Two Children Airlifted To Hospital Following Collision

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – On September 16, 2020 at 5:40 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a collision involving a horse and buggy along Bruce County Road 28 in Carrick Township. Officers responded with members of the Mildmay Fire Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to find there were seven people in the buggy at the time of the crash.

Two of the buggy occupants, an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old, were air lifted to a London hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) unit attended to assist the South Bruce OPP with the collision investigation.

Bruce County Road 28 was closed between Huron-Bruce Road and Concession 2 for the protection of emergency responders. It has since re-opened to traffic.

The investigation is continuing.

ATVs Stolen” After Keys Left In Ignition”

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are seeking tips from the public to help solve a recent theft case.

Huron OPP officers are on the search for two off-road vehicles that were stolen from a Maple Keys Line property last weekend. Sometime between 11:30 p.m. on September 11, 2020 and 12:00 p.m. on September 12, 2020 suspects entered into an unlocked drive shed at the property. Once inside the drive shed they located and stole two off-road vehicles that had been left with the keys in the ignition.

The machines are described as a 2012 orange Polaris Sportsman 550 A12 model 4X4 and a 2020 blue Ranger XP1000 side-by-side.

The combined value of the stolen machines is approximately $27,000.

Pickup Truck Stolen From Amberley Road

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating a recent theft of Dodge Dakota pickup truck that was stolen from an Amberley Road property earlier this week.

Sometime between 10:15 p.m. on September 13, 2020 and 6:30 p.m. last night the thief entered onto the Amberley Road property and stole the pickup truck.

The thief in this case had some mechanical knowledge as they had to install a working alternator on the vehicle as well as a battery. The stolen vehicle is described as a blue, 2004 Dodge Dakota with a topper on the box. The thief also stole an Ontario licence plate off of another vehicle that was parked on the property.

ATV Stolen From Business In Hensall

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating a theft of a Polaris All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that was stolen from a business this past weekend near Hensall.

Sometime between 3:20 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2020 two suspects arrived at the Airport Line business where they successfully stole a 2020 Polaris Sportsman ATV.

The suspects targeted the ATV and towed the vehicle off the property utilizing another ATV. The suspects were last seen travelling southbound on Airport Line with the stolen vehicle.

The stolen machine is described as a bronze coloured 2020 Polaris Sportsman, model 570 TRG. The machine is valued at $11,632.

One of the suspects was wearing a construction style jacket, dark pants and a helmet.

Morris-Turnberry Resident Facing Drunk Driving Charge – MACHAN

(HURON EAST, ON) – An early morning traffic stop on Sunday has led to a criminal charge against a driver from Morris-Turnberry.

At approximately 1:14 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2020 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint about a possible impaired driver spotted on Line 42 in West Perth. Officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and not long after the vehicle was observed travelling northbound on North Line at Winthrop Road.

A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed signs the driver had been drinking. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and was promptly transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver provided two samples of breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.

Jody MACHAN, 35 years of age, from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. She has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 2, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Officer Jumps On Slow Moving Vehicle While Driver Was Having Suspected Medical Event

(HURON EAST, ON) – A dangerous situation this morning on Highway 8 resulted in a safe resolution for everyone involved after a high-risk maneuver by an officer succeeded.

At approximately 7:49 a.m. this morning Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received two calls about a commercial truck that was travelling on Highway 8 in an erratic fashion. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle was westbound from Seaforth travelling at low speeds into the oncoming lane.

OPP officers responded and were able to locate the suspect vehicle near Front Road. Despite the numerous police vehicles following behind with lights and sirens activated the driver failed to stop. Spike belts were deployed and several tires were deflated however the vehicle continued trucking along at a slow speed.

With the knowledge the vehicle was approaching Clinton, near the school zones the level of urgency to get the vehicle stopped was extremely high. Without hesitation a senior member of the Huron OPP Crime Unit instinctively leapt onto the side of the truck and was able to get into the cab compartment. With the assistance of another officer they were able to get the truck stopped and the driver out of the vehicle.

Police are suspecting the driver was experiencing a medical related event however this remains under investigation.

Highway 8 between Clinton and Front Road re-opened to the public at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Arrest At RIDE – Daniel NEILLY

(MEAFORD, ON) – On September 11, 2020 at 9:58 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on the 10th Concession, near Grey Road 18, in the Municipality of Meaford.

The driver of a red pick-up truck was stopped and failed a roadside screening device. They were arrested and transported to the Markdale detachment for a breath test.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Daniel NEILLY, 39 years-of-age, from Meaford, with the following offences:

Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 milligrams or more, section 320.14(1)(b) CC

Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, section 32(1) Liquor Licence Act

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is required to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 19, 2020.

Maitland River Community Church Minister Arrested For Sexual Assault On Child – Simon CHIARELLO #EndTheDougClub #EndPedophilia

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – A recent investigation conducted by members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit has resulted in sexual assault and other sex-related offences being laid against a Youth Ministry Director from Wingham.

The charges stem from incidents that have taken place this year against a teen-aged victim. The accused works as a Youth Ministry Director for a church in Wingham, in addition, he is a Youth Director for a faith-based youth program in Wingham.

Huron County OPP has charged 29-year-old Simon CHIARELLO, from Wingham with the following offences:

Sexual Exploitation – Seven Counts

The accused was arrested on September 10, 2020 by members of the East Algoma OPP Detachment. He remains in custody with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Racing Charge Near School Zone – Atlas NGUYEN

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On September 10, 2020 at approximately 10:40 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic near a school zone and conducting radar on Fifth Line in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa. The officer observed a southbound motor vehicle travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

Atlas NGUYEN, 19-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice – Provincial Offences Court on December 2, 2020. The vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Too many drivers have been stopped while speeding excessively on Perth County roads lately.

