Repeat Offender Arrested At RIDE – BRETT-CARRILLO

(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On August 30, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at on Highway 6 near Wellington Road when officers investigated the driver of a motor vehicle that entered into the checkpoint.

Police spoke with the driver and detected an odour of alcohol on their breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing. Police located a small tin containing ecstasy which was seized in a search incident to arrest. Further investigation revealed that the accused was also breaching conditions of a court document.

Jonathan BRETT-CARRILLO, 24-years-old of Kitchener has been charged with Possession of Ecstasy contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood), Failure to Comply with Undertaking and Failure to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on August 29, 2020 to answer to the charges.

46 Year Old Arrested For Refusing To Blow – FRANK

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On August 30, 2020, at approximately 10:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of a business on Tower Street South in Fergus.

While speaking with one of the involved parties, police detected an odour of alcohol on that person’s breath. A Roadside Screening Device test demand was read to the driver which they refused to comply with.

Shelly-Rae Jean FRANK, 46-years-old of Mapleton Township has been charged with Failure or Refuse to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on October 27, 2020.

63 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge – ST PIERRE

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On August 30, 2020, at approximately 6:15 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle that was parked in a visitor parking spot at an address on Alma Street in Rockwood.

Police located the vehicle and spoke with the driver who was the lone occupant. Police observed the ignition keys inside the vehicle and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol while speaking with them. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

An open container of liquor was also seized from inside the motor vehicle.

Leslie ST PIERRE, 63-years-old of Rockwood has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on October 30, 2020.

Drunk Driver Arrested – LAWRIE

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 1, 2020, at approximately 3:50 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a blue pick-up truck that was travelling westbound on Wellington Road 124 near Watson Road and was seen driving into the oncoming lane.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were place under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Bryan LAWRIE, 30-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph on November 6, 2020.

Drug Bust – STANISH & KEESHIG

On September 1, 2020 Neyaashiinigmiing Police, along with the assistance of Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police, charged two people in connection with an ongoing investigation into local drug trafficking.

Police conducted a vehicle stop on Coveney’s Road, South Bruce Peninsula, just outside the First Nation Community of Neyaashiinigmiing. A continued investigation led to the arrest of a male and female occupant of the vehicle.

A quantity of illicit drugs, including Fentanyl, Cocaine and Oxycodone were seized.

Sharon STANISH, 40 years old from Neyaashiinigmiing, and Charles KEESHIG, 32 years old from Neyaashiinigmiing, were each charged with three counts of Possession of a Schedule I Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The accused parties were released on an Undertaking pending a future court date.

Rollover On Hwy 6

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On August 30, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 6 near Moto Park Road, Chatsworth. Two occupants of a (black) car, a driver and a passenger, were transported from the scene by ambulance to a hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

OPP officers were assisted at the scene by Grey County Paramedics and Chatsworth Fire Department.

Grey Bruce OPP officers attended the hospital and spoke with the injured occupants. The passenger sustained facial injuries that required surgery. The passenger would not initially provide their identity to police or hospital staff and when it was revealed it was discovered that they were breaching a condition imposed by the Ontario Court of Justice.

As a result of the investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged the driver, Derek CARR, 24 years old from St. Catherines, with careless driving causing bodily harm, section 130(3) Highway Traffic Act. The accused was served a Provincial Summons and is required to attend Provincial Court to answer to the charge.

Grey Bruce OPP arrested and charged Hayden SKREPNEK, 25 years old from Niagara Falls, with failure to comply with release order, section 145(5)(a) Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 5, 2020.

4 Injured When Driver Runs Stop Sign

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Bluewater resident with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm in connection with a crash that took place west of Clinton.

On August 13, 2020 at approximately 7:23 p.m. Huron County OPP and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Parr Line and Bayfield Road. The subsequent investigation revealed the defendant failed to stop her vehicle at the stop sign on Parr Line and it collided broadside with a pickup truck that was travelling west on Bayfield Road.

Four people sustained significant but not life-threatening injuries in the crash.

