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a failed roadside test on January 29th at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Jones Street. 

Huron County OPP officers investigated a complaint from a concerned citizen who contacted the OPP at approximately 4:25 p.m. after they suspected a driver was operating their vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. OPP officers located the vehicle and driver shortly after on Jones Street in Goderich. In speaking with the driver, officers also believed that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving, which led to a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Beverly BUGLER, 70 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 6th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

SMITH Arrested For Drunk Driving

(MEAFORD, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired related offences following a traffic complaint that was reported by members of the public.

On January 31, 2022, at 9:29 p.m., members from the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 26 in the Municipality of Meaford.  

At 9:39 p.m., officers located the vehicle travelling on Sykes Street North and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of impairment. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, the Grey Bruce OPP have charged Ellaena SMITH, 23 years-of-age from Owen Sound with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was released and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.

The accused’s drivers’ licence was suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Collision Closes Hwy 21

(BRUCE TWP, ON) – On January 27, 2023, at 12:45 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision along Highway 21 in Bruce Township.

Officers responded to the scene with members of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find a propane delivery truck and a passenger vehicle involved in the crash.

The vehicle driver was extricated by members of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services. They were taken to a local hospital by EMS, then air-lifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

The South Bruce OPP is continuing to investigate the collision along with members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team.

Highway 21 was closed between Concession 8 and Concession 10, Bruce Township for the protection of emergency responders. It has re-opened for traffic.

The investigation is continuing.

HAEFNER Arrested Following Dog Fight

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On January 27, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault at the Guelph Lake Sports Fields on Woodlawn Road East, Guelph. It was reported that one person was assaulted by another person after their pets had been in an altercation. The victim declined medical attention and there were no reports of injuries to any animal.

The Wellington County OPP released a photo of one of the persons involved in an attempt to identify them and would like to thank the members of the public who came forward to assist with the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Steven James HAEFNER, 40-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date.

Another Motorcyclist Killed – 80 Year Old Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 20, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision at the intersection of Highway 6 and Wellington Road 38, north of Guelph. Initial reports indicated that a motorcycle and a sedan had collided and that there were serious injuries.

The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at scene. The operator of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Rosalind FERNEYHOUGH, 80-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Death contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph at a later date.
