(ARRAN TWP, ON) – A snowmobile operator is facing a criminal court date after members of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped to check a snowmobile on January 30, 2021 at 3:28 a.m.
While speaking to the driver on Side road 15 in Arran Township, officers determined they had been consuming alcohol.
Benjamin WALKER, 35-years-old, of Elderslie Township was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 24, 2021 to answer to the charges.

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On January 30, 2021 at 5:30 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle in the ditch along Concession 4 in Brant Township. Officers attended and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.
Mario SAUCEDO-GONZALEZ, 40-years-old, of Carrick Township was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams, Novice Driver with Blood Alcohol above Zero and Novice Driver with No Accompanying Driver. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 17, 2021 to answer to the charges.

(TEESWATER, ON) – An individual was taken into custody without incident after members of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a house in the village of Teeswater on February 1, 2021 at 8:40 p.m.
Officers arrived with members of the Teeswater Fire Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find that 2 parked vehicles and a parked snowmobile had also been hit.
After officers noticed signs of impairment, the driver was placed under arrest.
Weslick SMITH, 28-years-old, of Culross Township was charged with Impaired Driving, Dangerous Driving and Disobey Stop Sign. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 17, 2021 to answer to the charges.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding all parents and caregivers to speak to their children about water and ice safety after receiving complaints on February 2 2021 of children playing on the partially frozen Maitland River. Citizens at the Listowel Memorial Park, near Royal Street East, in the Municipality of North Perth were very concerned for the safety of the children due to thin ice and open water.
Venturing onto rivers, lakes, ponds or reservoirs can easily have fatal results. The temperature of the water is cold enough to take away your breath, leading people to panic, and then drown. Once submerged, your arms and leg go numb, which makes it impossible to swim. It also leads to hypothermia due to the reduction of body heat with the possibility of heart failure. This can happen to anyone even if you are a strong swimmer. Even in shallow waters, a slip and fall on the ice could result in someone losing consciousness, increasing the risk of drowning.
Please make sure that you always put your safety as a priority and remember that no ice is safe ice.

(GODERICH, ON) – A train derailment that took place in Goderich yesterday afternoon is currently under investigation by Transport Canada, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) and Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On February 1, 2021 at approximately 1:33 p.m. Huron County OPP, Goderich Fire Department (GFD) and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to the Goderich Grain Terminal on Harbour Street after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a witness that reported a freight train had derailed and collided with a pickup truck and an outbuilding.
Upon arrival firefighters immediately attended to two occupants that were initially trapped inside their damaged pickup truck. With the assistance of the firefighters the driver and passenger of the pickup were assisted out of the vehicle unscathed.
In addition to the damaged pickup truck the freight train completely demolished a transport truck and trailer that had just been loaded at the grain elevators. Fortunately the truck was unoccupied at the time of the collision.
After demolishing the transport truck and trailer the runaway train continued west toward the lake whereupon approximately 10 of the cars derailed and continued on striking the pickup truck and a wooden storage shed before coming to a halt.

An estimate on the dollar value of the damages has yet to be established.
Harbour Street remains closed at the top of the beach hill to allow heavy equipment operators complete the necessary clean-up. In addition to vehicle traffic, pedestrians are advised to stay away from the area for their own safety.
A comprehensive investigation is underway to try and establish the cause of the crash.

(PERTH EAST, ON) – Police are looking for suspects after a break and enter to a business in the Township of Perth East.
The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted on January 20 2021, after suspects broke into a business on Mill Street West, Milverton sometime the previous night. Suspects gained entry by cutting through a steel wall, and stole approximately $1000 worth of tools. This is not the first time this business has been targeted by thieves.
The Perth County OPP would like to remind the public to report any suspicious activity to police immediately, and consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms. Citizens are asked to ensure vehicles, sheds, garages and doors are locked to assist in the prevention of some crimes.

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On January 28, 2021 at 12:58 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault with a weapon that had just occurred on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail near Highway 6 and Sideroad 3, in the Township of Chatsworth.
Two snowmobile operators were assaulted by a pedestrian that was walking on the trail as they rode past. The suspect swung a large walking stick at the riders as they went by. There were no injuries.
As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Richard AUSTIN, 60 years-of-age, from Chatsworth, with two counts of assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 4, 2021.

