36 Year Old From Wingham Arrested – Stolen Vehicle Recovered

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On December 26, 2020, at approximately 8:15 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft of a truck which had just occurred at a residence on Wellington Road 7 near Alma.

Witnesses reported that two suspects arrived at the victim’s property in a black pick-up truck that was carrying a snowmobile. One of the suspects then stole the victim’s vehicle and the two fled the area at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, police spotted one of the pick-up trucks on the Fourteenth Line of Mapleton Township. As police were attempting to pull over the vehicle, the suspect suddenly reversed and collided with an OPP cruiser causing minor damage.

During the arrest, police formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Police determined that the motor vehicle was stolen out of Middlesex County and the snowmobile was reported stolen out of West Grey. A quantity of cocaine was located in the stolen vehicle.

Carrie Lynn BENINGER, 40-years-old from Barrie, has been charged with;

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle Over $5000
  •  Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (2 counts)
  •  Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operation While Impaired-Over 80
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance-Cocaine

As a result of further investigation, the second suspect that fled the area in the other stolen truck was later identified. They are currently in custody on outstanding charges with another police agency.

Matthew Irwin CHARLTON, 36-years-old from Wingham has been charged with;

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle Over $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (2 counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada.
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Prohibited (4 counts)

Both accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice-Guelph at a later date.

Armed Robbery – Suspect At Large

(LAKESHORE, ON) – On January 14, 2021, at approximately 5:45 a.m. Lakeshore Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an address in the 1600 Block of County Road 22, Municipality of Lakeshore regarding a robbery.

Members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERT) and Canine Services where utilized at the scene. Major Crime and Forensic Identification Services (FIS) have been engaged to assist with the investigation.

There were no injuries sustained as a result of the robbery.

The lone suspect produced an edged weapon before fleeing the scene. The suspect is described as male, white, wearing a grey hoodie with a black hoodie underneath, brown pants and black running shoes. He was carrying a black back pack.

24 Year Old Arrested At RIDE

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On January 14, 2021 at 1:07 a.m. members of the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Bruce Road 13, near French Bay Road, in the Saugeen First Nation.

OPP officers spoke with a driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Samantha HARVIE, 24 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 24, 2021.

27 Year Old From Owen Sound Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On January 12, 2021 at 11:22 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver on Highway 10, near Road 170, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

OPP officers located the involved vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver initially stopped but then decided to speed away from the scene, narrowly missing the officers. Further investigation revealed that this was a stolen vehicle from Owen Sound.

Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle stopped on Grey Road 4, near the Village of Maxwell with the driver asleep behind the wheel. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and other offences and was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Chatsworth. A breath test conducted at the detachment, recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Dakota WEIDENDORF, 27 years-of-age, from Owen Sound, with the following offences:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, section 320.13(1) CCC
  • Flight from peace officer, section 320.17 CCC
  • Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000., section 354(1)(a) CCC
  • Failing to comply with release order, section 145(5)(a) CCC

The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the stolen vehicle was seized and returned to the owner. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 13, 2021.

Assault With Weapon – WEBBER

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On January 8, 2021 at 5:54 p.m. officers from the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault occurrence at an apartment complex on Grey Road 109, in the Village of Holstein, in the Township of Southgate.   

A resident was verbally threatened by another tenant, who brandished an electroshock weapon, (similar to a taser). There were no injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Corey WEBBER, 51 years-of-age, from Southgate, ON, with the following offences:

  •  Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) CCC
  • Failing to comply with a release order, section 145(5)(a) CCC

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 21, 2021.

Citizens On Social Media Help Get Repeat Offender Dylan DUNDAS Arrested #StandYourGround

(RIPLEY, ON) – Instead of insurance claims and truck shopping for New Years, two truck owners are thankful for a watchful community and positive use of social media that lead to the return of their trucks.

On Tuesday, December 29th 2020 at 12:44pm, South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began to investigate the theft of a white pick-up truck and a quantity of tools from Huron Street in Ripley. The items and motor vehicle had been stolen earlier that morning.

Word of the theft was reported throughout the community on social media and Police began to receive tips from the watchful and caring community. The tips lead responding officers to the location of the stolen pick-up truck that was stuck in a field just outside of the town. When officers arrived on scene, an individual was taken into custody without incident.

Dylan DUNDAS, 30-years-old, of Huron-Kinloss Township was charged with four counts of Possessing Stolen Property and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation. The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing and will be appearing, as required, to answer to the charges.

The stolen pick-up truck was recovered, along with stolen tools valued at $10,000 and a second pick-up truck that was reported stolen out of Middlesex County.

The South Bruce OPP appreciates the support of the community with this investigation. These timely tips directly lead to the safe return of stolen property to the rightful owners.

Methamphetamine A Factor In Domestic Incident

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A North Perth resident is facing a number of charges, including firearms and assault charges following a domestic incident last weekend.

On January 10 2021, just after 11:30 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that had just occurred in Listowel, in the Municipality of North Perth. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect had also uttered threats of death, and had been in possession of a firearm.

On January 11 2021, the Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), along with the Perth County OPP, executed a search warrant at a residence on Elizabeth Street East, Listowel, for evidence of the offences. During the search, methamphetamine was also located.