A 24-year-old from Hensall has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm (Three Counts) and Fail to Ensure Toddler Properly Secured. She has a court appearance scheduled for Provinical Offences Act Court in Goderich on October 6, 2020.

Fatal Collision Update – Deceased Identified

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Monday August 31, 2020 at 05:04 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire Dept. and Middlesex-London EMS responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on Prospect Hill Rd. near Eight Mile Rd. in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

Police located a single motor vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a group of trees, resulting in catastrophic damage. One lone occupant was extricated from the vehicle at the scene and transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries by EMS.

The driver later died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) was deployed to the area to assist in the investigation.

The deceased driver has been identified as Jose RAYO – age 43- of London, ON.

The OPP are reminding the public that we must all do our part to ensure our roadways are safe. Please slow down, wear your seat belt, put away the phones and other distractions and never drive while impaired.

While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, police believe that speed was a factor in this collision.

19 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested – MARTIN

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – An early morning traffic stop east of Clinton this morning has led to charges against a Novice driver from Huron County.

At approximately 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a vehicle travelling on Front Road near Huron Road without taillights. A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was promptly transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The novice driver provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.

Caleb MARTIN, 19 years of age, from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 19, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Huron OPP would like to remind all novice drivers and young drivers (21 and under) regardless of licence class your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) must be zero.

20 Year Old Caught Going 50 Over Speed Limit – Vehicle Impounded

(MEAFORD, ON) – On August 29, 2020 at 8:06 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a (grey) car travelling eastbound on Highway 26, Meaford at more than 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) over the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

Grey Bruce OPP stopped and charged the driver, Breanna REDMOND, 20 year old from Meaford, with stunt driving-50km/h or more over posted speed limit, section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was served a Provincial Summons for a court date in Owen Sound Provincial Court, their driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Speeding Drunk Driver Arrested – WAGLER

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 29, 2020 at 7:52 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were observing traffic on Highway 6, South Bruce Peninsula in front of Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A (grey) pick-up truck was observed speeding north on Highway 6.

OPP stopped the vehicle and observed the driver with signs of impairment by alcohol. A breath sample from the driver, into an approved roadside screening device, registered a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton where further breath samples were collected by a Qualified Breath Technician. The results of the test were over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Stephen WAGLER, 28 years old from West Grey, with the following charges:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) CC

Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit, section 128, Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 5, 2020.

ATV Rollover – Serious Injuries

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On August 28, 2020 at 9:51 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) rollover collision on Dorcas Bay Road, Northern Bruce Peninsula.

OPP officers were assisted at the scene by Bruce County Paramedics and Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department.

The 38 year old driver lost control on a corner and was ejected from the ATV when it rolled over. The driver was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred. The driver was transported by ambulance to a hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

Grey Bruce OPP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No charges have been laid at this time.

Shannon HUNTER Arrested Again

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Wingham resident is facing two driving related charges following an arrest made by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) last week in Seaforth.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted a sport utility vehicle being operated on Sills Street by a suspected prohibited driver. A traffic stop was initiated and some checks confirmed the driver was indeed prohibited from driving, in addition she was currently serving a driver’s licence suspension.

Shannon HUNTER, 37 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Operation While Prohibited and Driving While Under Suspension. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 28, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Toddler Locked In Vehicle

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – On Sunday, August 30, 2020, at approximately 3:38 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment responded to a child locked in a vehicle at an Old Brock Street, Charlotteville, Norfolk County address.

It was determined that a child was accidentally locked in a motor vehicle at which time police were contacted. Officers arrived on scene and met with a very upset parent who indicated that their 2-year-old child had been in the vehicle for approximately ten minutes.

Officers were preparing to break the window on the vehicle when a family member arrived on scene with a spare set of keys. The child was subsequently removed and reunited with their parents. No injuries were reported.

Call 9-1-1 for help. Police and fire personnel will be immediately dispatched to your location.

Block the sunlight.

Remain calm.

Take note of the time.

The OPP is encouraging all parent and caregivers to carry their vehicle keys on their person at all times in case the locks on the vehicle engage without notice.
