18 Year Old Succumbs To Injuries Following Collision

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On December 18, 2019, at approximately 8:05 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a northbound sport utility vehicle and a southbound sedan on Highway 6 north of Arthur.

Emergency Services responded and both drivers were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Zoey Lynn WATERS, 18-years-old of Baden, died on January 5, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

2 Collisions Involving Cattle

(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On January 5, 2019 Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called for a motor vehicle collision, involving a car and a cow, on Concession 10 between Grey Road 17 and Gordon Sutherland Parkway, Georgian Bluffs. This is the second collision between a motor vehicle and a cow in the same area, in as many days.

On January 4, 2019 Grey Bruce OPP officers responded to a collision between a (white) sport utility vehicle and three cows that were hit standing on the roadway on Grey Road 17 between Gordon Sutherland Parkway and Concession 10. The involved vehicle went off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, knocking wires down. The single driver did not have any injuries. OPP officers were assisted at the scene by Grey County Paramedics and Inter-Township Fire Department.

The owner of the cows attended both of the scenes has been working to secure his cattle. It is believed that there are approximately 30 to 40 cows still loose in the area.

David Wayne LEFLER Found Hiding In Bushes

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On December 31, 2019 at approximately 9:35 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious person call at a residence on the Fifth Line in the Town of Erin. The complainant advised that there was a red vehicle parked in her laneway and that someone was hiding in the bushes near her residence.

Officers arrived at the scene and a query of the vehicle confirmed that it was stolen. Police located the person hiding on the property and placed then under arrest.

David Wayne LEFLER, 42-years-old of Parry Sound has been charged with Trespass at Night and Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on January 28, 2020.

27 Year Old Driver Facing Impaired Charge

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On January 1, 2020, at approximately 10:05 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle in the ditch with a possible impaired driver on Sandalwood Crescent in Ballinafad.

Officers arrived at the scene and while speaking with the driver determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Tyler REID, 27-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on February 7, 2020.

57 Year Old From Palmerston Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(TOWN OF MINTO NORTH, ON) – On December 24, 2019, at approximately 1:05 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a possible impaired driver that was just refused service at the LCBO and was last seen travelling on Main Street in Palmerston.

Officers located the vehicle travelling northbound on Arthur Street in Harriston and attempted to stop the vehicle however it continued on until it was forced to stop at a red light. Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had consumed alcohol. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Trevor QUIGLEY, 57-years-old of Palmerston has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on January 31, 2020.

Pedestrian Succumbs To Injuries – CLARK

(MEAFORD, ON) – On December 23, 2019 at 1:13 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to motor vehicle collision involving a transport truck and a pedestrian at Highway 26, east of third line, Meaford. The pedestrian was transported to hospital by Grey County Paramedics, but died as a result of the injuries.

The collision occurred while the transport truck was leaving from a private drive, making a right turn eastbound onto Highway 26.

The deceased has been identified as 66 year old, Edith Clark from Meaford.

Grey Bruce OPP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision with the assistance from OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

41 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge – RODGER

(CULROSS TWP, ON) – On December 28, 2019 at 3:13 a.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a pick-up truck along Bruce Road 6 in Culross Township. The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Brent RODGER, 41-years-old, of Culross Township was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 13, 2020 to answer to the charge.

28 Year Old With Loaded Handgun & Methamphetamine Attempts To Evade RIDE

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On December 31, 2019 at approximately 12:55 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Brock Road south where they investigated the driver of a southbound sedan that entered into the checkpoint. While speaking with the driver, police immediately detected the strong odour of fresh cannabis emanating from inside the vehicle.

The driver was directed to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, which they did briefly, prior to accelerating away at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued eastbound on Gilmour Road at a speed well in excess of the posted 60 km/h, where police lost sight of it. Police approached the intersection of Victoria Road and Gilmour Road where they observed the vehicle approximately 100 metres into the field and up against several trees after it failed to stop at the stop sign. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to evade police however, was taken into custody without incident.

Officers searched the vehicle incident to arrest and seized a loaded handgun as well as a large quantity of methamphetamine and cash. Further investigation revealed that the accused was bound by three different orders prohibiting them from possessing any weapon.