Responding officers located an individual nearby who was taken into custody without incident.
Bradley MILLS, 32-years-old, of North Huron Township was charged with Theft under $5,000, Possess a Controlled Substance and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 21, 2021 to answer to the charges.

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – In November of 2020, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) uniform officers and the Crime Unit commenced an investigation into a report of a series of historical sexual assaults and other sex-related offences that occurred in the Township of Wellington North over a 12 year period of time between 2003 and 2015.
As a result of the investigation, the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit has charged Michael Bradley HURST, 43-years-old of Palmerston with Sexual Assault X6 and Indecent Act X4 contrary to the Criminal Code.
The victims and the accused were known to each other.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on March 2, 2021 to answer to the charges.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking to identify a person of interest after an altercation that occurred on a rural road in the Municipality of North Perth.
On January 27 2021, just after 6:00 p.m., the Perth County OPP and Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred on Line 89, west of Perth Road 164, north of Listowel. The victim had stopped to assist a motorist, and was assaulted.
The second vehicle had left the scene in a westbound direction on Line 89 prior to police arrival. There may have been two other occupants in the vehicle, and police would like to confirm their well-being.
The victim received minor injuries and was transported to local hospital.
The person of interest is described as:
Male, early 30’s
Long, scruffy, dark hair
Wearing a black mask with white spots, and grey coveralls
The outstanding vehicle is described as:
Light coloured compact car (silver or grey)
Loud muffler
Rust on the trunk, older style licence plate in poor condition
While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, police want to remind members of the public to always be aware of their surroundings and personal safety.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A traffic stop early this morning (28Jan) has resulted in an arrest and subsequent charges for a South Huron resident.
At approximately 3:12 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling the Town of Exeter when the officer stopped a vehicle on Andrew Street.
Upon checking on the driver the investigating officer determined the driver was failing to comply with a court ordered 11:00 p.m. curfew. As a result the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody.
Jamie MANTIE, 28 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Failure to Comply with a Release Order – Other than to attend Court and Fail to Comply With Continued Section 7.0.2 order. A bail court appearance was scheduled for January 28, 2021.
(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – On January 28, 2021, members of the Dufferin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit and Wellington County OPP Major Crime Unit with the assistance of the Child Exploitation Unit and OPP Digital Forensics Unit executed a search warrant at a Belwood residence stemming from two unrelated investigations in December of 2020.
As a result of this investigation, police have arrested and charged Frank KELLY,
38-years-old of Belwood with Possession of Child Pornography, Luring a Person Under 16 Years of Age By Means of Telecommunication and Distributing Child Pornography.

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On January 24, 2021 at 11:45 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to numerous reports of a plane that had crashed onto the ice on Lake Eugenia, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
The 56 year old pilot was returning to Kitchener, after flying near Collingwood. The 2016 Vans 7A airplane began have engine problems and the pilot decided that they needed to make an emergency landing. The pilot chose to land on Lake Eugenia. The plane crashed landed onto the frozen surface, coming to rest in heavy snow in the middle of the lake. The pilot was not injured and walked across the ice to shore. There were no other occupants on board the plane.
Grey Bruce OPP were assisted at scene by the Grey Highlands Fire Department and the Grey Bruce Paramedic Services.
The Transport Safety Board of Canada was notified and the pilot made arrangements to have the plane safely removed from the lake.
(GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On January 26, 2021 at 12:18 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that had just occurred at a commercial business on Highway 21, on the Sunset Strip, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
A suspect had stolen items from a store and then an altercation ensued, after they were confronted by a store employee in the parking lot as the suspect tried to leave the scene. OPP officers patrolled the area and located the suspect nearby and they were arrested without incident. A store employee received minor injuries.
As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Michael MOROZ, 42 years-of-age, from Owen Sound, with assault, section 266 Criminal Code of Canada CCC and theft under $5,000., section 334(b) CCC.
The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 25, 2021.
(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On January 20, 2021 at 3:40 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a possible impaired driver on Allenford Road, near Golden Pond Drive, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
OPP officers located this vehicle and spoke with the driver, who failed a roadside screening device. The driver was arrested and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A breath test recorded readings over the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mgs) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Grey Bruce OPP have charged Kristen CHARETTE, 31 years-of-age, from South Bruce Peninsula, with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) and operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CCC.
The accused’s driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.
The accused must attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 4, 2021.
