Fatal Collision – Deceased Identified

(Southwest Middlesex, ON) – On Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at approximately 6:45 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Southwest Middlesex Fire and Middlesex-London EMS responded to reports of a serious two vehicle collision, at the intersection of Longwoods Road and Hagerty Road., in Wardsville, ON., Southwest Middlesex.

Police are currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation but have confirmed one person has died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The deceased has been identified as Frances LABADIE – age 78- of Dutton-Dunwich Township.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team was deployed to the area to assist with the investigation.

Impaired Charge In Clifford

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On May 10, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received multiple traffic complaints involving a passenger vehicle that was driving around the community of Clifford. 

Police responded to the area located the vehicle on Mill Street East. While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by the consumption of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

Stephen Russel GIRODAT, 29-years-old of Brantford has been charged with Impaired Operation- Drug or Alcohol and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood).

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The Accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on May 18, 2021 to answer to the charges.

Impaired Charge In Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On April 26, 2021, just after 7:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a possible impaired driver in the area of Listowel Memorial Park, near Royal Street, in the Municipality of North Perth. Police located the driver, who was showing signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment where a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) conducted a series of tests, and the driver was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

As a result, Douglas RAYSON, 59, of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with:

         – Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

A 90-day driving suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Man From Mount Forest Arrested – Two Officers Injured

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On May 7, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an intoxicated person on Queen Street West in the Town of Mount Forest.

OPP attended and located the suspect on the street. An officer attempted to arrest the suspect for public intoxication. The person resisted arrest, assaulted police, and then tried to disarm an officer. A second officer was also assaulted when they arrived to assist.

Two OPP officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Justin HUNTER-BECHARD, 35-years-old of Mount Forest has been charged with two counts of Assault a Peace Officer, Disarming a Peace Officer and Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest. The Accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on June 8, 2021.

Another Pickup Truck Stolen

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate a recent theft of a pickup truck that took place east of Exeter. 

On Monday, May 10, 2021 at approximately 11:50 p.m. two suspects arrived at a residence located on Sunshine Line. One of the suspects proceeded to enter into an unlocked pickup truck and in no time at all the thief located the keys to the vehicle and proceeded to drive off heading northbound on Sunshine Line.

Approximately 4 hours later the stolen vehicle was observed in Mitchell. Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle however the driver failed to stop and took off from police. Then last night around 6:44 p.m. the driver and a passenger stopped at a gas station in Arkona whereupon they filled up the pickup with gas and took off without paying.

The stolen vehicle is described as a green, 2015 GMC Sierra 1500, four-wheel drive pickup truck with a tonneau cover.

64 Year Old Has Vehicle Impounded

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Stratford resident is facing a court date following a Racing charge laid by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). 

On Monday, May 10, 2021 at approximately 6:37 p.m. a member with the OPP West Region Highway Safety Division was patrolling on North Line east of Walton when the officer observed a sport utility vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed above the posted 90 km/h zone limit. A RADAR device was utilized to measure the speed of the vehicle and it accurately measured the vehicle’s speed in excess of 140 km/h. 

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was subsequently charged. 

Jose REBELO, 64 years of age from Stratford has been charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. He now has a court date scheduled for July 6, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich to answer to the charge. 

His motor vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for seven days.

Blyth Methamphetamine Bust – CHAPMAN & UPSHALL

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged both a driver and a passenger following a traffic stop conducted last week north of Blyth.

On May 6, 2021 at approximately 2:43 p.m. a Huron OPP officer was patrolling northbound on London Road when the officer came across a southbound sedan that was pulling an utility trailer. The investigating officer recognized both the driver and passenger as two individuals wanted on outstanding warrants.  Consequently the officer followed the vehicle a short distance to a private drive where the vehicle came to a stop. 

The driver was immediately placed under arrest and shortly after the passenger was also taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in police seizing a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. 

Michael CHAPMAN, 51 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with the following new criminal charges: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 11, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Katherine UPSHALL, 46 years of age from Central Huron is facing the following new charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Mischief Under $5,000

The accused was remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 11, 2021.

Michael PHIPPS – Drunk Driving

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On April 23, 2021, just before 8:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting an investigation into a possible impaired driver in the Municipality of West Perth. Police located the suspect and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Michael PHIPPS, 44, of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with:

  •  Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

21 Year Old Has Vehicle Impounded For 7 Days

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Wellington County driver after they were speeding more than 80km/h over the limit in North Perth.

On April 26 2020, just after 12:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on the Perth Line 86, in the Municipality of North Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 160km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Nathan REDMILE, 21, of Puslinch Township, has been charged with:

  • Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

3 Impaired Charges In One Night

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Impaired drivers continue to be a risk on the roads of Perth County, as three more were charged over the course of one night last weekend.

On May 7, 2021, just before 09:00 p.m., a member of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle in the Township of Perth East. The driver displayed signs of impairment, and was subsequently arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, Jason WAGATHA, 46, of the Township of Perth East, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

On May 7, 2021, just before 10:00 p.m., a motor vehicle entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program conducted by Perth County OPP on Perth Line 20, in the Municipality of West Perth. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Nicole PHILLIPS, 32, of Petrolia, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

On May 8, 2021, just before 01:00 a.m., Perth County OPP were in Milverton, in the Township of Perth East, conducting an investigation when they observed a person they were currently seeking operating a motor vehicle. During the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Jacobo HIEBERT-DYCK, 22, of the Township of Perth East, has been charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while Under Suspension
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle

In each incident, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. All accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

21 Year Old Caught Going 150 in a 90

(HURON EAST, ON) –  A Scarborough resident is facing a Stunt Driving charge following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) this past weekend. 

On May 8, 2021 at approximately 7:40 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer was conducting RADAR patrols on Mill Road east of Brucefield when the officer observed a compact car travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. A RADAR device was utilized to check on the speed of the vehicle and it measured a speed in excess of 150 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. 

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was subsequently charged. Parmeet SINGH, 21 years of age from Scarborough has been charged with Perform a Stunt – Speeding by 50 km/h or more. The driver will now have to attend Provincial Offences Act court on June 15, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich to answer to the charge.

In addition, the driver was served with an automatic 7-day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded

Donna HINDMARSH -Passed Out Behind Wheel

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A South Huron resident is facing Impaired Operation charges after police responded to a call about a driver passed out behind the wheel.

On Thursday, May 6, 2021 at approximately 6:24 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to Ausable Line near Crediton Road to investigate a possible impaired driver stopped on the shoulder of the road. A concerned citizen stopped and checked on the driver and found the driver passed out behind the wheel. 

Upon arrival the investigating officer spoke with the driver and immediately observed the driver to be experiencing signs of impairment. As a result the driver was arrested for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver later provided two samples of breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be over the legal limit. 

Donna HINDMARSH, 36 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 21, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. The accused’s vehicle was towed and impounded. Additionally, an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension was served on the driver.

William James ANDREWS – Drunk Driving

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On May 5, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver on Speedvale Avenue west, just outside Guelph.

Officer located the vehicle and commenced an investigation.

As a result, William James ANDREWS, 33-years-old of Toronto has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.

John YASCHUK – Drunk Driving

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – On Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2:39 p.m., an officer with the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an impaired driver near the King Edward Street area of Paris. The subject vehicle was located and Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Brant County OPP detachment, where further tests were administered.

Police have charged John YASCHUK, 69 years-of-age from Paris, Ontario with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario at a later date.

As a result, Michael PITTMAN, 45-years-old of Fergus has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. 

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.
