Human Remains Found Near Mount Forest

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after human remains were located in Wellington North Township.

On May 4, 2021, shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a location, just south of Mount Forest, where an individual had reported finding remains in the bush in a rural area.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario (OCCO). 

A post-mortem examination will be conducted in an attempt to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.

Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

The investigation is in the early stages and more information will be released when it becomes available.

19 Year Old Caught Going 2X Speed Limit – Vehicle Impounded

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind all drivers that speeding by over 50 km/h over the limit will cost you big time. 

An expensive fine, immediate licence suspension, vehicle impoundment, demerit points and a court date are just some of the consequences you can expect.    

On May 4, 2021 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was parked in Woodham conducting stationary RADAR observations of vehicles when he spotted a vehicle racing southbound on Road 164. A RADAR device was used and the speed of the racing pickup was measured at a speed more than double the 60 km/h speed limit. 

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was subsequently charged. Trevor DEJONG, 19 years of age from West Perth has been charged with Perform a Stunt – Speeding by 50 km/h or more. He will now have to attend Provincial Offences Act court on June 15, 2021 to answer to the charge.

His driver’s licence has been suspended and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a week.

ALERT: Purple Fentanyl In Area – Nathan NIGH Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 30 year old individual with a criminal offence after a traffic stop in West Perth on April 23, 2021.

On April 23 2021, just after 12:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 34, after it caught the eye of an officer for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

A traffic stop was conducted and the officer initiated an investigation after observing drug paraphernalia. The driver was found to be in possession of purple fentanyl. 

As a result, Nathan NIGH, 30, of Seaforth, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Fatal Collision – Name Of Deceased Released

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On Tuesday May 04, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Perth County Paramedic Services, and the Perth East Fire Department responded to a fatal two vehicle motor vehicle collision at Perth Road 131 at Perth Line 72, in the Township of Perth East. 

David GASCHO, 84-years-old, of Milverton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are assisting Perth County OPP with the investigation.

The areas surrounding Perth County Line 72 and Perth Road 131 remains closed for the protection of emergency responders and to facilitate the investigation, and will likely be closed until approximately 7:00pm.

Man Pinned Under Car Rescued

(HURON EAST, ON) – A citizen that heard a call for help and took some action led to the discovery of a man trapped beneath a vehicle early this morning in Seaforth.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a Seaforth resident that reported they could hear someone yelling for help. OPP officers responded to the Coleman Street area and soon after an officer started hearing the same calls for help. Shortly after the investigating officer tracked the sound to the Seaforth Lion’s Park on Huron Road where they found a male pinned beneath a four-door hatchback. 

Huron County Paramedic Services and Huron East Fire Department arrived on scene and the fire crew was able to jack up the car and safely remove the trapped man. The injured 34-year-old was transported to hospital where he was later treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators learned the victim had been doing some work on the exhaust of his car when the jack shifted causing the car to drop and trap him below.

Huron OPP would like to thank the caller for taking immediate action and making the call to police.

Impaired Driver Arrested In Mildmay

(MILDMAY, ON) – On May 3, 2021 at 12:42 a.m., a member of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped to check a vehicle along Absalom Street east in Mildmay. The officer noted the driver was showing signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and transported to the South Bruce OPP Detachment where they completed an evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). Upon completion of the evaluation, the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

Joshua KING, 35-years-old, of Carrick Township, was charged with Impaired Driving and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, 2021 to answer to the charges.

This charge includes an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment and an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension.

Mobility Scooter Stolen In Seaforth

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking tips from the public to help track down a personal mobility scooter that was stolen from a residence in Seaforth last week.

The stolen electric mobility scooter was taken from a Sills Street home sometime between 3:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on April 26, 2021. The stolen scooter is described as a maroon and black Pegasus, Model Come XL valued at approximately $1,200. The scooter had a crack on the right front side.

The stolen scooter is valued at roughly $1,200.

19 Year Old Arrested In Seaforth – Assault, Concealed Weapon, etc.

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Seaforth resident is facing a number of charges following a neighbour dispute that turned physical this past weekend in Seaforth.

On May 2, 2021 at approximately 10:26 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an apartment complex in Seaforth to investigate a dispute between two neighbours. 

The subsequent investigation revealed the accused and victim exchanged some heated words and this led to a physical altercation. The accused accessed a weapon he was carrying and began to swing it at the accused causing minor injuries to the victim. The investigation also revealed the accused destroyed two vehicle windows of the victim’s vehicle. 

