Theft: Kevin MALTAIS & Joel GIROUARD

(MATHESON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested two people for theft of copper wire.

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft in progress on Vimy Ridge Road in Matheson. The suspects fled the scene, however, were located and arrested a short time later.

The investigation revealed one of the suspects was responsible for two other thefts in Matheson which occurred on September 14, 2025, and February 14, 2025. The estimated value of the theft is approximately $50,000.

As a result, Joel GIROUARD, 56 years old, of Rochebaucourt, Quebec was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Theft over 5,000 – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – three counts
  • Mischief over $5,000 – three counts

Kevin MALTAIS, 47 years old, of Point Aux Outardes, Quebec was also charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Mischief over $5,000

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 13, 2025, in Timmins.
