(GORE BAY, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged for impaired operation following a traffic hazard complaint on Highway 540 in the Township of Billings.
On November 24, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic hazard call on Highway 540 in the Township of Billings. Officers attended the location, and found a pickup truck parked in the middle of the road, with the driver asleep at the wheel. The driver was arrested on scene and transported to the Little Current detachment for further testing.
As a result, the driver, Howard CORBIERE, 66-years-old from M’Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Refusal to comply with demand
- Dangerous operation
The driver’s licence was suspended, and the pickup truck was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 7, 2024.
