Man arrested after walking into house

A Guelph man was arrested Monday evening after walking into a house while the owner and her young son were home.

Just before 7:30 p.m. police received several calls about a male yelling in the area of Waterloo Avenue and Hearn Avenue. One resident and her 13-year-old son were looking at the male out a second-floor window when they saw him approaching their house and heard him come inside.

They locked themselves in a bedroom and could hear the male walking around the house yelling. Officers arrived minutes later, entering the home and seeing the male walking down the stairs from the second floor.

A 51-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

Store manager pushed, spat upon

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a store manager was pushed and spat upon while attempting to remove a shoplifter Sunday afternoon.

Just before 2 p.m. police were dispatched to a physical disturbance outside a business near Woodlawn Road and Woolwich Street. The manager had spotted a woman who was previously banned from the store and saw her concealing merchandise.

As he was attempting to escort her from the store, a male accomplice approached and shoved the manager. Both suspects then spat in the victim’s face before fleeing. The manager was not physically injured.

The suspects were described as a white male with a bald head, wearing shorts and a t-shirt and a white female wearing a light blue jacket.

VW Jetta stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from a south-end driveway.

Just after 7 a.m. Monday, a resident near Carrington Drive and Harts Lane West reported her silver 2020 Jetta had been stolen overnight.

Personal property including cash, a jacket and perfume were inside the vehicle.
