Joseph WIRTZ Was Arrested

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – An impaired driver was taken off the road thanks to a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen. 

On May 25, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing a possible impaired driver in the Town of Terrace Bay.  

Officers located the vehicle on Highway 17 and conducted an investigation. The roadside use of the Alcohol Screening Device (ASD) resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to the Schreiber Detachment for further testing with a Breath Technician. 

Joseph WIRTZ 32-years-old, from Terrace Bay has been charged under the Criminal Code;

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, Section 320.14(1)(a)CC   
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), Section 320.14(1)(b)CC

The accused was released by the Schreiber OPP and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Schreiber Court to speak to the charges.

The OPP relies on the public to report crime. Impaired driving is a serious crime that should be treated no differently. No amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life.

Cocaine Bust – Derek JACQUES

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – One Individual is facing charges after a search warrant was executed at a residence in Terrace Bay, Ontario. 

On March 11, 2025, members of the Nipigon Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), K9 Unit and members of the Schrieber OPP detachment executed a search warrant at a residence on Kenogami Road in Terrace Bay.

The investigation has resulted in the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and other items associated with drug trafficking.

Derek JACQUES, 33-years-old of Terrace Bay, Ontario has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

The accused was held for a bail hearing and has been remanded into custody.

Drug Bust

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – Members of the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges following a report of a suspicious person.

At approximately 8:30 pm on October 24, 2024 police responded to a call for assistance at a residence on Kenogami Road. A female in distress entered the residence then abruptly left with four individuals in a vehicle.

Police located the suspect vehicle in Terrace Bay and arrested three people, two with outstanding warrants. Upon search of the motor vehicle, police located suspected cocaine (approximately 30 grams), crack cocaine (approximately 9 grams) and speed tablets.

Following the investigation, Leona JACKO 25 years old, from Marathon has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – amphetamine

Jason MOSES, 39 years old, of Pays Plat First Nation and Sheldon GULLIFORD, 39 years old of Marathon were both arrested on outstanding warrants.

Two accused were released and one held for bail.

Donald BEDARD – Drunk Driving

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A 43-year-old from Terrace Bay is facing impaired charges resulting from a vehicle check.

On October 20, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified by a Conservation Officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of a subject being detained, on Mill Road, near Terrace Bay.

As a result of the investigation, Donald BEDARD 43-years-old, of Terrace Bay has been criminally charged with:

• Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The Accused received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Schreiber.

Susan Button Was Arrested

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A call for service has resulted in one individual facing multiple charges including impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a call for service regarding a possible impaired driver in the Town of Terrace Bay.

Officers patrolled and observed the vehicle on Terrace Heights Drive in Terrace Bay. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for impaired driving.

The driver was brought back to the Schreiber OPP Detachment for further testing.

Susan Button, 32-years-old of Terrace Bay has been charged with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

·      Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused is now facing a 90-Day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-Day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Schreiber on a later date.

Andrew Hepburn Was Arrested – Details Released

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A traffic complaint has resulted in one individual facing multiple charges including both impaired and stunt driving.

On April 2, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver travelling along Highway 17 near Terrace Bay.

Officers observed the vehicle to be travelling at 146 Kilometers per hour in a posted 90 Kilometers per hour zone. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver failed a roadside test and was subsequently placed under arrest for impaired driving. The driver was also found to be a suspended driver.

The driver was brought back to the Schreiber OPP Detachment for further testing.

Andrew Hepburn, 27-years-old of Elliot Lake has been charged with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·        Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt

·        Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is now facing a 90-Day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-Day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on a later date.
