Fatal Hit & Run – Suspect & Large

(WALPOLE ISLAND FIRST NATION, ON) – One person is dead following a fail to remain motor vehicle collision on Austin Road, Walpole Island First Nation.  

On August 25, 2024, at approximately 2:56 a.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Walpole Island First Nation Police and emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Investigation determined that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on the roadway, which then fled the scene.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old of Walpole Island First Nation, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Austin Road, between Creek Road and River Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened. Information and updates will be provided when they become available.

West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team is assisting with the investigation and encourages anyone with pertinent information to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.

Shots Fired – Two Arrested – Details Released

(WALPOLE ISLAND FIRST NATION, ON) – On April 1, 2024, at 3:50 p.m., members of the Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS) and Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding an individual being shot at by two individuals on Dump Road.    

Officers attended and confirmed no individuals had been injured. Empty firearm casings were observed on the ground in the area. A description of the suspects was obtained, which led to the officers locating and arresting them without incident.

Seneca DAY, 40-years-old of Walpole Island First Nation, and Tyler TAYLOR, 27-years-old of Chatham, have been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose,
  • Pointing a firearm and,
  • Discharge firearm with intent.

DAY is also facing two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance after a search revealed a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine.

The accused have been remanded into custody following a bail hearing.

Jason KIYOSHK Arrested For Drunk Driving

(WALPOLE ISLAND FIRST NATION, ON) – On March 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., members of the Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS) were notified of a single-vehicle collision on Brother Road.

Officers attended the scene and, upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the individual was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples of breath above the legal limit.

Jason KIYOSHK, 41-years-old of Walpole Island First Nation, has been charged with the following:

·      Operation While Impaired and,

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). 

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia at a later date.
