18 Year Old Arrested – Details Released

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges Moorefield resident with four charges stemming from a fail to stop occurrence.

On August 4, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were performing a traffic enforcement initiative and observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, to which a traffic stop was attempted to be initiated Wellington Road 12, within Mapleton Township, when the vehicle involved failed to stop for police.

Shortly thereafter, officers patrolling the area located the vehicle involved and conducted an investigation. As a result, Brett HIDDEMA, an 18-year-old of Moorefield was charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Fail to stop for police
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Flight from peace officer

Anyone charged with ‘drive motor vehicle – perform stunt’ receives a 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph at a later date.