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code

Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order X3 contrary to the Criminal Code

Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused was remanded into custody pending the outcome of showcause hearing.

Human Remains Found – Criminal Investigation Underway

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – Members from the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of Detective Inspector Scott Moore of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), continue to investigate human remains that were found on December 24, 2019, in the area of Southgate Road 10, east of Highway 6 in the Township of Southgate.

The Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) are assisting with the investigation and a post-mortem examination was conducted on December 30, 2019. The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) has also been in the area conducting evidence searches.

There is no threat to public safety, but local residents can expect an elevated police presence in the area as the investigation continues.

Stolen Vehicle Investigation Underway

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On December 29, 2019, shortly after 9:00 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Middlesex Detachment observed a motor vehicle in the area of Wellington Road South in the City of London. Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen and a traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle failed to stop and fled the area.

Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was observed entering the intersection of Wellington Road and Southdale Road, where it was involved in a motor vehicle collision. London-Middlesex Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended, and the occupants of the second vehicle were transported to hospital with minor injuries. Three unidentified individuals from the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot. London Police Service Canine Unit attended the area to assist; however, the individuals were not located.

Drunk Driver Arrested At RIDE – BLACKPORT

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On December 24, 2019, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in the area of Perth Line 36 and Perth Road 122 in the Township of Perth East. During that time, officers spoke with the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment for further testing.

William George BLACKPORT, 63-years-old, of the City of Stratford was charged with:

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on

January 13th, 2020.

Driver Seriously Injured In ATV Crash

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – On June 28, 2014 at 1:29 am, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) crash in a farmer’s field located in the 500 block of Bruce County Road 12, Carrick Township. Officers attended with members of the Huron County OPP and Bruce County paramedics to find there were 2 people on the ATV and neither was wearing a helmet.

The male driver was taken to hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

The female passenger was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit is assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Cyclist Hit and Run Update: Police Seek Transport Truck With Flatbed Trailer

(HURON TWP, ON) – On June 26, 2014 at 8:57 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a fail to remain crash involving a bicycle on Concession 12 in Huron Township. Officers attended with Bruce County Paramedics and the Ripley Fire Department to find an injured cyclist in the ditch north of Concession 12. The involved vehicle wasn’t at the scene of the crash.

The cyclist was transported to hospital by ambulance and then air lifted to another hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigation unit and OPP Forensic Identification unit are assisting the South Bruce OPP with this investigation.

Investigators are looking to speak with the driver of a transport truck and flat-bed trailer. The truck will have damage around the passenger side headlight and the driver may not be aware of the crash.

Concession 12 was closed for the protection of emergency responders, but has since re-opened to traffic.

Police Investigate Head On Crash

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On June 29, 2014 at 11:58 am, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a head on crash on Bruce County Road 10 between Concession 12 and Concession 14 in Brant Township. Officers attended with Bruce County paramedics, Grey County paramedics and Elmwood Fire Department to find three vehicles involved in the crash.

A Brown Nissan Altima was north bound in the south bound lane, to pass another vehicle, when it collided with a Black GMC Sierra pick-up truck that was travelling south bound. A south bound Silver Toyota Yaris received minor damage when it struck the rear of the Black GMC pick-up.

Six people were transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Air Ambulance attended the scene, but wasn’t used.

The driver of the Altima, 21 year old Roman BARBURIE of Hanover, was charged with Pass when roadway not clear.

Bruce County Road 10 was closed for the protection of emergency responders, but has since re-opened to traffic.

Police Looking For Stolen Corvette – Plate Number BFLM 809

(GREENOCK TWP, ON) – On June 29, 2014 at 8:22 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a stolen vehicle report from a residence along Side road 5 in Greenock Township. Sometime between 10:30 pm on June 27, 2014 and 7:30 pm on June 29, 2014, a Black 1984 Chevrolet Corvette with convertible hard top was taken. The licence plate number is BFLM 809 and the vehicle identification number is on file with police. The value of the stolen car is estimated to be more than $10,000.
