Stephane DESCOTEAUX Facing Numerous Charges

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a suspect in connection with a fraud case involving the double presentment of cheques, where the same cheque was deposited twice.

In November 2023, the OPP launched an investigation after a business reported several instances of cheques being deposited twice. Through a production order and further investigation, officers determined that 18 cheques had been fraudulently processed a second time, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately $12,000.

As a result of the investigation, on October 2, 2024, Stephane DESCOTEAUX, 32-years-of-age from West Nipissing was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fraud over $5000
  • Fraud under $5000 (18 counts)
  • Obtain credit by false pretenses or fraud (18 counts)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 7, 2024.

Intentionally depositing a cheque more than once is considered fraud under the Canadian Criminal Code. Fraud is a serious criminal offence, punishable by imprisonment.

One Dead – Andre AYOTTE Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges on the driver involved in the fatal collision.

On August 23, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, west of Verner, West Nipissing.

Two passenger vehicles were involved in the collision, where one person was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another person was transported to the local hospital by EMS.

The highway was closed in both directions for just over seven and half hours.

As a result of the investigation, Andre AYOTTE, 35-years-of-age, from Verner was arrested and charged with:

  • Careless driving causing death
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in North Bay.

Marie PIUZE – Impaired Driving

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged after police investigated a single motor vehicle rollover.

On September 18, 2024, at approximately 11:17 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

During the investigation, the highway was closed in both directions from Warren to Verner for just over two hours

The lone driver received minor injuries and was transported to the local hospital by EMS.

As a result of the investigation, Marie PIUZE, 38 years-of-age, from Montreal QC, was arrested and charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and dangerous driving

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Gabrielle LABRECHE-KALNINS Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after police responded to a single motor vehicle collision.

On September 16, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The lone driver received minor injuries and was transported to the local hospital by EMS.

A search of the vehicle located open alcohol and cannabis.

As a result of the investigation, Gabrielle LABRECHE-KALNINS, 22 years-of-age, from North Bay, was arrested and charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and having both liquor and cannabis readily available in the vehicle.

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on November 7, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Francis LANDRY Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged a driver with impaired driving after investigating a traffic hazard.

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 12:58 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic hazard blocking the roadway on Pine Street, West Nipissing.

Police located a low-speed mobile scooter stationary in the middle of the road. The operator was arrested for impaired driving and then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Francis LANDRY, 95 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension.

Angel LEGAULT Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged one person, after a report of property damaged.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a dispute at a residence on Young Street, West Nipissing.

One person attended the property and damaged a window on the residence.

As a result of the investigation, Angel LEGAULT, 26 years-of-age, from West Nipissing was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in North Bay.

4 Charged With Break & Enter – Names Release

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged four people after a report of a break and enter.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter at a vacant residence on Highway 539, West Nipissing.

Police located four people in the residence, who were arrested. A search of one person located drugs suspected to be Methamphetamine and opioid.

As a result of the investigation, Nicole WEMIGWANS, 58 years-of-age, Justyn LARENTE, 43 years-of-age, Robert BOUFFARD, 62 years-of-age and Annette McKEEN, 64 years-of-age, all from West Nipissing, were charged with unlawfully in a dwelling house.

McKEEN was additionally charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts.

All four accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 5, 2024, in North Bay.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged two people with drug related offences after a traffic stop.

On July 23, 2024, shortly after 2:30 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed the passenger of a vehicle not wearing a seatbelt and conducted a traffic stop on Front Street, West Nipissing.

As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested for being a suspended driver and the passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

A search located Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs.

Onofrio DI PISA, 55 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – three counts
  • Driving under licence of other jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage

Nicole REES, 40 years-of-age, from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – three counts
  • Passenger – fail to properly wear seat belt

Both accused were held for Bail Court and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 24, 2024, in North Bay.

Mason FEX Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual after conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On June 29, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers conducted a RIDE program on Ottawa Street, West Nipissing. A motor vehicle approached the officers conducting the program, as a result of the investigation the driver was arrested for impaired driving.

Mason FEX, 28-year-old from West Nipissing, was charged with, operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration over 80 and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 1, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Attempted Armed Robbery: Names Released

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged three people with attempted robbery and related offences after an investigation in West Nipissing.

On June 21, 2024, shortly before 12:00 p.m., members from the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit and OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit arrested three people on Des Cedres Street.

As a result of the investigation, three individuals were charged.

Keino HEATH, 32 years of age of Oshawa, David NEWMAN, 27 years of age of Caledon, and Roderick NEWMAN, 32 years of age of Cobourg, were all charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence, section 465(1)(c)
  • Attempted Robbery with violence, section 343(a)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, section 354(1)(a)

The accused were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 25, 2024.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Nathan ROSENE Arrested Again

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged one person after a trespassing complaint.

On June 11, 2024, shortly before 12:00 a.m., Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a person trespassing on private property on Front Street, West Nipissing.

The individual provided police with a false name and was arrested for obstruct police. A search of the individual located a prohibited device, break and enter tools and an edged weapon.

As a result of the investigation, Nathan ROSENE, a 30-years-old person, from Sault Ste. Marie, was charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order- seven counts

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 13, 2024.

Lucille MIRON Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged one person after a report of an unwanted person on the property.

On June 10, 2024, shortly before 9:30 a.m., Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person at a residence on Demers Street, West Nipissing.

No injuries were reported when the unwanted person damaged property and assaulted the homeowner.

As a result of the investigation, Lucille MIRON, 39-years-old person, from West Nipissing, was charged with, mischief – destroys or damages property and assault.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 4, 2024.

Drug Bust – 2 Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged two people with drug related offences.

On June 6, 2024, members from the Community Street Crime (CSC) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), executed a Controlled Drug Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on King Street, West Nipissing.

A search of the residence led to the seizure of drug paraphernalia, Canadian and U.S. currency, digital scales, air gun and drugs suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, opioid and cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, two people have been arrested, Chantel DUCHANE, 42-years-of-age, from West Nipissing and Darcy YOUNG, 32-years-of-age from Garden Village Nipissing First Nation, both were charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Production of anything for use in, production of/trafficking in, schedule I or schedule III substance

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 3, 2023, in North Bay.

Katja POWER – Drunk Driving

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – Police arrested and charged the driver with impaired driving after investigating a single motor vehicle collision.

On May 30, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a single motor vehicle collision into a swampy area off Highway 17, West Nipissing.

No injuries were reported by the driver and as a result of the investigation, the driver Katja POWER, 66 years-of -age, from St. Charles was arrested and charged with, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 4, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

McNABB & CLARK Arrested For Drug Trafficking

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – A driver and passenger have been arrested and charged by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), after locating them sleeping in a parked vehicle.

On May 29, 2024, shortly before 7:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation with a parked vehicle on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The two occupants were sleeping inside the vehicle and were arrested, after police located and seized drugs suspected to be Cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $12,000.

It was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation the driver, Natasha CLARK, 38 years-of-age, from West Lethbridge, AB, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – (three counts)
  • Possession of a schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking

While the passenger, Tannis McNABB, 28 years-of-age, from Lethbridge, AB, was charged with, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – (three counts) and possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking

Both the accused were release and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 4, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
