Barricaded Person In Harriston In Custody

(HARRISTON, ON) – On April 19, 2020, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a tenant barricaded in a residence with a weapon at an Elizabeth Street apartment complex in the Town of Harriston.

Police gained entry to the apartment and arrested an individual without incident. Further investigation revealed the presence of a suspicious package. The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and members of Canadian Forces Base Borden attended the scene to remove the package for analysis and disposal. The package was later shown to be inert. Police seized a BB gun, a quantity of firearms ammunition and illicit drugs from the residence.

A 57-year-old male from Harriston is in custody and will appear in bail court via video link on today’s date. Further details will be released when available.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Criminals(s) Ransack Cottage Near Goderich

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a break-in that took place at a cottage located north of Goderich.

Investigation has revealed someone forced entry into a cottage located on Golf Course Road sometime between April 4th and April 15th, 2020. The cottage was ransacked and an assortment of low dollar value items were stolen.

Some of the stolen items included beach towels, a DVD player, children’s DVDs and a space heater.

Property owners are encouraged to have someone check on their vacation property on a frequent basis during the off-season” to ensure everything is secure. This tried and tested method is your best deterrent against property crime.

The OPP continue to appeal to persons living in and around trailer parks and/or seasonal homes to report any and all suspicious activity to police when it happens.

Suspended Driver Facing Drunk Driving Charge – DAIGLE

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On April 19, 2020 at 7:15 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a vehicle along Bruce County Road 2 in Brant Township. The officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Mathew DAIGLE, 35-years-old, from the Municipality of Petawawa was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive while Suspended. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2020 to answer to the charges.

38 Year Old Caught Going 130 in an 80

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On April 17, 2020, shortly after 09:30 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County detachment, observed a motor vehicle travelling on Perth Line 20. The vehicle was determined to be travelling at a rate of speed that was in excess of 130km/h in the posted 80km/h zone. During the investigation, the rear licence plate was found to be obstructed with a dark tinted cover.

Ryan BREMMERS, 38-years-old, of Ingersoll, was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offences:

Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed

Obstruct Plate

A seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

The penalties for Racing include six demerit points, a $2,000 – $10,000 fine, a possible extended driver’s licence suspension and up to 6 months in jail.

Drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limits at all times and drive cautiously as road conditions can change quickly.

Stolen ATV Recovered – Shalene PETERS Charged

(WEST PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after a stolen All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) was recovered at a residential property in West Perth on April 8 2020.

Police were notified by the homeowner after an ATV that did not belong to them was located on their property. The ATV had been painted and the VIN altered. Police were able to determine that the ATV had been stolen from a rural West Perth residence in March of 2019.

As a result of the investigation, Shalene PETERS, 32, of North Middlesex, has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000

Altering/Destroying/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 15 2020, to answer to the charges.

The OPP reminds all property owners to lock their homes, outbuildings, and vehicles (including ATVs), and to remove the keys. The public is also asked to report suspicious activity immediately.

Explosive Disposal Unit In Harriston – Town Of Minto Assisting In Accommodating Those Displaced #StandYourGround #ShovelJustice

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – On April 19, 2020, at approximately 3:45 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a tenant with weapon at an apartment complex on Elizabeth Street in the Town of Harriston. It was reported a 57-year-old resident was observed with a hand gun.

Police responded and arrested the suspect. An air soft hand gun was located in the apartment as was a suspicious package. The building has been evacuated and the Explosive Disposal Unit (E.D.U.) is being consulted. The Town of Minto is assisting in accommodating the displaced residents.

The investigation is ongoing.

OPP Investigating Death of Infant

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – On April 17, 2020 shortly before 12:00 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment, Simcoe County Paramedics and the Town of Wasaga Beach Fire Service responded to a child in distress at a residence in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

An 11-month-old boy was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Members of the OPP Huronia West Detachment are assisting the Office of the Chief Coroner with this death investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). A post mortem examination has been scheduled at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.

Fatal Collision

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On Friday April 17, 2020, at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Imperial Road, Malahide Township.

Members of the OPP, Malahide Fire Services and Elgin County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended and located the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team attended to assist with the investigation. The road was closed for several hours and has since reopened.

Break In To Seasonal Home

Methamphetamine Bust In Vanastra

(HURON EAST, ON) – A London resident is now facing drug trafficking charges following an investigation conducted by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment & the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU).

On April 16, 2020 at approximately 9:43 p.m. as a result of drug trafficking investigation OPP members initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on 12th Street in Vanastra. A subsequent search of the driver and the vehicle resulted in officers locating and seizing methamphetamine and suspected fentanyl. In addition, officers seized Canadian currency and drug trafficking paraphernalia consisting of drug packaging materials, a digital scale and a cell phone. Further, the motor vehicle was seized as offence related property.

The combined estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is $1,775 and the value of the seized property is estimated at $5,200.

Susan COOPER, 36 years of age from London has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purposes of Trafficking and Possession of Fentanyl. She has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 29, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Repeat Offender Arrested In LIstowel – CLUETT

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested a male after he fled from police in a vehicle on two separate occasions.

During a police investigation, the suspect vehicle was found to have stolen licence plates attached to it. When police attempted to stop the vehicle in North Perth shortly after 2:00 p.m. April 13 2020, the male driver drove away in a dangerous manner. Prior to the driver fleeing the scene, however, police were able to identify the driver.

The following day, the same vehicle was found to be driving again, and the same driver was identified before fleeing the scene and almost causing a head-on collision. Police were able to locate the vehicle moments later at a residence on Richmond Avenue North in Listowel, where the male was arrested without incident.

As a result, Joseph David CLUETT, 24, of Mitchell, is charged with the following criminal offences:

Dangerous Operation (two counts)

Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)

Flight from Police

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (under $5000)

Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Prohibited Driver Charged – YOUNG

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On April 15, 2020 at 8:20 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle that was attempting to access commercial property along Bruce County Road 20 in the Municipality of Kincardine. Officers arrived and found that the driver didn’t have a licence.

Terry YOUNG, 43-years-old, of Brant Township was charged with Drive while Prohibited. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 8, 2020 to answer to the charge.

This charge includes an automatic 45 day vehicle impoundment.

Rash Of Suspicious Fires In Minto

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying those responsible for setting several suspicious fires around the White’s Road Junction Trail in the village of Palmerston, Town of Minto.

The Wellington County OPP along with the Town of Minto Fire Department are working collaboratively investigating the following suspicious fires that have occurred over the past several months:

January 8, 2019 – Bridge fire on closed portion of walking trail

March 27, 2019 – Grass fire on side of walking trail

April 4, 2019 – Clothing drop box – King Street (LCBO lot)

July 6, 2019 – Bridge fire on closed portion of walking trail

July 29, 2019 – Porta-Potty fire at ball diamond

September 2, 2019 – Garbage fire – William Street

September 2, 2019 – Tree fire on walking trail

September 20, 2019 – Garbage fire just off walking trail

March 12, 2020 – Tree fire on Walking trail

March 16, 2020 – Scrap lumber fire at train station

April 3, 2020 – Bird Houses fire

April 11, 2020 – Tire Fire

These types of fires are more than just nuisances and a misuse of police and fire resources – they are criminal offences. Each fire that is intentionally set damages property and potentially could lead to injury or loss of life.

The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity on and around the White’s Road Junction Trail in Palmerston – to say something and report it.

$3000 Bicycle Stolen From Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of a bicycle from a residential garage in North Perth.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 12 2020, an unknown suspect entered the garage on Riverview Drive, Listowel, through a window. The suspect then left the property with a men’s green and black Cannondale mountain bicycle, valued at approximately $3000.
