(PETERBOROUGH COUNTY, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged multiple individuals with impaired over the last days of August 2025.
On Friday August 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00pm, while on patrol on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, a Peterborough County OPP officer received a notification through their In-Car Camera’ (ICC) advising of a vehicle ahead of them with an expired permit. The officer stopped the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Omar VELASCO FERNANDEZ (age 42) of North York, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Drive motor vehicle – no licence
• Drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit
• Fail to surrender insurance card
• Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
• Insecure load
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 16, 2025.
On Wednesday August 27, 2025, at approximately 10:00am, Peterborough County OPP officers received a received a traffic complaint related to a vehicle that had been travelling on Highway 7 approaching Norwood. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined them to be impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Christopher REICHERT (age 46) of Marmora, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Opioid
• Novice driver – presence of drug
• Possess more than one licence
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 7, 2025.
On Friday August 29, 2025, shortly after 7:00pm, officers from the Peterborough County OPP received a call where the caller advised they had witnessed a vehicle that had just sustained damage on Highway 28 in North Kawartha Township and then continued on a short distance before stopping. Officers located the vehicle and after speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County detachment for further testing.
Paul BEECHER (age 55) of Whitby, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 23, 2025.
On Friday August 29, 2025, at approximately 10:30pm, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Buckhorn Road in Selwyn Township. The officer conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined them to be impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Connor PATEL (age 24) of Buckhorn, ON., was arrested and charged with;
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Speeding
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 7, 2025.
On Saturday August 30, 2025, a Peterborough County OPP officer was patrolling Highway 7 through the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen when they received an alert from their In-Car Camera advising of a stolen vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested. During the interaction with the driver, the officer determined them to be impaired. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Timothy PARIS (age 54) of Brampton, ON, was arrested and charged with:
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts
• Fail to comply with Probation Order
• Driving while under suspension
The accused had their driver’s licence further suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 7, 2025.
On Sunday August 31, 2025, Peterborough County OPP officers were dispatched to a call relating to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). Information was provided that a couple were fighting, and one individual was observed striking another. The pair were then observed leaving the area on a motorcycle. Officers located the motorcycle and after speaking with the two individuals, an arrest was made. While speaking with the couple, the officer determined that the driver of the motorcycle was impaired, and a second arrest was made.
A 24-year-old female was arrested and charged with:
• Assault – Spousal
• Fail to comply with Probation Order
A 29-year-old male was arrested and charged with:
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Dangerous operation
• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
• Drive motor vehicle – no licence
• Drive motor vehicle – no plates
• Drive motor vehicle – no permit
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Fail to stop for police
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
Both accused have future court dates to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
On Sunday August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP received a call where the caller advised they saw a vehicle had gone into the ditch on County Road 36 in the Municipality of Trent Lakes. Officers arrived on scene and were told that the vehicle had been removed from the ditch and continued on with extensive damage. Officers located the vehicle a short distance away and after speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
John BAYE (age 67) of Trent Lakes, ON., was arrested and charged with:
• Operation while impaired
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 14, 2025.
