King Charles Lost $1,396,163.32 In Brant & Haldimand Counties

(BRANT AND HALDIMAND COUNTIES, ON) � April 25, 2024 � In a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Haldimand OPP, and HSD/TIME, a two-day initiative conducted on April 22 and 25, 2024, resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of unstamped contraband cigarettes in Brant and Haldimand Counties.
A total of 8,422,800 unstamped contraband cigarettes, equivalent to 842.3 cases, were seized during the operation. This significant seizure represents a significant tax loss to both the Province of Ontario and His Majesty the King.
The tax loss to the Province of Ontario is estimated at $1,556,112.30, calculated at $0.18475 per cigarette. Similarly, the tax loss to His Majesty the King is estimated at $1,396,163.32, calculated at $0.16576 per cigarette. The total tax loss recovered from the seizure amounts to $2,952,275.63.

The operation involved two specific stops, yielding significant results:
April 22, 2024 � Haldimand Stop:
Seized: 2 cases and 14 cartons of unmarked cigarettes
Charged: A 62-year-old male from St. Catharines under TTA s. 29(1), 29(2)
April 25, 2024 � Brant Stop:
Seized: 42,000 cartons of unmarked cigarettes (840 cases)
Charged: A 40-year-old male from Brantford under TTA s. 29(1), 29(2)