Jayden VANALLEN, 19 years of age from Seaforth was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges:

·        Assault with a Weapon

·        Mischief Under $5,000

·        Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

·        Carrying a Concealed Weapon

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 4, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

BOLO Stolen Tractor

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is on the lookout for a farm tractor that was stolen this past weekend from a Morrison Line property.

The stolen tractor was taken from the residence sometime between 5:30 p.m. on May 1 and 4:30 p.m. on May 2, 2021. 

The tractor is described as an orange Kubota farm tractor, model LA854 with a front loader and a red, snow blower attached to the rear. The tractor is valued at $35,000.

Methamphetamine Bust – HARPER & GIBSON

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – On April 26 2021, just after 10:00 p.m., the Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Wellington County CSCU conducted a traffic stop on Sixth Line, Guelph-Eramosa Township in Wellington County, after a drug trafficking investigation. The two occupants of the vehicle were found in possession of Methamphetamine and Hydromorphone, as well as a number of memorial plaques, which were later determined to be stolen. The total estimated value of the drugs is approximately $1,800.

As a result, Kevin HARPER, 28, of Grand Valley, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

Also, Shandy-Lee GIBSON, 33, of Palmerston, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

The accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Hit & Run – KONG

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On May 2, 2021, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hanlon Parkway at Maltby Road in Puslinch Township.

One driver attempted to leave the scene on foot, but was taken into custody by responding officers.

Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver later underwent further testing.

Ryan KONG, 45-years-old of Mississauga, has been charged with;

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug
  • Operation While Impaired-Over 80
  • Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Prohibited
  • Flight From Police
  • Fail to Render Assistance
  • Fail to Give Required Information

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 18, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Mount Forest Methamphetamine Bust – Justin Jeremy LOZON

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On April 30, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a vehicle that was parked at a business on Main Street South in Mount Forest.

  While speaking with the occupants, officers determined that a passenger was failing to comply with several court orders.

  Upon arrest, police recovered a quantity of methamphetamines and a prohibited weapon.

Justin Jeremy LOZON, 34-years-old from Mount Forest has been charged with;

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order (2 counts)
  •  Fail to Comply with Undertaking (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance-Methamphetamine

The Accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 18, 2021 to answer to the charges.

72 Year Old Arrested After Collision On Blyth Road

(HURON EAST, ON) – A driver from the Bradford area will have to make a return trip to Huron County later this spring for a court appearance after he was charged this past weekend for Impaired Operation.

At approximately midnight on May 2, 2021 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Blyth Road and McNaught Line.

Upon arrival investigators located a vehicle approximately 100 metres off the roadway, south of Blyth Road in the field. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver was displaying several signs of impairment. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two breath samples were provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Anthony COLBERS, 72 years of age from Bradford-West Gwillimbury has been charged with Operation While Impaired & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 14, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. The accused’s vehicle was towed and impounded. Additionally, he was served with an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension.

Drunk Driver Vs Tree – 27 Year Old Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, ON) – On May 1, 2021, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Concession 2 east of Lake Road in Puslinch Township.

It was reported that a pickup truck left the road and struck a tree. Witnesses told police that the driver fled the scene on foot.

The Wellington County OPP Canine Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) were dispatched to assist in the search for the driver. 

Police later located the driver at a residence in the area. Police spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and underwent further testing.

Maxwel Anthony BATURA, 27-years-old of Cambridge, has been charged with;

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug
  • Operation While Impaired-Over 80
  • Fail to Remain
  • Operate Motor Vehicle-No Insurance
  • Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The Accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 18, 2021 to answer to the charges.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.

Arson Charge Laid In House Fire

(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) On May 1, 2021 at 5:14 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a fully engulfed house fire at a residence on Highway 21, in the Saugeen First Nation. 

Members from the Saugeen First Nation Fire Department attended the scene, extinguished the fire and confirmed that the fire appeared to be deliberately set. There were no occupants inside this residence at the time of the fire.

The Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted and consulted during this investigation.

A suspect was identified, who was observed near the residence and was treated at hospital for non-life threatening burns.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Crystalee PITAWANAKWAT, 40 years-of-age, from Saugeen First Nation, with the following offences:

  • Arson – damage to property, section 434 Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

The accused was held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2, 2021.
