More Charges In Stabbing Investigation

A Guelph woman faces assault and robbery charges following an ongoing investigation into a stabbing earlier this month at a north-end apartment.

The evening of August 5, a group of people were inside an apartment near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue when an argument broke out between two men who had not met before. The argument became physical and one of the men sustained an injury to his leg.

A man in his 40s was transported to hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled the unit but was later located in the area with assistance from a Waterloo Regional Police Service canine unit. The knife was also recovered after being thrown into a neighbouring yard. Investigation revealed the man is on probation with terms including not to attend the address where the assault occurred, not to have contact with a woman who was also present and not to possess weapons.

A 24-year-old Guelph man was earlier charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and five counts of breaching probation orders.

Following the original investigation, a 21-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for failing to comply with a bail order and breaching a conditional sentence. As a result of the ongoing investigation, she has also now been charged with being a party to aggravated assault, robbery and mischief to data.

Both accused remain in custody.
