(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an aggressive dog, described as a pit bull. that attacked a pedestrian in the Village of Hensall, Municipality of Bluewater on October 16th just before 1:00 p.m.
Officers arrived on scene and located the dog running at large.
The dog remained aggressive and posed an immediate threat to public safety. One of the responding officers discharged their firearm toward the dog, which then fled the area. It is believed that the dog may have been struck, but its condition is currently unknown.
The injured individual was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The dog fled southbound through the community near an elementary school, which was contacted by police to keep students indoors. Officers observed the dog running through a farm field south of Hensall and into a wooded area just west of London Road.
The dog is described as a “pit bull” type breed weighing approximately 120 pounds, predominantly white in colour with some black fur.
Police attended the residences in the area to advise them of the ongoing search.
The public is advised to contact OPP at either 911 or 1-888-310-1122 if this dog is observed. Do not try to capture the animal.