As a result, a 31-year-old North Perth resident, has been charged with:

  • Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Assault – Spousal
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Impaired By Drug Charge – COLE

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On January 9, 2021 at 8:25 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a car that was weaving into oncoming traffic and crossing the centre line on Joshua Crescent, near Highway 21, in Saugeen First Nation.

OPP officers spoke with the driver, who showed signs of impairment from drugs. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert. 

During a search of the arrested person and the involved vehicle, OPP officers located drugs and a weapon. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Christian COLE, 25 years-of-age from Saugeen Shores, with the following offences: 

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Fentanyl, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – Oxycodone, section 4(1) CDSA

The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 24, 2021.

Stunt Driver Charged – GARROW

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On January 9, 2020 at 5:20 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a pick-up truck for speeding on Highway 21, near Sideroad 5 in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. This truck was travelling over 135 kilometres per hour (km/hr) in the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. 

Grey Bruce OPP have charged the driver, Christopher GARROW, 56 years-of-age from Georgian Bluffs, ON with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The driver was served a Provincial Summons, they were issued a seven day drivers licence suspension and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

Theft From Listowel Porch

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The holidays are over, but thieves are still targeting unsecured deliveries.

On January 11 2021, just after 12:00 p.m., a Listowel resident reported to the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) that a delivered package had been stolen from the porch of a residence on Main Street West. The value of the stolen package is approximately $200.

The Perth County OPP want to remind all community residents to please contact the police immediately if they observe any suspicious activity.

Tips to Prevent Delivery Thefts:

  • Shop local, and use in-store pickup services when possible
  • Use “delivery tracking” to time deliveries
  • Request a signature upon delivery
  • Leave instructions on concealing and securing deliveries
  • Have someone else receive your package
  • Have packages delivered to where you will be (work, etc.)
  • Pick up packages at the delivery service depot
  • Customize delivery instructions with the vendor
  • Security system can monitor your home for drop-offs
  • Be a good neighbour and call police if you see anything suspicious

Repeat Offender Arrested For Robbery In Mount Forest

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On January 2, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a robbery that had just occurred in the parking lot at a business located on Main Street near Queen Street in Mount Forest.

It was reported that as the victim was returning to their vehicle, they noticed a suspect in the driver’s seat of their vehicle. The victim attempted to physically remove the suspect from the vehicle and a struggle ensued. The victim was knocked to the ground and the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Approximately an hour later, the same suspect in the stolen vehicle attended a gas station on Main Street in Mount Forest and stole a quantity of fuel.

Later the same day, the stolen vehicle was recovered and a suspect was arrested in York Region by York Regional Police.

As a result of the investigation, Raymond Lloyd COTE, 29-years-old of Mount Forest has been charged with Robbery, Theft Under Five Thousand Dollars, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.

Teens Bring Knife & Pellet Gun To Street Fight In Parkhill

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Sunday January 10, 2021 at 07:57 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of an altercation on Main St. located in Parkhill, ON. Police were advised that six males were involved in an altercation when one male was observed with a knife and a second male was observed holding a pistol. Two victims attempted to flee the area on foot but one was assaulted and struck in the head with the firearm. 

The suspects fled the scene, southbound on Main St. in a grey, Volkswagen motor vehicle. Police located the suspect vehicle a short time later and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, when the vehicle failed to stop for police and fled the area e/b on Nairn Rd.

A short time later members of the Middlesex OPP, along with the assistance of the London Police Service (LPS) located and stopped the suspect vehicle in the City of London. 

Police were able to recover a Glock 17 Pellet gun that was thrown from the vehicle as well as a knife and a quantity of illegal drugs from the involved parties.

As a result of an investigation police have charged a Young Person – age 17- of London ON with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle as per section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Flight from peace officer as per section 320.17 CC
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per section 88 CC
  • Imitation Firearm – Use while committing offence as per section 85(2)(a)
  • Assault with A Weapon as per section 267(a) CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • The accused has also been charged with two counts under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Police have also charged Noah GRANT – age 18- of Central Elgin, ON with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per section 88 CC
  • Imitation Firearm – Use while committing offence as per section 85(2)(a)
  • Assault with A Weapon as per section 267(a) CC 

Police have also charged Chase COFFIN – age- 18 of Central Elgin, ON with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per section 88 CC
  • Imitation Firearm – Use while committing offence as per section 85(2)(a)
  • Assault with A Weapon as per section 267(a) CC

Police have also charged Leslie KAILEN – age 18- of London, ON with:

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) as per section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per section 88 CC
  • Imitation Firearm – Use while committing offence as per section 85(2)(a)
  • Assault with A Weapon as per section 267(a) CC

All four accused parties were remanded into police custody and are scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice on January 12, 2020 to speak to the charges.

Do You Recognize This Thief?

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 10, 2021 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break, enter, and theft to a business on Glengarry Crescent in Fergus.

It was reported that on January 10, 2021 sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., unknown suspects attended the victim business in a modified red Ford F150 truck. The suspects gained entry to the fenced property by breaking a lock on a gate. They then proceeded to fill several containers with fuel before leaving the area. The theft was captured on security cameras.

The suspect vehicle is described as a modified red Ford F150 utility truck. The truck has an extended cab with a generator and welder mounted behind the cab.  It has a low, open short box with a heavy duty trailer hitch.