On August 28 2020, just after 5:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Main Street East, in Listowel, Municipality of North Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 155km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Shupinder SINGH, 26, of Valley East, has been charged with:

On August 29 2020, just before 8:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Line 29, in the Township of Perth East, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 128km/h in a 70km/h limit zone.

As a result, Harpreet ARORA, 27, of Waterloo, has been charged with:

On August 30 2020, just after 9:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Line 20, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 154km/h in an 80km/h limit zone in the Municipality of West Perth.

As a result, Sila DANYA, 27, of London, has been charged with:

On September 01 2020, just after 12:00 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Line 26, in the Township of Perth East, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 157km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Filmon OGBE, 18, of Toronto, has been charged with:

On September 04 2020, just after 2:00 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Perth Road 131, in the Township of Perth East, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 114km/h in a 60km/h limit zone.

As a result, Mark MATHESON, 47, of Zorra Township, has been charged with:

On September 06 2020, just before 8:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Line 34 in the Township of Perth East, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 150km/h in an 80km/h limit zone.

As a result, Jessica LAW-REITZEL, 24, of Stratford, has been charged with:

Race motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

In every incident, a seven day driving suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused parties are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Listowel Methamphetamine Bust – BRAMBELL, DUNCAN, ADAIR-SIMPSON & THOMAS

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – A traffic stop resulted in drug charges for four people in the Municipality of North Perth.

Just after 4:00 p.m. on August 22 2020, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop on Campbell Street East, Listowel for a stop sign violation. The person operating the vehicle was found to be a suspended driver. The driver and occupants were also in possession of a quantity of Methamphetamine, with estimated value of approximately $1000.

As a result, Jordan BRAMBELL, 33, of Waterloo, has been charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

Tracey-Lynn DUNCAN, 35, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

Stolen Pickup Truck Rolled – Evan HANEY Facing Numerous Charges

(HURON EAST, ON) – A Kitchener resident remains in custody following an arrest made by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) yesterday morning (09Sept) north of Seaforth.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Huron OPP members responded to a report of a roll-over crash involving a pickup truck on North Line. A witness reported the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled. The driver exited the vehicle and then fled the scene on foot. Officers including the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a canine unit responded to the scene and began searching for the driver. While searching for the suspect officers learned the 2020 model pickup truck had been stolen from Wellington County and was connected to a break and enter from Wellington.

A search ensued for the suspect and he was located about 15 minutes later at a farm on Summerhill Road. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Further investigation revealed the accused to be in possession of stolen credit cards and identification linked to property crimes in Perth County, Wellington County and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Evan HANEY, 23 years of age from Kitchener has been charged with:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Possession of Break-in Instruments

Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest

Possession of Stolen Credit Card (2) counts

Possession of Stolen Identity Document (3) counts

He is also facing a number of Highway Traffic Act offences.

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for today at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Suspended Drunk Driver Tasered – Michael BARRETT

(MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Wednesday September 9, 2020 at 01:46 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a fail to remain collision in the westbound lanes of HWY 401 at Veterans Memorial Parkway. A lone male suspect was said to have fled the scene on foot from the collision when he was made aware that police had been contacted. Police soon learned that the damaged Mercedes Benz motor vehicle had been reported stolen to the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) during an armed robbery incident that occurred on September 8, 2020 at the Outlet Collection Mall located in Niagara on the Lake. Police also learned that the male suspect may still be armed with a knife as a result of the on-going investigation.

Responding officers quickly located the male suspect running down the eastbound shoulder of HWY 401. Officers quickly engaged the suspect at the roadside when he fled leading responding officers through all six lanes of traffic on HWY 401 on foot. The suspect was observed dropping items from his person as he fled and he failed to follow any directions or commands of the responding officers. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Upon the arrest of the accused, police soon learned that the suspect’s ability to operate a motor vehicle at the time of the collision may have been impaired by drugs and or alcohol.

As a result of an investigation police have charged Michael BARRETT -age 28- of London, ON with:

Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada as per section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

Dangerous operation as per section 320.13(1) CC.

Failure to stop after accident as per section 320.16(1) CC.

Resist Peace Officer as per 129(a) CC.

Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code as per section 320.18(1)(a) CC.

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs as per section 320.14(1)(a) CC.

Fail to Comply with Probation Order as per section 733.1(1) CC.

Driving while under suspension as per section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused has been remanded into police custody and will be appearing in an Ontario Court of Justice at a future date to speak to the charges. The Middlesex OPP are currently assisting the NRPS with their on-going investigation where the accused has been arrested and charged by the NRPS with eight offences under the Criminal Code of Canada. This is in direct relation to the Armed Robbery incident reported on September 8, 2020.

Matthew HAKKERS – Drunk Driving

(GODERICH, ON) – A combination of technology and some good old fashion police work has led to driving related charges against a Goderich resident.

09Sept at approximately 11:13 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was operating a police vehicle equipped with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system on Blake Street East when he was alerted to a possible suspended driver.

The ALPR system is a sophisticated licence plate scanning tool that uses Infra-Red illumination which captures an image of both the front and back of a vehicle. The system is capable of scanning thousands of licence plates per hour, checking them in real time against the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) database.

The system can quickly identify stolen plates, expired plates, plates that are associated to suspended and unlicenced drivers, wanted persons and those connected to Amber Alerts.

Upon stopping the vehicle the investigating officer confirmed the driver was indeed suspended. Additionally, while speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail.

He was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath testing. The tests were analyzed by a qualified intoxilizer technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.

Matthew HAKKERS, 32 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Drive While Under Suspension and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on November 23, 2020.
